Regen ticks giving hate.
I honestly thought that almost all healers were retarded because half the time they would get hate right after I pull something and I'd have to reposition the pack and in general was just annoying.
It turns out that the ticks of Regen on me were giving them hate. What kind of ass-backwards mechanic is that? It doesn't even make sense.
The main problem there is cures and junk healing for the full value instead of 0 if full.
IIRC XI didn't do this shit now I'm an OF poster. (But then Regen didn't build hate in XI in the first place so lol)
Usually not enough to pull off a tank's opening move though. In things like WoW a tank can open with thunderclap or shockwave right after a charge, so there's no chance for a mob to fuck right off straight to a healer while the tank establishes threat.
The thing that makes it annoying is shit like my god damn fairy deciding that "obey" mode = spamming AoE regen on cooldown like a fucking asshole, so she gets gibbed the second a tank pulls while it's still up.
Depends on number of things/people
WHM put Regen on tank: what Raldo said
Eos put regen on 4man party: well she's gonna get bitchslapped a bit but she's a big girl
WHM put Medica2 on 8man party: you kind of deserve it
Idk how it works in most other MMOs but DoT/HoTs generating hate doesn't seem right to me.
It lessens their utility as alternatives to direct damage/healing and, simply put, them generating hate just doesn't really make "sense" in terms of enmity as a concept.
Granted it's a video game and as such it's gonna operate on arbitrary rules for the sake of balanced gameplay but the idea behind "hate" systems is that whoever is doing the most to get the mob's attention is going to get more hate on that mob, lobbing fireballs and smashing it in the face with a shield is going to garner attention and it's even reasonable to expect an enemy to notice the guy over in corner regularly healing the guy you're trying to kill.
But with DoTs it's like....the mob can see and track buffs and debuffs. If a group of idle mobs are engaged by a tank who has a regen up from before it's just not reasonable or logical to expect them to know intuitively that the guy in white over in the back must have cast it on him.
I think of DoT/HoTs as being about efficiency over immediacy and also as passive effects that add some extra insurance/damage without garnering attention.
Normally you don't pull hate at 100.1% of the tanks hate in MMO's, you pull hate at like 110%ish-130%ish. This allows the tank to provoke/taunt, and maintain hate. In XIV, if a tank provokes, and a regen tick immediately goes off, well fuck that was a waste.
^ Thankfully, the only time a tank should be opening with voke is for the extra range on a long pull, like in AK.
I think this is the crux of it. This is the mechanic which can make voke almost a waste, at least when you're dealing with retardo-dps whose only possible reaction to pulling hate is to keep shooting/nuking. The chances of my very next action generating more enmity than their very next action are small. Even a queued Halone at the end of a combo waits until the goddamn shing-shing-shung-shing-shao animation is completed to actually apply the enmity, by the time it's done the mob is across the room eating a bard.
for AK. rage!
I don't know why everyone does AK on a Monday and Tuesday. There's none of that reserving crap from about Thursday onwards. Though if the patch tomorrow is good there should be none early week either.
People doing it today because of the mytho reset from the main later.
Idk if there actually is one tbh, but people are assuming as much.
It didn't reset last time there was a maintenance so I don't think it will.
It did when the game was new in one of the first maintenances because the reset was bugged for some people.
The fact that this is a planned, universal (all data centers) and rather long maint is probably why people expect a reset I think.
Idk when the last time that happened was.
I normally avoid Mondays, but was slacking off about finishing philo grind for Curtana (it's football season!), so figured two birds with one stone in case there is a reset.
