And then we'd have times when we get no main story quest at all (because epic shit won't be happening at every level, d'uh) and have to look for the possible continuation constantly. Even better if you don't care about doing the sidequests, so there is nothing to guide you to the next main story quest giver's location. Of course they can let you flag the quest but not let you progress in it before getting to level X, still makes it possible to forget tho.

Who is even "defending" the filler being anything more than filler? This is about quest icons now, serious business, dead game etc.

The filler quests are terrible and serve zero purpose to further the storyline. They subtract quality from the rest of the main story as a whole by existing. You cannot sit here and defend otherwise and if you attempt to do so you are so far gone that there is nothing more to be said.

I rephrased you stating the quest icon for these quests is wrong, and that this could be fixed if the icon texture were different. That's exactly what you said. All I did was make it obvious just how moronic you sounded there. Way to keep it up.

Except that's not what I said, I said the writing for those quests was so bad they could very well have not even existed and it wouldn't have made a difference. Then Siat went full retard saying BUT WE NEED A WAY TO GET EXPZ, and I gave him a scenario that would have accomplished the same thing without shitting up the quality of the main storyline.

Just because you misunderstood the situation and cherry picked one thing that I said out of an entire series of posts doesn't give you a leg to stand on brah.

By all means though, keep on spouting moronic shit in an attempt to sound intelligent.

Please explain? He is literally saying that if these filler main story quests were random side quests that it would somehow be different. Does anyone have reading comprehension or critical thinking skills?

Now that the game isn't struggling, I hope SE toughens up a bit and this game doesn't end up being pushed in the direction of placating a lowest common denominator.

Why wouldn't there be "filler" Side quests are always going to be filler shit, at least a lot of the dialogue is interesting if you read it, some of it is garbage. I have NEVER had an issue of not having a story quest, and i've always been 2-3 lvls over the story quest at all times...soooo not sure what people are doing wrong. Granted I do each dungeon about 3-4 times to help people out/get gear/break up questing but I dont know. Are people just not using rest exp? Not doing FATEs when they are in a zone and see them pop up? Not doing any dungeons other then story dungeons? Not doing hunting logs?

And like others have said, story quests in FFXI and side quests in FFXI were all bland as fuck for awhile. And there were far fewer of them. So you have to expect to have some sort of filler quests for the story in 14, otherwise you'll have people bitching about the story quest only happens every 5-10 levels and there's nothing in between! It's free exp, and they arnt THAT bad either. Yeah you dont sit on the edge of your seat, but I dont mind reading them either to understand what's going on.

Not sure. I was having a little trouble with the cannons on the 2nd boss in vigil last night, usually can get it off before the aoe thing, kept getting interrupted, taking 2 or 3 tries. Could have just been lag or something though.

I don't mind the filler quests, I just don't like that they're tied to the msq chain, but its nothing gamebreaking, just a minor annoyance to me. I'd end up doing them either way so I suppose it doesn't really matter that much.

Every time I did that fight, I would be on the cannon before it was targetable, mashing it until it allowed me to interact, and he still got an attack off 90% of the time. I had always assumed you would always eat at least 1 AoE, but every once in a while I could get him before he attacked.

If I mash on the cannon I get it off before he fires his first shot. But the fucking boss always puts a tornado on a cannon so we usually eat at least one shot when that happens. Last time he put two tornados around the cannon that were hitting me in intervals so I had to reposition before I could fire and we took like 3 shots.

Something i found yesterday while cleaning up the kitchen, you wont get auto kicked if you're in a cutscene for what it's worth. You get the message /logout command was not correct or something. I don't know why'd you go to all the trouble of getting in a cutscene to not get kicked, but there it is.
