Why would any one just queue up for this when 1. This thread is filled to the brim with reports of how terrible it is in general and especially terrible for dps. 2. Everyone isn't starting day 1 with an LS/FC full of people interested in pushing through content. These shouts are one of the only chances this game has of making any kind of server community. Why don't you just turn off shouts if shouts make you feel like moaning?

Had to heal a PLD called Maxx Power last night. He brought his own unique tactic to tonberry king, which failed miserably twice.
His tactic? Kite EVERYTHING. I swear I could hear the benny hill theme tune going in the background while this shitfuck ran in circles.
After being overwhelmed by tonberry army, who does he blame? yeah. /pcmd leave my sleep is more valuable
I've done that fight that way multiple times. It's hilarious and my favorite way to do the fight. Was he kiting shitily and getting hit or were the tonberries aggroing a pet or something?

Kiting is a viable strategy. The tank needs to build hate, maybe kill the first two sets of adds first. Then you can start slowly kiting. The trick is for the dps to watch their hate and for the tank to get in combos when every there is an opening. I actually think it is easier than counting stacks.
Probably a mixture of both. We had a SMN and DRG, both of which were new.
Both of the other times I came here we had a DD kill them off slowly. One shot it both times, what's the problem with that?

If the SMN didn't put away the pet that was the reason it wasn't working. As to why this method over the normal one? As a ranged attacker it felt faster since I didn't have to bother with adds and just focused the boss the entire time. Besides that, I find it looks absolutely hilarious and that alone is enough for me.
But wouldn't the DRG suffer DPS loss from having to chase the king around and suffer the whole latency/failed abilities crap?
How is that much different from having the SMN kill off tonberries while letting the DRG whack away at the king.
It's probably a better tactic reserved for friends and 2 ranged DD setups.
With a party setup of smn+drg you're probably better off doing it the normal way, yeah. Being in range isn't really a problem though: It should be very slow kiting. Positional based stuff may take a hit though.
Players/tanks who think that kiting helps on everything. Granted it has some use at some times, but the VAST majority of the time you are just getting hit normally (check your log) while having the added bonus of being annoying.
Also this comment applies to every other MMO ever.

That's how I've always killed it, the issue was your DPS, not the Tank. It's suppose to die before the adds overwhelm you.
For that fight specially you kite it so the DPS can ignore adds and just full nuke the boss to speed things up a bit, rather than avoiding damage.Originally Posted by Raineer

His response was "I have to run in half circles to dodge his shit" after a facepalm I just said you can side step out of the breath, he continued to argue with me until we wiped because my DPS was horrible, I couldn't do any damage or keep heavy thrust up cause he couldn't grasp that I need to hit it, to kill it. The fight turned into some benny hill shit it went on so long and I was running around trying to DPS, I even got to LB twice. Next pull he side steps from breath and it dies before a single LB -_-
Isn't there an anti-kiting mechanism for king tonberry, that scourge of nym stuff that hits you for like 200 and makes you slow?
Not really sure how kiting works well, if things eventually catchup to you considering you can't shield block things hitting your back/side, and I don't think you can parry either from your back/side.
Well I was farming WP the week after launch and have not been back since, I guess they've made some changes to prevent that method, cause it worked fine. Tank just ran circles around the room whilst DPS burned it down.
