Did a Roulette WP the other day. PLD asks if we want to do a SR. We say sure go ahead (its brd(me) blm pld whm setup - pretty appropriate from my experience). We pull all the way to beetles and tank dies bc healer ... did not heal. BLM? Single targeted. PLD keeps it cool and says we'll do regular. After first boss we try a big pull again. Tank stays alive but BLM is still single targeting. He mentions "I have never done a speedrun like this before."
I only have the patience to say "Then you've been doing regular runs" without raging.
Hahaha oh shit that's priceless.
Does it actually need that much gear to clear, of have we just gotten used to overgearing things?
I remember doing AK back on getting a fresh 50, in AF and a 55 weapon. It was an uphill climb, but ultimately doable, more or less. Haven't done Pharos much so it's hard to compare, but is it actually un-completable with similar stuff?
I did pharos in half broken gear for the second to last boss, and crappy replacements for broken gear on the final boss. Half broken gear on the healer and other dps for last boss as well.
I haven't done it more than once though, but I'm willing to wager that amazing gear isn't necessary.
After I ran it once and figured out the mechanics, it's definitely doable with the suggested ilvl, just that it obviously is more challenging and requires less screw ups on the player's part. The new dungeons are def a case of people getting used to overgearing shit + unknown content.
I enjoy watching gear fall to the ground in CT. Gear I -could- use but don't feel like blowing my 1 item a week lot on.
...SE, why do you do this...
Dude, did you run this with a hyur F PLD called Delicious Succubus (my alt)? Otherwise you have a creepy identical twin somewhere who had an identical run.
Mandatory random complaint: When I have been 90k'ed, and my character has been kicked out, it should be pretty obvious that the server should kick the ghosts proverbial behind when the same character tries to log in. Also, housing prices in the first place. Also, lag, so much lag, there are disadvantages to living at the "end of the line" here in Norway, despite being on 60/60 fiber.
Lag is still very frustrating, espcially on Titan EX and of course you can't say "sorry guys, that was lag" because noone cares. Also they "fixed" jump but that doesn't really seem to enough to risk using on Titan unless I am jumping directly to him after landslide. Twice I've tried to cancel/move mid jump and I just die where I would have been safe.
I join Garuda EX/Ultima party finders with the "farming party exp only" tags on them on my whm, wind up with cohealers or tanks that don't know the drill. Once we joined one with an undergeared Mnk as the leader, who was complaining about DPS on garuda as we were getting 2 mistral songs in the beginning (because the mnk and another dps both died to mistral song on each run). He started gearchecking people and was trying to insinuate my husband (blm in turn 4 pants) didn't know his rotation seeing as everyone, except the monk, was geared to the teeth. I'm sure its possible to be carried through turn 4, but seems like you're in over your head if you think that is a weak link :-/
I'm so tired of all the black mages I get stuck with in Crystal Tower. I can't get into a party where I am the ONLY Black Mage so I can GET SOMETHING. I've lot lost on the Crimson Vest 3 times now. I was once in a party with FOUR OF US. Why so many casters?!
My heart breaks every time...I just want to get the hell out of DL is that so bad?!?!
Try get some of your LS/FC to go in with you on DPS jobs. Any slot you can block out with a friend increases your odds. And of course if you can block out all the slots (so 3 DPS friends) then you're guaranteed the drop if it does drop. I know if a friend asked me to go X job for whatever event so that they got a certain drop, then I would.
Either that or rig party finder set-ups to not have any other BLM's in although that may be a little more frowned upon!
CT is annoying as fuck on a melee, half of your time is spent chasing mobs and the other half is trying in vain to maintain any kind of rotation.
You're constantly changing targets, chasing mobs down, dodging ground effects/AoEs/etc, getting in directional attacks is an exercise in futility on anything but bosses (which you spent 5s attacking then swap to adds that popped 20 feet away).
Granted everything in CT is faceroll tier and the only challenge is getting people to cooperate with each fight's gimmick, so there's hardly a DPS check involved, but it's still irritating.
It's not too bad. In some of the fights you can ignore the adds (let the ranged take care of them?) and keep on the main boss.
Feels worse for tanks where a couple of fights have OTs doing nothing for more than half the time.
Just do what all the other OTs do: Troll the group.
I've done 23 CT runs this week trying for Crimson Vest.
Whoa whoa, who said anything about taunting mobs. That tower could turn red at any moment. Go back to your tower.
Related question: Is there any harm in letting the tower get to 2 or 3 red sections, so long as you hit it before it blows up? I did a CT once where I was the only WAR, and I really wanted to just keep applying the WAR debuffs on Behemoth, but I kept having to run back to the damn tower.
