I actually wasn't lampshading that. I fucked up and still misspell certain FFXI words, even. Rather, I was razzing more at the assumption here is better just because it's not the OF and he's obviously posting here telling me how dumb I am so he must be better because of it. It's such a delicious sandwich of hospitality consisting of apkallu eggs and nerd anxiety.
Edit: And I blame Allagan for being close to Aht Urghan in my head. I'll never understand the Windhurst shit, though.
Reminds me of a recent WP I queued with my PLD friend. One of the other PUGs was like, "Was that you trolling the DF?!" to him.
This is the cancer of the current mmo playerbase. Everyone wants WoW (with all the expansions worth of content) or FFXI(with all 11 years of content, or even with RoZ expansion like US launch had) and don't understand that IT TAKES FUCKING TIME. I still think there should be more shit to do at end game in XIV then run 2 dungeons (1 of which is boring as fuck once you get all the gear for alts out of it) and a single raid that takes 0 time to blaze through for a chunk of the playerbase. That said, if you're blazing through to turn 5 and downing it, you are probably a minority and have to deal with it. Games cater to casuals nowadays, which makes it pretty boring if you can nolife it or have a background in mmos where you can burn up content just with playerskill.
Honestly though, take a break if you're bored as fuck with the game. Even though I paid for 90 days, i've started to take a break from it and play some single player games and waste hours of my life modding Skyrim.
This game released with less end game content than Rift or SWTOR. Every WOW expansion is a complete reset that makes all content not the current expansion 100% irrelevant, and releases with more end game content for that expansion than this game. The complaint is valid, the "this game isn't 10 years old!" defense isn't. None of these games first major content patch introduced backwards progression either - they added a new raid that was a tier above the current release raid(s). FFXI 1.0/pre-zilart was also as bad as FF14 1.0, anyone who brings that up is grasping at straws, honestly. Arrows stacked to fucking 12. This was also a game from over a decade ago.
I have friends who work 5 days a week and play maybe a 2-3 hours every few days per week. They ran out of content and things to do about a month ago. These are casual players, the people this game is designed for, and they're in full darklight, relic +1, and only log on to cap myth tomes. These are the type of casual players who cannot commit to coil because of their play times and working, so the game essentially ends at titan HM for them.
Telling people to take a break leads to people unsubbing, and only subbing for 1-2 months every content patch, which isn't healthy for a sub baesd games. They want you to stay subbed year round, not just when they release content patches. WOW has been suffering from this heavily lately, and it seems SE didn't learn from their mistakes.
If you want to compete in this heavily saturated MMO market, and not offer a single ounce of uniqueness to your game, copying every single system from other MMO's, then you need to be able to compete with the big boys. If you can't compete with them at their own game, then don't fucking copy them and give everyone a unique experience you can't get in another MMO.
This game fails at doing both things, competing with other MMO's, and being a unique game. It will be the downfall of the game at this rate.
I work 45h/week (9h/day x5) and due to busy RL (family and such) I cannot comit to Coil either, end game stoped at Titan for me & I just log in to cap myths as well. This week I did not even bother trying to log in to do that. Bored.
Somes players fail to understand that, even if the coil design allow a casual group to clear it, it doesn't mean that everyone can comit to find a good/patient group. Lucky me, I found a group with which I will go every Friday, its the best I can do & I feel lucky to be able to do such a comitment, even if its once a week.
So I second fojoop statement, as I am not the only one in this situation either.
WoTLK released with a rehashed version of an old raid and 2 raids with 1 boss in each of them with none to little trash. Other then phasing, and the death knight area, not much was new. Grinding faction rewards was about as enthralling as doing FATEs. Cata launched with a decent chunk of things to do at least, but then again it was only 5 lvls instead of the usual 10. MoP again had a gated end game and a new class/race, other then that most things were still just redone/retweaked versions of things already in the game.
I can't speak for SWTOR but my friend has told me that 99% of the development was put into the leveling experience and end game was just WoW with Star Wars stamp on it, and not much at all to write home about. As far as Rift, again I can't say. I can say TERA launched with jack shit to do at end game, even less then XIV. Aion was the same way (fuck I play too many Korean MMOs) and Lineage II...fuck Lineage II!
Should there have been more? Yeah, especially since they were reworking 1.0, which while I quit early on, I believe had a lot of the things we already have to do at end game in XIV. So I would have liked to see more (more primals, more end game dungeons then 2 story ones and 2 regular ones). I honestly think FATEs ruined a lot of the game as is right now, with how stupidly easy it is to level using them. If the game has not had FATEs, I know lvling alt classes would have been a bitch, but I feel the dungeons are fun enough to level in, but I can't say either way just yet till the exp is buffed and I can try lvling using only dungeons and see if it wears on my soul like FATEs.
The complaint is valid only to a certain degree. Yes more should be put in, but at the same time you need to reign in your expectations. Your friends who play 2-3 hours a week have more shit done then me apparently and I was playing 2-4hrs a day up till last week. You sound like you hate the game and probably should just drop it though. I'm dissatisfied with it, but ill keep playing while looking at ESO and the WoW expansion for other shit to do when this game stalls out between patches.
Content takes time, and while developing content, if your game hasn't launched, you're just eating up money and not making any. So they launch the game with as much content as they deemed fitting (not enough by a small margin in this case) and then get to cracking down on more content.
I'm with you there, I play a lot, almost lvled all combat jobs to 50, 5 relics, and I haven't seen coil at all. Just don't have the time to commit to it, and my FCs scheduling really prevents us from running it, no one is on with any consistency to make an 8 man group. I wish there was more to do, I don't want to grind out any more relics, I'm just about burnt out of fate grinding to finish bard, and I don't really care that much about crafting.
