That I did know about, but I find it horrendously awkward and unnecessary with proper target filters.
When I finally beat Titan and Ifrit I got invited to a server LS for Primals - I have yet to complete a second weapon while playing with these people. It's horrid. At first I thought it was me until I stopped dying outright. A lot of these LS's are most likely people that eked by with a carry. Just find a static of 8-12 you can rely on, in my opinion. Shit's hard for me to find, though.
My ls/fc have around 10 or so people I trust. Still hard to get UA all on at the same time outside coil. We always have 4 ready to go and fill in the rest .
As for the other linkshells I know the people I trust and only go in with them. Its kinda easy as they happen to have the same last name as I do lol.
The burden of having to pay enough attention to the fight that you're standing in the correct spot to make sure you aren't hitting anyone else and that the people hitting it, specifically those with positional attacks, aren't screwed up by it turning. It's not a huge burden, but neither is tanking it in a normal formation. It has nothing to do with nails or eruptions, whether V-tanking or doing it normally, I still ask whether the party want me to help with nails or wants me to stay nearby Ifrit the whole time. I don't know why you keep bringing this up.
And yes, when the core argument is "keep things simple for the DDs", kiting Caduceus makes a whole lot of sense. What a lovely non sequitur you have there.
Like I said earlier, that has nothing to do with it, because not tanking in a V is not the same thing as intentionally dropping eruptions on the main clump of the party. You still move the fucking eruptions out of the way so that the party doesn't have to scatter. So, I too have literally never seen a DD get hit by and eruption spawn on me.
I still fail to see the benefit of not tanking in a V. What confusion is there about ifrit turning like 60degrees to a side? I also didn't say you were intentionally dropping eruptions on your DD, but staying with them always leaves that chance where as doing the V there is a 0% chance I will hit anyone with it. I agree attacking nails near Ifrit or following DPS and assisting DPS is up the PT. With my static I stay near Ifrit and clear a safe spot for us to face Ifrit during the nail phase so there's no chance of hitting the DPS with any of his conals rather than follow them around. To each their own, yours just sounds like more work for no apparent reason to me
I didn't even realize he was talking about Ifrit's targeting circle changing 45 degrees on a tank swap until just now. But he's technically right. Dude, every tank who sets up in a V formation is lazy and shit--despite the fact that it removes the risk of OT eruptions and double tank incinerates completely, independent of player memorization--just so the one or two melee dps in your group--the people most used to moving--don't have to move an extra step every once in a while. When Ifrit is already spinning to do Searing Winds. When the majority of tank swaps occur while the DPS are on nails anyway.
Just accept the fact that you're a shitty, lazy tank.
The way I see it, tank's sole job is to enable other people to do their job. You make sure the enemy is where it needs to be, for both position and orientation, so that the DDs can get their abilities off and do their job (holding hate falls out of this as a sub-duty: someone else pulls hate and it's definitely not going to be in the right spot or facing the right way). You make sure you're using your cooldowns properly to negate damage so that healers can do their job and keep you alive. To say "Bahh, I don't care where it's facing, DDs should just adjust" is to abdicated about a third of your responsibilities. This shit is still braindead simple no matter what way you do it, so why not do it in the way that's infinitesimally more work for you and marginally less work for your DDs.
My complaint: Was in an Ifrit EX today and the tanks were set up in a V. I could only do 150 DPS because I'm actually Zoolander and I'm not an ambi-flanker, I can't use flank attacks on the left.
this did make me laugh.
@Hobo, We'll agree to disagree then. My group prefers the way me and my other tank are doing it, it's not us being lazy and fighting different nails than the DPS because it's easier. If the melee DPS can't adapt to which way Ifrit is facing and adjust that combo, I don't know what to tell them. Have fun in your typical dungeon? Like you said, the fight is retarded easy so it works either way. Neither way is much more work than the other, I just feel mine is a bit safer
Sounds like you're an insecure tank. Get good and stop calling people who aren't worse than you lazy to make yourself feel better. You talk about memorization and then go on to say Ifrit is already spinning to do searing wind; you so obviously don't know what the fuck you're talking about, lol.
Two PLD and no WAR means no damage mitigation from Storms Path. Two WARs and no PLD means no damage mitigation from Rage of Halone.
No u
Look at this like a hockey team:
Different strategies work for different teams (groups). You put the biggest burden on your best players on your top line and your weaker players have less responsibility on the lower lines. If your team is strong at defense, and weak at offense, you make the strong point of your game defense and have them work harder to support your weaker offense. (if your healers are your most raid aware, make them move, if they're not, you relegate them to the easier job of just standing in one spot and have your more raid aware tanks/DPS deal with the harder stuff).
Who the fuck seriously cares what way is the "right" way to do it. What a stupid argument. I've done it both ways, and I can personally say that I don't give a shit about how I'm asked to do Ifrit EX, as long as I'm done with it on the first attempt.
That's pretty much exactly how I feel, I don't fight people when the other tank is not able to deal with non-V strategies, but my own personal opinion is that I put as much of the burden on myself as I feel like I safely can, and feel like everyone who doesn't do that is lazy, because they want someone else to compensate for their lack of work. The slack has to get picked up somewhere. Lazy doesn't mean incompetent or unable to do things, it means lazy.
I prefer to shift as much of the "don't suck" burden onto myself as possible because it means the other people in the party have less to focus on and are therefore less likely to suck. This seems to fall right in line with the KISS doctrine, so by pushing the responsibility back onto the DPS/healers you are, as far as I'm concerned, being lazy. Lazy does not necessarily mean bad, but it does mean lazy.
Two PLDs means no Storm's Path which is by far the superior form of mitigation. Two WARs will generate more enmity than two PLDs, will do more damage than two PLDs, and will in all likelihood take less damage through the course of Ifrit than two PLDs because of the availability of Inner Beast and Vengeance for Incinerate, which is where the lion's share of the damage comes from. They also bring two extra Mantras to the table, for whatever that's worth (certainly, it's worth more than the 0 extra Mantras two PLDs brings to the table).
Just because you may not need the DPS doesn't mean it isn't a point in WAR's favour. That's like saying a Camero is worse than a Carolla because the speed limit is too low. Nor does never being asked to WAR make it better. If I got asked to MNK tank all the time would that make MNK the better tank?.
There is never a situation in which so much physical damage is being accrued by both tanks simultaneously that two PLDs are necessary. They are, in terms of synergy and practicality, the worst tank combo for nearly everything.
