This is kinda old but there was the mog house glich if I remember correctly where you could dupe items by unplugging you net or something and spamming the delivery box.

Admittedly, XIV has lead me to appreciate the qualities that XI had. XI was a giant mess, and despite playing that game for 7 years, I've openly stated I hated it. Now? Not so much.

Frankly, I see it as just being a dinosaur in a new generation. A super large majority of this game is not hard, and my static is at the point of wrecking T1-T4 within 1-2 days. But people on the OF see this as a difficult game and I've even heard from my FC that they were in a party that cheered when they beat Ifrit Hard Mode. I want to avoid making direct comparisons, but while XI wasn't terribly hard either, it made failure a large inconvenience, and I believe that's what drove people to become good at the game.

There's a lot of small flaws about XIV that piles up and drives me batshit. This game is just so inconvenient for no reason, but what floors me is the general playerbase's priorities. Selling Titan Runs is a bad thing? Really? Coil lockouts are good because it stops people from selling runs? Who gives a fuck about that? Why aren't we talking about how FATEs are terrible and everything else being instanced? How about effects of abilities being proc'd at the end of the animation instead of the start (and it still eats my fucking cooldown)? Animation stutters? Lack of Open World content? All of these are valuable topics to speak about but instead we have repeat topics about WAR being bad or asking for Odin gear to be buffed.

I'm starting to see more and more people in AF2/Relic +1/Allagan, etc.

Call me hipster or retarded or whatever, but I miss feeling special. Like when you finally completed CoP and got your super-special awesome ring that would make all the level 30 (and fuck, even some 75) jelly because they wouldn't get it before 2 years and a lot of hard fights.

Now I see someone in AF2 and think "meh, maybe I'll get it next week". So boring. :\

If cop was released for 14 today you would get non stop threads asking for every part of it to be nerfed.

People screamed for nerfs during the CoP era anyway.

Though from what I remember, there wasn't much demand to nerf bosses, just everything leading up to them.

To be fair level sync didn't exist back then, just the caps. So it made it annoying to gear for. Think that was the #1 complaint.

They did release level 28-29 Sets for multiple jobs back then, Eisen Set, Seer's, Noct gear... the Empty killer gear.

But for the 40/50 Caps it was harder, though the above sets weren't terrible for those. But it was harder to get them back in the day, so they were expensive.

Money wasn't the problem. It was the inventory space.

A little of both. Needing to maintain endgame gear along with 30,40,50,60 cap shit alongside all the other shit you needed for subjobs and alternate jobs got painful in a hurry.

The cost of failure on CoP runs was also pretty high alongside all the preptime farming weakeners.

    For some folks ya.

I wasn't heavily in endgame by CoP despite playing forever (I leveled slow), So inventory was a non-issue for me, it was almost entirely the price tag. For people who did Endgame before that point I can concur with you... But in that stage the inventory issues were the few (though if you read/frequented BG you'd think otherwise since BG was usually the high-end place early on)

Couldn't agree more. Btw if you sprint, then cast holy, you can run like 30 yards before the stun effect of holy goes off on the enemies you hit. L O L

They really need to get off their asses and make content that just isn't an endless gear grind to the next tier of gear so you can use it when they release the next tier of gear. We need random crap that's super grindy and enjoyable we can just do and bullshit with all day. Not being able to enter any dungeon or primal without being the 4/8 party set up is bullshit, I could 5 man titan at this point with my group, why can't I do that for fun? Why can't I try to duo dungeons for fun? Why can't I do anything for FUN? Why do I need to abide by all these arbitrary rules for everything in this game? I can only use X cross-class skills I can only enter this dungeon with the max amount of players, I can only do coil once a week. So many fucking restrictions and guidelines I'm forced to follow.

I thought this was a video game? I feel like a puppet of the devs at this point.

As I said though, they really need to get off their asses and release fun repeatable content we can all bullshit around in or have a place to use our gear or play our characters that isn't just gear grind after gear grind after gear grind. Let's add some time attack modes where we need to clear a dungeon in X amount of time and can compete against other players, let it reward minions and vanity items, maybe some gil.

Let's add a horde mode where mobs just keep coming and coming and coming and the longer you survive the higher your score and you can compete against other players as well as unlock vanity rewards for a higher score. #1 players on the server get some awesome mount or something, who knows. Let's add boss rush modes, bosses just keep coming and coming, same idea, score, compete against players, vanity items. Never ending bosses, how fun would that be? How fun would it be to fight chim and hydra at the SAME TIME or something equally insane?

How about adding level50 guildhests, which imo are super fun content leveling up, and giving them all objectives? Survive this round without anyone dying, make mobs cast doom and land slide you off cliff and titan bombs and Twister and garuda randomly appears. How about killing two 4 man bosses as an 8 man raid, but the objective is to kill them at the exact same time? How about some guildhest that's survive for 2 minutes without taking damage? Then what you need to avoid is all of the primals attacks and other boss attacks as well as random terrain blowing up and falling over. Basically have to dodge landslides, bombs, garuda aerial blast, ifrit plumes, ifrit charges, all this crap for 2 minutes to win. How about versions of the same bosses we've killed that completely ignores threat? How about random debuffs/buff guildhests that are different evetytime? Objective: Kill garuda, oh btw half your spells are disabled have fun! So many great ideas they could use, and again, this would give fun vanity items. Wouldn't even have to create maps, just use the same exact dungeon maps for the time attack modes, horde modes and guildhests can use the chim, primals, hydra, and guildhest arenas.

