    There is no reason to have tanks or healers use static positions.

    Healer with searing stands to the left at all times, healer who is free stands in the middle so he doesn't need to dodge and can plant themselves for healing. DPS stand on ifrit's right leg and run eruptions along the edge of the right side of the arena, making it so the healer NEVER has the move for them. During nail phases 1 and 2, the first healer with searing goes left, the second searing goes right as people swing around the arena to clear nails on the left since they are going right > left. For the final nail phase it's the same thing but left x2 > right.

    Off tank stands on the left leg so that when OT eruption happens no one but them has to move.

    This way the healers are the ones doing the majority of the moving, and it insures no one walks into anyone on accident unless they're really not paying attention. It also frees up tank movement so that they can help on nails and healers are able to move with the group when they do not have searing for AoE heals.

    So pretty much the "one side" healer strat except DPS curve on the right side instead of the middle, gotcha. That's the same way I do my PUGS except I just make the searing healers focus Tanks and non searing healer focus raid. And eruptions still get run straight back because that seems to be the way everyone else does it, and i'd rather keep a feeling of repetition than make people do something different and fail, even though it's a very minor change

    Huh. Running eruptions straight back seems so much easier.

    This was just the strat we came up with after throwing ourselves at it blind for a few hours a day or two after 2.1 dropped, so me and my co-healer just devised this method to make it so dps could focus on dmg and never need to stop moving or worry about where they are in terms of hindering their dps.

    I don't see how moving along the right edge is any better than moving straight back. Normally the healers shift sides anyway if there are melee dps. If there aren't both healers can just stay on one edge and dps only ever run straight back. Seems much simpler to me.

    Tweaks:

    1) First ever searing wind healer goes right, other healer left. Subsequently, healer that gets hit by searing wind after plumes/racecars goes left, other healer right. Minimizes movement.
    2) OT and MT stand in a V with their backs to the rim and never move because DPS having to dodge OT's eruption during nails disrupts about as much DPS as OT contributes. In the final phase when it matters, tanks build up stacks too quickly for OT to have enough uptime on nails to count. Nails near tanks are fair game since melee have to be cautious around those for incinerates. If melee and chained, return to Ifrit and dps a nail nearby. If ranged and chained, business as usual--you can stand on Ifrit's flank, have minimal chain distance, and hit all the nails anyway. OT eruption becomes trivial.
    3) Run, don't sprint straight back on eruptions, hook a J turn if you hit the end. If healers are in the right spots they are never in eruption range. Running straight south reduces risk of someone getting trapped.
    4) All ranged bonus: If all ranged, stack on ifrit's rear during nail phases and never move for easy aoe cures.

    Already covered by First Searing Wind Right, Post-Plumes/Racecars Searing Wind Left. Healers sit still and DPS don't even have to pay attention, the searing winds will line up so that Ifrit will naturally use searing wind on the healer on the opposite side of the focused nail, except once in the last phase.

    I'm no expert on the fight, but trying to micro-manage a PUG is a recipe for failure. Non-standard strats, even if they are superior/easy, take practice to execute correctly. If you try to change it up from what people are used to, and you don't have several runs to fine-tune it, or voice comm to keep things in order, then you're not going to succeed in converting people to your strat before the group disbands.

    So far, I've done Healers (of which I am one) to the sides, and just pay attention to nail timing and make sure to stay out of the DPSs' way by swinging around South and switching with the other healer when necessary. With healers to the sides, it makes the most sense for DPS to just dodge eruptions to the south every time.

    One thing that pisses me off about tanks in this fight is when they fight Ifrit at an angle to the edge of the arena. When they do this, and I have Searing Wind, then I often myself out of range of the tank when they're facing him away from me, and can't move any closer because that would put Searing Wind in range of the DPS. They either need to keep him perpendicular to the edge, or stand under his chin. This edge-of-the-hit-box shit doesn't cut it.

    If you can't safely target the far tank while you have Sear your tanks are standing too far apart.

    That's my point. It's hard to type it out to bitch at them in the moement though, cause the damage can spike so hard if I'm not constantly on the lookout. I can't wait to do the fight with FC, with players whom I'm actually confident in.

    Running straight back on eruptions is retarded because:
    1) Ifrit is out of range so you lose dps
    2) If anyone is slow, they are dead. If anyone goes early, they kill everyone else. This is not an issue with a curve back to the right.

    Static positions for the entire fight is dumb as shit, but its the "easiest" method. Oh yea, and "only ranged' too, because pugs are bad. I'm completely with Uryuu and we do basically the same approach. This is also why I never touch pug Ifrit.

    This kind of princess attitude is just not something I feel like indulging in simply because I am a healer. It's similar to how a lot of healers will sit still and cry that the Bard needs to pick up rot from them while being up for silence and not fuck it up, and if they happen to miss one, "get gud nerd".

    Why introduce chaos when you could, with a little more effort, make things run smoother? I guess it's just a difference of play style, in that I am always looking to do what I can to make things go better/smoother, rather than being lazy and chastising someone else. Just sounds really stuck up and self-entitled.

    I must be misunderstanding what you mean by "a curve back to the right", because both of these issues still apply in my mind.

    Their way is different and not widely used, so it must be superior, right?

    Excuse my 3 minutes in paint:

    Red X = Ifrit
    Green = OT
    Purple = DPS and their "curve back to the right" to avoid eruptions along the edge of the arena
    Blue = Healer's positions

    It's a curve. You can make it tighter by not running all the way to the edge if you're behind and thus be able to dodge other player's eruptions and not die.

    The next eruption left by the inner-track player is now harder to dodge for the outer-track player, no? In fact does it not have a chance to totally cut off the path of every player who made it to the edge on time? I don't have a problem with the curve but this plus the fact that Ifrit is only out of range if you're standing fully across the ring hardly makes running straight south "retarded."

    How hard is it for players to see Eruption cast-timer and start running? That's all there is to it.

    Cast bar : Eruption
    Run backwards

    There's so much wiggle room it's ridiculous. This ain't unforgivable Earthen Furies.

    All that is, is something trying to make their way seem so much better. Running back is just as easy and so long as you drop to the right or left all ranged DPS should be just fine never running out or range. Normal DPS can just curve inwards and make a dash for him. Your side curve adds nothing, if it is what you are use to then cool, but dont say its better. Because you end up running the same distance.

    Also, you can run to the side all the same if you get a late jump its the same thing, with the same amount of room even. In fact, you claiming you can dodge is false. The center way gives you two ways to dodge, there is still room on both sides(even the mage with SW) iv done it many times on my bard when I get hit by one I jump off to the sides to dodge the rest.
