I don't think they're too easy or hard to obtain considering they're pretty much mandatory for solid clearing of Coil. The issue is that people are looking at relics through the same lense of XI; that they are these all-encompassing legendary items of unfathomable power. They're not. They're essentially AF weapons, and AF isn't some be-all end-all gear set in this game either.

If people are expecting them to unlock secret WSes and deal innate triple damage and augment abilities and take half a year or longer to obtain, then yes, they're going to think they're too easy. If you consider them just another gear tier above primal weapons en-route to clearing the next big dungeon, then no, they're not too easy to obtain, especially as you have to clear the previous hardest content to obtain them.

I don't particularly mind this. I used to think having a Relic was something special, but now I just see it as a baseline to get into Coil, that's it. The problem is since it's so easy to get a Relic, the primal drop system doesn't mean a damn thing. They might as well shouldn't have made the weapons in the first place. They're not even comparable to a Relic.

Ifrit's and Garuda's weapons at least help out in the next primal fight after getting them, but Titan's drops are pretty much entirely pointless unless you get one for a future job you're going to take through the relic quest line for more damage/healing. However, the time spent actually getting lucky with getting the drop could have probably already got you done with the relic quest.

They were made out to be legendary weapons in 1.0 though and at one point it was even said the difficulty in obtaining them would be increased as more people than expected obtained them in 1.0. They seem to have backtracked on this though. That could be where some of the conflict in opinions come from.

They backtracked on a lot of things to make money. This does not surprise me.

@Church: I can't really disagree, but I feel like they changed relic from 1.0. to ARR from a Orange, Legendary weapon that requires tons of time, investment and teamwork, into somewhat of a quest-chained Purple weapon, if we use WoW terms. Hell, the icon color is even Purple in ARR, basically signifying that, while the weapon is strong, its not the be-all-end-all, or intended to be as such. If I compare a purple in this game to a purple in WoW, it pretty much adds up to something akin to Shadowmourne in WotLK, which was basically useless come the middle of Cata.

This isn't some defense of SE, but I can see how Yoshi would want to make the carrot at the end of the stick a bit longer and the string a bit shorter in order to ensure a nice few steady early months of subs as even casual players feel that they have a shot at relics. Come 2-3 months from now, they better have something a bit more fleshed-out in place to keep everyone here, but I understand the business side at least.

I don't know if buffing primal weapons is the solution, though, because you're -still- going to have people complaining. They'll complain that the jump between relic, a PURPLE (whoa~!!) and a dumb old blue primal weapon is too small. Buff the relic in response to buffing the primal weapon and then coil becomes too easy in SE's eyes, and things screw up again.

It didn't take time in 1.0, Hamlet (potentially) took time. After you did Hamlet, your Relic was basically 3 days away. 1 day AV/CC/Darkhold/Behests/Escort, 1 day SB, 1 day Garuda/Ifrit.

The difference between FFXI->1.0 is about the difference between 1.0->2.0.

I had clicked on it a number of times, and successfully got the "interacting" cast bar, just that after the bar filled, nothing happened. After 4 or 5 tries of that, I gave up. Will try it again more tonight.

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but the issue is if multiple people clear the snow, multiple chests will be created in the same spot. If you try to interact with a box that it isn't yours nothing will happen, but if you can manage to select your box, the interaction will complete successfully. Definitely a bug, but there is a work around at least.

Good to know they're using the same no-investigation RMT ban methods as in XI. It's actually really scary if you care about your account...until you realize it would take a week to get back to where you are, or you could wait until before 2.1 when people are selling relic accounts for 10$ and just start over then.

For primal weapons you have a 1 in 9 chance of the weapon you want dropping. Then you have to win the lot if there are others in the party on the same job.

Titan primal weapon is even worse because pretty much no one doing Titan will need that weapon on their main job because they're about to replace it with a relic, but no doubt these people will still need on it just because they can, then not even use it. Even if they're nice and pass the greed system has no way of prioritising so everyone will greed on it.

The 1.0 Garuda system seemed best, but change it slightly. Why not drop everyone a token when you beat a primal, then 10 tokens = a weapon? Surely you deserve a weapon after 10 kills.

If you can comfortably beat Titan (I know many can't) then getting a relic can be less time consuming than getting a primal weapon you want.

I don't know how many people actually do, but Primal weapons can be used on your class aswel, rather than only your job.
That's the only reason I can think of for people needing them when they are about to finish relic.

To you and me that may be true, but I don't think the general 1.0 population was banging out speed runs with any consistency. I myself pugged the entire relic chain in 1.0, and finding groups to actually complete certain things was far more time consuming then just popping into DF (for everything but Titan).

~10M on a non-legacy server. I imagine there's just some cutoff and if you're above that, you get suspended
