I've heard throwing around "are you playing on ps3?" is some kinda diss, but realistically is anyone playing on ps3 and playing competently? This game seems more fast-paced than 1.0 and XI and it makes me wonder what playing on a controller is like? I'm pretty sure a paladin I partied with last night in Stone Vigil was playing on PS3 because he kept going from walking to running, like he wasnt pressing the analog stick all the way at first, just an assumption on my part I never asked him. The pulls were SO slow and he was not able to AoE tank trash pulls at all like his reactions were hindered.
Like I said, all assumption, since I didnt know for sure he was playing on PS3 and I don't know anyone playing on PS3. If playing on the PS3 makes it more difficult to play I'm not really alright with cross platform play.
If you're FATE grinding you can skip all the forced tutorials and burn to 50.
That's the problem. FATEs are too good and leveling on a second or third job looks like a nightmare without story mode quests.
Either:
-Quests should be reset when you hit 50.
-Hests/dungeon/leve EXP buffed significantly.
-Make EXPing in a full party worth it.
I wouldn't mind getting to know some people on my server beating on some trash mobs in the overworld for an hour or two. It's bonding with people that could become FC mates, friends or raidbuddies. We could even run to close FATEs from time to time between EXP to break up the monotony. It'd be nice if the FATEs were you know... something approaching a challenge. XIVs FATEs make GW2s overworld events look like hard. That's not a good thing.
I play with a controller on PC. If you know what you're doing, it can be just as fluid as keyboard/mouse. I might even say more fluid, depending on how you have movement set up and where you put your hands on your keyboard and whatnot. I can run around dodging AoEs and shit all day and never miss a beat. Sounds like your tank was just a baddie.
1: i hate that too
2: that's just the style of armor. The helmet is literally attached to the breastplate, which is why you can't equip a separate helmet. whenever you hear people at renaissance festivals and that sort of thing talking about "Heavy Plate" that's what they're referring to. It was also used for Jousting, with special helmets and gorgets, so that a glancing blow to the head wouldn't snap your neck.
I've done 6 successful ifrit runs now. Every single time there's a random drg who always gets hit by the charges. And they almost always will eventually say they're lagging. It's gotten to the point where it's hilarious. And then there are the ones who keep stun in their rotation. We leave those ones dead.
I played on Gamepad, but on PS3 there's framerate and loading issues. PS3 players can barely participate in large scale FATEs (It's like Odin/Behemoth except everywhere), and their targetting system is (still) shitty. Far as gameplay performance goes, the controls are fine.
Did a marathon farming run last night to support a certain crafting stretch. About an hour in, pulled out my choco to help the kills a bit and get him some xp. Drops go to shit. Drop events were cut by half, and I never saw a double/triple drop while the bird was out. Put him away after 20 minutes, drops go back to 'normal' (~70% drop events, ~33% of those being doubles or triples).
Pretty certain SE's party code is giving drops to my choco since he's a member of my party.
Yea after farming 30+ Ifrits for 3 shell mates weapons, there were so so many times when the tanks would complain about lag or stun resists and the chat would go into a 5 min back and forth about who is using stuns, who isn't, people who don't even have stuns on their bars. Also it's always a DRG that constantly dead! hah
You can buy a usb keyboard and mouse for PS3 if you want. People think you have to play with a controller when you really don't. The only real issue I have playing is loading/rendering speed which became an issue for me when people caught on to using FATES for leveling. However, if you get a FATE party, you'll be fine.
Another issue I have that I don't know is strictly PS3 or not is if the server is stuttering bad during some bosses, your client will fail to continue updating mob/PC positions making it impossible to interact with said mob/PCs which is a huuuuuuge problem that needs to be addressed ASAP. This happened in Phase 3 as well. The only way to allieviate it is by logging out and logging back in which wasn't really an option the first 2 weeks of release, if the PC dies and raises, or what I'm guessing if they warp to the beginning of the map which is unrealistic. If it happens to a boss you're fighting and you're a DD, you're fucked.
Also server lag is a real issue. I dunno why people keep laughing it off especially when there's videos showcasing it.
Just that sometimes it can be overwhelming with which direction I want to go in. Levegrind, solo grind, quest grind.. FATE camping(I only do certain FATES).
Effects in this game make me sad. Everything about abilities in this game are disappointingly bland unless an enemies using it... Weaponskills and spells in FFXI Pre-RoTZ Were better designed and looked nicer, maybe not pixel for pixel but they had more ... idk, feel? Pizazz?
Just feels like all the spells and abilities in XIV are Blandified because they're intended to be spammed non-stop so the effects are drastically limited to reduce Lag, and Skills themselves shortened so they fit in the 2.5 second Universal cooldown window, leaving little breathing room for cooler/longer lasting effects. Which, makes perfect sense but It feels boring seeing weaponskills essentially being a normal attack with maybe a lens flare thrown in.
Its a minor complaint, Just one thats kinda irked me a little, all this graphical power and new gen MMO and effects feel like they were taken off the bargain bin from discount MMO outlet.
