Done it. Lots of crickets with the exception of a couple times I got groups that were awful. Anybody with half a brain sees a melee and goes "fuck dat shit", not that I blame them as Garuda ex is horribly designed against melee as well as ifrit by the sounds of it. Only reason I try with mnk is because it's my only geared 50 and if I could switch I would.
I'm guilty of trying to avoid melee in Garua Ex, with the exception of very few in my FC. Most can't dodge wicked wheels for anything.
EDIT: Melee in Ifrit is perfectly fine. My FC is ranged oriented already, everyone decided to deck their BRDs and BLMs out first but we've got no issues taking melee in.
Melee in Ifrit is better than Garuda, but I've still seen many ranged only groups because it makes everything so much easier.
And with a smn leveled now, when I did Ifrit I found my own life to be much easier as a ranged. That and I was able to sustain dps better because I didn't keep having all my combos interrupted with running and shit.
As if enough fights weren't already predisposed to ranged DPS the fact that we still have directional requirements just adds insult to injury.
Does anyone think they're a good idea? Do they add anything of value to the jobs?
At best they're an annoyance, at worst they're a limitation that can horrible knee-cap damage potential in a lot of fights.
Yea, I only have mnk leveled to 50 at the moment and do Garuda Ex fine as it, and never been told I can't come because of it.
Well, it's like I said: from my experience, very few can do it. I only trust like 3 people in my FC to go melee and know they won't get hit but that doesn't mean there aren't others
Even PF groups without melee are a crapshoot. Did a few runs with one the other day on my SMN where I was highest DPS before even adding my pet in.
Until earlier this week I generally went BLM to Garuda Ex and the occasional PUG farm I would join had the worst tanks, losing hate on adds, bad spiny switch, etc and it happened so often that I thought it was actually difficult. Now that I OT it I'm just dumbfounded how someone could fail this that hard
I haven't had the same problem I guess. I PF it regularly because getting my coil static to do anything but coil together is like pulling teeth. Pld is my most geared job, but I got tired of dealing with derpy off tanks and have run it exclusively on Drg since then. I have Brd reasonably geared, but it's not nearly as much fun as melee is for the fight.
I'd say keep at it, kick the bads and keep going with the rest. Once people get used to seeing your name in there and know you know your stuff, it makes it easier to get skilled recruits.
Fists of Earth + Foresight.
Go forth my son, and never wipe to this stupid ass fight again.
Complaint: 3 days trying to clear Ifrit EX on my alt. Couldn't get 8 people together to do it from FC or PF at all.
Say fuck it and solo queue DF on MNK and get instant queue pop.
WTF?
Edit: If you aren't dying to WW, just make your own PF like I did. Eventually you will get 8.
GC seals are such a fucking waste. I've been capped at 50,000 for two months now.
Been using mine on dark matter because I already have like 10 respecs, lolfurniture, and every penny saved gets closer to a lolhouse.
It's a constant reminder that the repair interface sucks though.
I feel stupid for not thinking of this earlier.
I can dodge WW fine for the most part. The exception being suparna if she takes too long to die and moves into her second WW rotation in tornadoes; I have no idea what that is, but if we get there it's a wipe anyway at that point. The other is if tanks can't time voke correctly to pull chirada over and I have to walk through the tornadoes then watching for Garuda's WW is a pain because focus target cast bar sucks (stupid focus target text covering it) and I don't know Garuda's WW rotation either.
When you go in during Tornadoes, just wait for Suparna to use a move (Slipstream/Fracture/etc.)... She does Wheel I believe 3 or 4 seconds after Slipstream but it might be Fracture, I'm not sure.
After you see the move, FoE, Shoulder Tackle in, cancel the recovery with Foresight, start DPSing. Foresight lasts 20 seconds so even if you're off, you should be fine. You should survive a wheel with anywhere from 280~1280 health depending on your gear/stats.
If you can't survive a wheel with this setup, you're simply too under geared for the fight or might need to consider using food.
That sounds good. I can dodge Suparnas WW in tornado easy but I'll do that for when I cross over to chirada/Garuda. Should solve a lot of the dps issues I have during that phase from waiting for WW since if it does hit me its only 200-300 more than my HP and I can just cross over immediately then.
Thanks for the tip.