I understand it's going to take time for the game to flesh out, I'm willing to stick around and wait, hopefully it's not crushing disappointment.
Oh yea, forgot to add, I hate when the music stops in zones, been chopping trees for 30 mins in silence.
Hit mytho cap and now jack shit to do.
Sad thing is I'll probably have full Darklight for my BLM before I even have it unlocked with how this is going.
Its funny you say this considering how the biggest MMO company on the block is actively trying to speed up their expansion releases to directly buck this trend. You think Blizzard wants people to stay logged in and subbed constantly, but SE wants people to sub for two months out of every 6?
Sorry, Charlie. It doesn't work that way.
SE wants you subbed 360 days a year, but they aren't providing 360 days worth of content. They want you to remain subbed for each individual month, yet don't release incentives each month. And, of course, we have people like you content to holler to the moon about the rights and wrongs of what and how others (who spent just as much coin as you did on the product) should be spending their time.
Fucking brilliant, of course. SE needs more subs like yours. Subs who are content to pay in advance for 90 days each time, yet only ingest 15 days worth of content in total. Thank you for helping SE out. I, however, am not so generous.
Your post is essentially an apologist joke, half-bordering on White Knighting. I'll tell you what: I'll "rein in my expectations" when SE "reins in" its expectations of some $15 a month from my wallet, because that's exactly what Age of Conan, Star Wars and so many others were forced to do in order to survive, due to some of these exact issues.
... You have time to level all combat jobs to 50, and relic them all.... but you don't have time for coil? You guys do know this makes no sense at all right? You can almost always find someone shouting for Coil, so the timeframe doesn't mean shit. I've had enough time to level 2 jobs, but i'm able to do Coil through shouts. You are like the 3rd person to say something this dumb. If the game stops before Coil, and you are bitching about lack of content, just quit. The content you are given is not being put to use. I would go into the dumb shit things Fojoop has posted, but from the look of things, the last few posts are all coming from the same source.
^ I have full Dark Light Body parts WHM/SCH and somes iLv60 accesoories for BLM & WHM/SCH. Base classes are Lv15.
I thought about leveling them faster but you know what? Fuck the fates. :3
While this seems to be self contradictory, he could possibly have leveled half of that in 1.0.
Also, I took Archer 15 to BRD 50 in 2 days last time I was on hols.
I paid 90 days because I was impressed with what I saw at the start. If you think that a game can provide you content EVERY month you're living in a fantasy world(lul mmos). Hell some patches for WoW don't even occur every month for basic QoL fixes at times. Also they are stepping up their expansion release for sure, but there is still a pretty large gap inbetween the last patch and an expansion and there is NO reason to really even play the last patch other then for the hell of it, since leveling gear will probably be better then anything other then heroic mode shit.
That said am I going to pay for another 90 days all up front? Fuck no
I said it lacks a lot of shit for end game, but i'm willing to wait a little to see what it can make of it. No MMO has launched with enough shit for the playerbase to do constantly and not be bored at times. End game raids are only time consuming until you've completed them and then you just farm them like a part time job, the most time consuming part being trash that you need to clear. There are only so many people working on a content update at a given time. I think Blizzard MAYBE has put more bodies in chairs then previously were, but how long is it between major content patches still? And how many of those just include dailies?
This forum is a minority when it comes to player skill and content consumption I think, people here play MMOs a lot, and can blast through shit very easily. If Crystal Tower had come out with launch I feel it would have been a good amount of content, and I feel that 2.1 should have CT AND some more Coil wings as well. 2.1 and 2.2 will be the deciding factor if I keep paying for a sub, or wait a bit and then come back. $15 a month is not that much money if i'm hedging bets on the game getting better, but if I don't see that happening then i'm not going to bet for it.
This is indicative of the game's biggest problem. So there's like 9 jobs with roughly a dozen slots, right? That's over 100 BiS. That they're all concentrated in basically two encounters is beyond stupid. Of course, the majority of BiS should come from the hardest content, but for Christ's sake, would it kill them to have a third of that (the least important third, naturally) spread among the other instances? Right now, it comes from either AK (via tomes) or Coil. Did no one realize that THAT'S BORING? The injustice of the best BLM neckpiece coming from a coffer in WP or the best DRG boots coming from AK or even AV (for that matter, CM, Praetorium and the primals could drop gear- we don't NEED full sets from everyone instance) would be more than outweighed by the fact that groups of people would be doing different stuff.
This akin to living in a small town and going to the same two bars or restaurants every time you want to go out. The buildings are there, the kitchens are ready to go, why not put some fucking cooks in them and make some food? After like a year? Sure, then make that content simply a stepping stone. We don't need Byakko Haidate to be the BiS for 5 jobs for several presidential administrations, but we can have varied content offer the best in some way (hence a reason to go to them) for longer than a month.
I Agree to the fact that the game has given rise to alot of problems because of the lack of content, you get impatient people who do nothing but shout for AK/WP SR DL/+1 onry and think they're the greatest players in the world. Had we had PvP/CT released at launch like we should have there would be far fewer issues of "no content" and we'd undoubtedly be heading into 2.1 with Coil2 & CT2 wings being ready. A lot of the content seems to be rehashed ideas from 1.0 and fair play, those elements kind of need to be there to explain the what happened before, but do not class primal fights as endgame content.
Maybe its because i play GW2 and the frequency of updates in the game is amazing, new story arcs monthly and new content added almost every 2 weeks and this is from a sub free game. I dont get why such large companies as Blizz/SE get away with mediocre content updates every 3 months.