So PVP is 4v4 and 8v8 deathmatch arenas only? That's fine, not very interesting, but it's fine. How about PVP modes where both teams are fighting mobs horde mode style, and every mob you kill is sent to the other team? The objective is to completely overwhelm the opposing team with mobs, you can't actually fight them, just overwhelm. Sounds fun right? Maybe not as fun as killing someone, but completely unique and never done in a MMO before. How about PVP dungeons where you're competing with 2 other groups on opposite ends to the final boss? How fun would that be, fighting a boss and BAM the other group comes and fucks up your day? You have to fight not only bosses and their mechanics, but also other players while surviving this boss. How about a PVP mode where one team is the attackers and the other is the defenders, and you need to defend NPC's from the other team? You can heal the NPC's, buff them, taunting off them actually FORCES other players to attack you, etc. There would be multiple NPC's to defend scattered across the map and it'd be a 2 round match where teams rotate as defenders/attackers. The team to have their NPC's survive the longest wins.

We need to get off this Dungeon|Raid|Primal train and innovate some interesting content that's different and fun with lots of replayability and fun rewards at the end.

I think this makes a lot of people uncomfortable: 90% of the people here were against such things because OMGKINGS and people on the OF and Reddit are afraid of being seen as FFXI apologists to even broach such a subject. For literally years BG and communities like BG have railed against serious open world content, even if they didn't call it that.

So here we are, with a beautiful game lobby for like 5 dungeons/fights/whatever.

I mean, reading this whole page...people talking like "grind" and "feeling special" aren't completely taboo topics in an MMO? That wouldn't have seriously taken place here two years ago. But we are seeing how a promising MMO can turn into a joke when those things, in moderation, are missing from it. Can they save this? I dunno.

SE fixed the open world content years ago. Why people hate it so much I will not understand. POPed NMs with the random NM that has some cool low lvl stuff is not bad. The best gear in the game off a mob that pops once every 72hours to 5 or 3~10+ depending on luck of king is not. There is a line and the kings could not even see that line, Aby/forced NM/ NMs that pop every hour or so is not bad.

I still feel fates should give some low lvl gear when its a NM style mob.

XI had monsters like the Hakutaku, Pawberry and Bomb Queen for the longest time and being able to gather up the pop items was something that involved little competition and brought people together out in the overworld. My first 'endgame' experience in XI was traveling around the world with LSmates in order to build Ohat sets and that alone was a days long adventure in itself. I think people seem to be conflating the problem of kings with the concept of popped NMs on the whole. One was an exclusive way to obtain the best items in the game with cheating rampant and the other involves simply fighting X to get pop Y for drop Z.

To borrow a term from Tanaka: Balance. Everything doesn't need to be in the overworld and everything need not be instanced.

Also for a game that wants to cater to casuals so badly, where is the casual content? Where are the fun side-things to do that have nothing to do with grinding for gear? All you're presented with is grinding FATEs, doing endgame dungeons and leveling crafts. Needing to craft items or utilize land jobs in order to create overworld spawns is also a great way to get casuals into the endgame system without resorting to Sandworm shenanigans.

Almost seems futile to try and make the content more complex when the classes themselves are so primitive that they belong in the DAoC era. There's just no depth at all to this game's combat, the mechanics are so simple and one-dimensional that it frankly predates WoW. Coupled with the insanely long GCD, this game is just not mechanically advanced enough and no amount of additional content is really going to change that.

I used to think that too, then I looked at WOW MOP class rotations and noticed they were all easier than this games for a lot of classes. Monk is miles ahead of what rogue is in WOW now too, warlock somehow is less complex than summoner in this and Mage is less complex than BLM in this, even though BLM and SMN are incredibly face roll.

All I want is a reason to stay logged in after the myth cap and t1-5 are done. I really hope the PVP scene will be alive for a long time (wishful thinking); the last thing I want is 60+ minutes/endless PVP queues two weeks after 2.1 has been released.

Like I've said in other threads, it's artificially created difficulty. The GCD, server lag, and mob leashing mechanics are the predominant reason why the "hard" fights in this game are as difficult as they are.

This is also why a lot of top FCs quit the game. The guys on Gilgamesh that beat Turn 5 and quit were ridiculed for being pussies but I can completely see where they're coming from. They realized that the current state of the game is a complete dead end with zero sense of competition for the top level.

They've coded themselves into a corner where you can't actually create inventive and difficult content. It would be impossible to make a boss that's actually hard if the easy ones are made this ridiculous because of the aforementioned issues.

^ And its why I said they have until WoW's xpac launch to fix the Lag, GCD- no, you know what? Lets just call them Japanese issues, because they don't exist outside of Japanese companies. They have until the new Xpac to fix these Japanese issues or there's going to be a mass exodus back to WoW. I have no idea where the XI purists will go, and frankly, I don't care, but I honestly hope they fix these issues before next summer.

What really bothers me about the classes is the lack of theorycrafting involved. I've said this plenty of times before, but the lack of cross-class skills for each job really hurts, and most classes being completely useless after you get jobs is a really dumb oversight by the developers. Surprisingly enough, I feel all the theorycrafting is in crafting due to the large number of options you have.

And I do have to agree that for a game that tries to be accessible for everyone, there really isn't much "casual" content that can be done just for funzies. Crafting, Gathering, even doing the storyline are all associated to grinding. The Lightning FATEs have been the closest thing to casual content, but unfortunately they're FATEs.
