BG really should have invested in more server space to handle the amount of people pissed off by SE.
It happens every time, they really should have anticipated it.
Kind of makes me wonder. They have data for this shit. Between server transfer applications from before P3, beta testers, and people who would be dumped on a server anyways due to not making a choice (actually do people count as "filling" the server even if they haven't re-created?)... how many more players did they plan for? Or NOT plan for as the case may be.
Did ARR hype really explode so hugely that they can't handle it? Did they have no expectations they would service many people beyond some beta testers and legacy players? Both?
Honestly I think their mistake was allowing new characters to be made on Legacy servers from the start. Yes I know people are still trying to get in with their friends, I've heard several cases of that from my FC. But I'd wager the community at large is trying to cram a large portion of the population into just those servers.
I heart my server very much but if I had to choose between staying behind and playing with my RL friends who are on the hype train, I'm leavin'.
Think the best choice would've been to co-habitate the 1.0 servers and not actually "merge" them permanently. "Hey guys, we know it sucks when there are only two people in Gridania, so we're gonna mash up your server with someone else's, and then when 2.0 launches, rip you guys back apart again so that more non-Legacy peasants can worship you at the same time, k?"
To create all of the new servers with silly legacy restrictions while leaving an unknown amount of active/soontobeactive accounts on legacy was a huge oversight on their part. They should have expanded the list of transferable locations and limited the amount of fresh start servers.
But it seems most of the stress is instance related. So i'm not even sure if that would help as it's just the na/eu datacenters
The number of servers to play is fine
Thye just need more Duty finder and login servers
This seems to be the case so far.. but it's sort of not.
While the performace of the world servers (lag, etc) isnt bad, there is still a queue to get in at times. Whats going to happen at official release? No one is going to be able to play.
But yes, they need MANY more instance servers though.
Cant wait for the next LFTPL IX? See if they have anything to say about this shit.
It ain't just legacy servers. There's a metric ton of people that qualify for legacy but chose to roll fresh. Our servers are no less packed than yours, and we have just as many friends that want to make characters but cannot due to the cramped space.
SE just dropped the ball. Again.
They need GW2's overflow servers for people that just want to FATE and craft, and a shit ton more instanced servers specifically for DF content, which, strangely enough, constitutes most of the actual "meat" of the game.
The queue is the least of their problems
Duty finder is full because NA/EU population is higher then JP and we only have 1 duty finder server
Login Server well this is to repair the random errors that seems to happen mostly when there is a big flux of people logging at same time
As for lag in the world servers (wait you guys got lag?)
Why would they? JP servers were fine.
Here's the funny part. Yoshi-P said the "fixes" to the MTL datacenter Duty Finder system would be incorporated into the JP servers.
Seeing as how our Duty Finder systems are still not working, I bet you can guess what I'm looking forward to.
world is currently full 1017
Now just get to move from 10102 to world full 1017 with a kick back to character select.
So without queues just get to spam log on attempts and pray?
Logged on, forgot to enable speakers so game had no sound.
Logged out, changed speaker settings, logged back on. Took a total of maybe 30 seconds.
Soon as I try again
wat
It can only get worse from here man.
Seems like a good solution. Too many people crushing the servers....just dont let them on. I'm sure that will work out well.
