Decided to buck up and try a party finder group with my friend, this ended up being what one of the tanks had to offer. I'm not usually one to publicly shit on people, but Jesus Christ, how can you join a group with so little self awareness?

And here's the wonderful set of classes he has to choose from

A bonus, because I mentioned to the LS too:

Instancing looks very appealing on the face of it: groups of friends can play together without interference in relative tranquillity. What's not to love?

The thing is, this is not what virtual worlds are about. How can you have any impact on a world if you're only using it as a portal to a first-person shooter? How do you interact with people if they're battened down in an inaccessible pocket universe? Where's the sense of achievement, of making a difference, of being someone?

CT melee who think behe is too important and can't waste their time killing bombs, giants, or even moving the comets away.

On the other hand, it's way easier for ranged classes to hit moving targets (that have basically no HP) and if all the melee got off KB it would never die because the bombs never stop coming.

I'll be perfectly honest, once the Iron Giant is dead I just get back on King Behemoth. As a MNK, chasing down bombs constantly is supremely detrimental to my DPS, and unnecessary.

Yeah unless your entire alliance is full of melees, ranged jobs should be able to cover bombs. Melees should attack giants though, and obviously position comets. No excuse for that not to happen.

(though the tank could just move behemoth i guess, but fuck man we all know tanks are the most retarded people )

Dunno, seemed like a lot of windbagging to me. Shit sucks? Suggest improvements instead of just saying shit sucks.

To cherry pick the instancing comment, he generally ignores why instancing took root relative to older options. Sure, he could imply something of an achievement in surviving an MPK attempt within XI at an HNM, but these games also never really changed the world in result, either. To this day, I can't think of an MMO that's ever gone that far with the closest really just being a glorified capture the flag. He also outright ignores pseudo-instancing hybrids, or "pop" mechanics where things can still be happening in the open world, but not so much subject to spawn timers or luck. The ultimate goal of this is to replace waiting with playing, and with playing should come fun. If he took the time to argue that focusing on instanced content has led to unrewarding and often lacking open world content (hello Rift zone events), then I most certainly would've agreed. But he didn't and instead seems to be subscribing to one of the prejudices he outlined with respect to how much time a player should invest in a game overall. He sounds like he's trying to come from the old school, and with that a belief players should be looking at these games as years of investment. That just isn't going to work anymore due to competition and it isn't any fault of a newbie.

Perhaps I should look at it as a greater rant against instant gratification, which is a buzz word frequently misapplied when people talk MMOs and progression, but it really does come down to giving people the means to play now and have fun instead of paying to wait for that fun. Challenge their skill and not just their patience. It also needs to be accepted that not everyone plays MMOs to make friends, but incentives should certainly be there to get people to come together easily and not feel like they wasted their time in doing so. The concept of servers or worlds does need to die, though. Mechanically, I understand their presence, but socially, they do hinder the friend-making process. XIV is abysmal in this respect and is only better than XI here because of the limited DF and PF.

If the attempt is more to say he's sick of clones and is waiting for the next big thing, I fear that isn't going to happen in our current realm of tech. The foundations are there, and were there when shit was text-only. Graphics and sound gussy it up nice, sure. What makes a good game may be subjective, but it also takes more than being a good game to be a popular one. It needs to advertise, and not just on gaming sites. It needs to update and evolve more aggressively than this 3+ month approach that seems to be the standard. It needs to not be just another dungeon runner, but instead get crafting and questing better involved in endgame progression. Shit like perma-death will never be popular for one very simple reason: Lag. That was just another example of him trying to be all pro without cons there, but lag also isn't the only reason. Perhaps the more prevailing issue in the growth of MMOs is pandering to the hardcores. They're the ones generally carrying those prejudices of how things should or shouldn't be. Instead of focusing on that 10-15% of any game's base, I'd be curious to see what would happen if a dev focused on the 85-90%. If one's first thought is "EZ Mode Garbage, that's what!" then I'd say you're part of that prejudicial issue.

You know the article was written in 2004 right >_>? The post feels like you missed that... but you may no have, IDK.

Either way, I think that article had some valid points, while most of it (by his own admission) was soapboxy, it made a few points that actual did happen. Its a bit biased but what isn't.

Unlocked the 3rd tier of sylph dailies today. There's another FATE daily, and one of those "carry shit on foot but don't get hit" quests that goes from The Seedbed all the way down to the entrance to the sylphlands.

Shame on me for assuming something recent would be linked with a modern game.

Unfortunately, similar commentary springs up now, anyway.

Makes sense though in the situation that caused me to post this, half the alliance wiped because there were two rocks remaining that were right ontop of behe and somehow one could be LoS but the other one couldn't. (idk) The survivors were still going at it but after screams of "MOVE THE COMETS" from everyone, the melee still stood there and let more comets drop on behe.

As well as giants taking forever to go down since so many dps were dead.

I just can't help but think "MAH DEEPS" is running through their head without any situational awareness going on.

Shit happens on the magic pot one everytime I'm healing and our team goes "ghost" the other alliance groups ignores our adds, and I got like 3 fucking things on me and the pot just like wtf homies. Try to say not to ignore them and I get yelled at "WE ON THE BOSS WHEN WE GHOST". Alright then, I'll be over here dead.

In defense of the guys ignoring the bombs on DPS, if you guys are dodging stuff and not taking too much damage, your healers (more specifically WHMs) can do more than enough burst dmg to get the bombs down. This applies for both KB and the room before him.

And complaint: Having to choose between lazy IRL friends and actually getting coil done each week...lockouts are still fucktarded.

This is why dividing the pots between groups is retarded and everyone should be killing all the adds all the time while the ghost'd group kills Thanatos.

Speaking of which, the tanks who get ghost'd and don't provoke Thanatos off me make me want to kill myself.

The general gist of it. (cause I don't know how to make the image any larger)

I wanted him to invite someone in LS to tank Titan but my friend's iLVL of 76 was too low for him.
He claimed "decently geared people" which is fair enough, but he is decently geared and died to random stuff before heart consistently in the three tries we've had before this conversation.
So that's what I told him and left.

Of course having better gear helps, but it's useless if the better geared person is constantly dead anyway.
I'd rather have people who do their job accordingly with a lower iLVL.
