If I remember right, weren't there advocates for the fatigue system because it "kept the playerbase roughly equal"

Don't want lock outs, get a possible chance at something dropping. Get lock outs, get certainty of drops that you may or may not want. Pick your poison. Peopled cried about the bad drop rates of DL in 1.0, now crying of the opposite.
People are going to cry, regardless.
what Lucavi said, there will always be complaints. Personally, I'd rather spam content with no lockouts but having a lockout isn't so bad either
Everyone sure loved that 0.2% chance at Voidwatch drops, right guys?
that d.ring tho
Bring back the K.I system from NNI @FFXI, problem solved.
You can only receive one KI/week but you can pick what you want from the NPC, no more 30 run of CT with complete morons that way.
Same for the PUG in BC.
That was the point
Problem solved for you, new problem for someone who doesn't think like you and like what you like. Why is this so hard to understand? Why not just hold up a big sign that says "cater this game to me because I pay a monthly fee!" At least you'd be more honest. The devs understand it, and its why Yoshi and crew have designed the game in a way that brings in profit. Game's bringing in enough profit that it dragged SE out of the red, and is going to only see more profit as it opens up to other world regions.
Go figure. Its like people think they're more important than OF posters and WoW board posters. All are equal when it comes to sub fees.
FFXIV already has this for at least 1 part of its content: Primal weapons. While I'd like to see it apply everywhere I don't mind SE having such a wide variety of drop systems in the game: from the welfare i90 to goddamn rng coil and all the shit inbetween, this game has it. I can't give 2 shits about Coil drops, because I hated the random number game since Salvage, but I'll happily use systems in the game that suit my ways of obtaining gear more, while grabbing some Coil stuff that does fall in my lap.
I don't know whats wrong with you, I am just trying to give a solution to solve the problem for people who get upset because X times in a row they drop something that is totaly obsolete for them at the said time.
No one is wanting the things handed to them, but when you go T5 & get X times the same thing its just infuriating. Also, stop defending bad design.
"You can't please all of the people all of the time" is not a free pass on poor design choices.
I think the point is that anyone who likes the system as it currently functions would argue that it's not a poor design choice.
The current design combines both low drop rates with extensive lockout times. I would say people satisfied with the current system have either benefited from it by chance or simply don't know any better (or simply don't care and will be satisfied with whatever SE gives them).
There are better ways to do it, SE even implemented it themselves with the CT drop system.
but why is it a bad design? To me people seem unhappy with it because they are stuck getting less-preferable loot and are then required to replay the content. The lockout system is annoying because you are then required to only get loot in dribs and drabs and are "forced" to login each week.
If you're someone who is lacking i90 jewelry you have many ways to solve this problem: farm extremes, spend myth, pray to RNG gods in coil. Certainly getting the same drop 5 weeks in a row is ridiculous - and is especially a problem on the one piece of equipment that doesn't have an analog. This of course wasn't a problem until they raised their ilvl to 95, before that it was a marginal increase.
I'm unhappy with it because the last time someone was pleased with a drop from Twintania in our group was in 2013. Like you said.
I really like the primal token system and I hope it, or some version of it, is re-used in the future.
