I'm not sure how "push X for a 81% chance about 3,000" times is the best fallicy to use when accusing someone of being a casual.

Anyone who gathers in this game past level 30 is no goddamn casual. That shit is torture, regardless of whether you look at other games in the field or allow ARR's example to stand on its own.

In a way, it's FFXIV's version of FFXI's chocobo digging. It's absolute torture, in theory it's worth it at the end.

The problem seems to be in the implementation, but I don't pretend to know how to fix it. I would never go back to 1.0 gathering, unless the xp-per-incident were 10x higher. Interactive is fine if you don't have to do it too too much.

I look at gathering this way, it's a means to an end. I've leveled all my crafts off what I've been able to chop from plants and dig from the ground. I DO like the fact that - say I need a certain ore or log - there is no ambiguity. I need to gather a specific thing and the game tells me exactly how to go get it.

The problem comes when people try to level it like everything else. I want it to be level 50 yesterday and anything that gets in my way makes me cry. When my DoH outlevels my DoL by a good margin, I go spam a level of leves to catch it up. I don't need level 50 gatherer today - if you do then you're going to feel the hurt.

Expecting to be able to easily max something with little effort and then getting annoyed when they find out it can't be done easily is exactly what would define a casual. It's nothing to do with the monotonousness of it. If you want it to go faster then spend some leves on it.

Furthermore fieldcraft leves were the only ones I felt they actually did right. You had to use a handful of leves if you wanted to breeze past a level or two. They didn't autolevel you and allow you to skip the core of the class like tradecraft leves do and they wasn't worthless in comparison like battle leves are.

Leveling it too easy in this game.

Yeah, the only accomplishment I feel is, "Thank god I don't have to do that shit again... (until cap increase)" when getting out of a node range. It'd be one thing if every item had numerous useful synths, but most are pretty much just filler garbage. So this doesn't help their sale rates while the few items that are in high demand still get over-farmed, anyway. The high profits some are simply claiming now is more akin to the new game rush and economic instability. Competition's gonna come be it a week from now or a month later. At the very least, unspoiled nodes do bottleneck select item production compared to the always on, but slightly randomized self-instanced points. If gathering profits, and by proxy crafting, needs some help, I'd put that more on SE making special gear for targeted/unique materia production. Then I guess hope housing/airship building is nice.

Will happily be casual fag if it means less MMO data entry-type work, though. Bwahaha, work in my games~

I'll never understand why they did this to gathering. I thought the V1 system was fine the way it was.

It had more depth than the current gathering system but it was still highly repetitive. I still think they should never have gotten rid of gathering fatigue, your loot was actually worth something then because the hardcores/RMTs couldn't sit gathering the same item 24/7.

And then they just rotated characters. That only hurts legit players, really.

This is me. I want to be strong in any game. Strong and skilled. Not hardcore. Hardcore is maxing every class because chevements and gamerscore and gamblers crowns. Hitting 50 miner to be versatile or to have access to rare, exotic and expensive mats... that's strength. With the reality of the game, though, there's no point in leveling miner outside of wanting the achievements. The mats are cheap and there's no skill involved in mining; you press button and receive bacon.

I don't mind being "casual" in that sense, if that's all that being hardcore constitutes. I play daily - I'm hardcore enough in time invested. Wanting to max everything for no tangible purpose other than to get points... heh, have fun with that.

Easy to level up or hard to level up doesn't matter. I want to be strong, and that involves learning the class and maximizing abilities and gear. Gathering has neither. Push X about a million times and collect your 50... eventually. You wanna berate someone who doesn't want to do that as a "casual", then go fucking ahead, Deadgye.

Its silly how pathetic the label of casual has fallen in modern times.

    Anyone got leveling block?

Seriously can't bring myself to do another mind numbing fate-fest.

    I just can't.

Also they need to implement WoW's "Teleport out and in" of dungeon function while waiting on DF to find your last members.

A random system is not fine. In 1.0 you could target a specific item if you knew where it was but it was still completely random and you could end up gathering something else. Now I check my recipes, move to my gathering logs, go out there and get exactly what I want. This new system is perfect, just give me more exp while doing it.
Honestly I don't want stupid minigames in my gathering, leave that stuff in the Gold Saucer and let me get these items quickly.

How about starting with being able to speak to anyone in the outside world while in a dungeon, then we'll move to the hard stuff.

There needs to be more retainer bells around.

At the very least 2 in the market areas, there's even empty spaces in most of them where it looks like there should be another bell.

Wouldn't mind it being more mini-gamey if the rewards scaled up. Like if it took us a minute to clear a node, give us sixteen logs instead of four. Little less tedium in the running circles department, at least. But since I don't see them overhauling what we have now, I'd just rather see the GP costs on various abilities adjusted so maybe we could use them more often. Right now they seem solely balanced around unspoiled nodes, which feels pretty dumb.

Will also second more retainer bells. Or perhaps the ability to buy from the boards in your inn room. Craft, too.

This goes without saying but since they introduced inn rooms they've always given the impression that they just don't want this to be doable.

    Why? Fuck knows, SE logic.

It's really dumb because there used to be like 2-3 retainer bells per city. Like Ul'dah had one at the inn (not in the room) and upstairs where the PLD guy is.

It's also really dumb because each city has their own little issue being a "hub".

Ul'dah: Moogle AND retainers are not really close to any aether.
Limsa: Retainers are at least near the aether plaza but mailmog is still a zone + sprint away at Aftcastle.
Grid: Moogle and retainer in same zone but it's still a bit of a short walk from either to an aether.

Yes, easy or hard to level up does matter. You don't get to dismiss things because you don't like them. Gathering isn't hard to level. The action is tedious, and apparently because of your supreme opinion that means it doesn't matter. You even mention gear as a requirement for your silly opinion and then go on to say gathering doesn't involve it, when it sure as hell does. You go and try to gather with shitty equipment and your success rate and HQ rate will be in the shitter causing you to never level up properly. Unless of course you were talking solely about gearing up your primary class, in which case, lol.

Since you're cherry picking definitions, why not pull up #5 and realize that's what people talk about with casual players. Because implying that even casual players have no intentions when booting up the game is fucking moronic. Like, maybe seriously not wanting to waste time doing something 1000x when 300x more than conveys the message of "difficulty" here. Or are we riding Tanaka's dick here with needless time sink being the epitome of game design? Shit's changing. Quit and GTFO if you're so offended.

My 2 cents about gathering/crafting hardcore-ness: I hate that the achievement Luminary tools are just normal tools with gold skins or whatever while the quested ones are the completely unique models. It should've been the other way around. Also makes me wonder wtf they're going to do with them when they raise the level cap. Logical thing to do would be to add another tier of achievement for level 50-60 or whatever and then give you some kind of mat to make Luminary+1. (Or just give you a new tool I guess)

Given that they're almost all the same race the obvious conclusion would be that Vianne is a random generator name for Elvaan Females, and that most of those people are probably RMT.

I was actually surprised they just didn't make one a main hand and the other an offhand. But ya, more than likely there will be an upgraded tier of the achievement one.

I'm still kind of annoyed Mor Dhona and Coerthas don't count towards gathering achievements, since they're not Thanalan/La Noscea/Shroud.

I ran across a DRG in full AF with Darklight DEX accessories today in Garuda HM. Just... wow.
