Sword Oath adds up, and depending on the fight (Titan EX for example) you can make some use of Riot Blade by using Stoneskin on your co-tank.
People really need to realize that Sword Oath is actually a significant bump to PLD's damage.
A Halone combo is the same potency as a Storm's Eye combo, Sword Oath is essentially a fulltime Maim buff with a potent DoT (in the form of the extra AAs).
There's no MT or OT in Ultima/Titan/Ifrit, when you're not currently tanking you can sit there with your dick in your hands not able to do anything out of fear of pulling hate or you can click a goddamn buff and make yourself useful.
I try to play the middle ground and switch to Sword while tossing shitty Stoneskins on the current target. I'm yet to see Titan EX though. Is a tank's DPS really going to speed a fight up that much, or are we just talking making the most of the things we have?
Ultima is apparently hard.
(can't seem to get into a group that can dodge lasers)
They ruined the sense of community, the party system, open world content and replaced with selfish solo-istic instanced assholes. That's a dick move. Then they ruined the controller. How many times must Se beat me. I won't be forgiving them for this for a long time.
I genuinely want FFXIV to be everything that it could have been. People say "things change", but when they change for the worse, you change them back.
damn, every time i think about this game i'm irritated.
I think you 2 are talking about different things. He means the bombs. Which is where all my groups die because people don't walk into them fast enough.
What our group usually does is have a melee be marked and all ranged dps focus on melee's target. That marked target was also the guide for bomb squad (until the final bombs).
Oh - that makes more sense. We've gotten to the point where one or two melee try to orient themselves so they only get knocked slightly to the side of the boss and sprint into one set while tank takes the set next to it (let's call it SE and SW) while the others run their asses to the NE and NW ones. Works really well as long as tank LB was up - hah.
On my first and only win (because I never felt the need to farm it), I just sac'd myself on the last set of balls as BRD because I was tired of the group hesitating and wiping for the 50th time. This being before tank LB3 became the norm (if it is now, idk).
Tempered Will, sit where an orb spawns. Pop LB, Sentinel (if only LB2 or MT at the time), and just run through 2 and take like no damage. So group ends up taking 2, and tank takes 2.
Could probably have OT take the 2 far ones and MT take the 2 close ones and still be fine. Good to do in pugs if you are going with a tank buddy to cover basically the only point of failure in the fight.
Yeah lmao it's so hilarious how scared people are of running into the bombs, and I don't know why because if you don't it's a full wipe, so funny seeing people chicken shit out though as irritating as it is.
The issue isn't really damage while off-tanking, it's doing said damage without pulling threat off the main tank. Riot Blade combo is an atrocious abuse of TP and extremely mediocre DPS, spamming Halone combos will pull hate off your main tank eventually, even in Sword Oath, and especially if you're frequently swapping tanks. PLD has no reasonable non-threat DPS combo, and no useful effects to apply while off-tanking.
Putting up Sword Oath is better than not putting up Sword Oath, but I would hardly qualify standing there auto-attacking until you need to switch back to Shield Oath and Provoke as useful.
You guys know about the bug with Sheild/Sword Oath right? Read on reddit that if you put sheild up first then switch to sword you keep the enimity bonus from sheild, which is hilarious and why you prob have issues pulling hate off the MT.
Even when that gets fixed (you can get around it by turning off Shield Oath first, then putting up Sword Oath) you'll still have issues when tank swapping or with WAR tanks in general. PLD's only legitimate combo generates too much threat for a WAR to be able to do anything other than spam Butcher's Block.
This is even worse when the tank LB3's on Tank Purge. Such a norm on Siren, that I've actually assigned me and the weakest DPS to run into certain bombs, just incase the party is dissapoint.
I've won this fight on WHM so many times weakened because all DPS are pussies, by default.
