Ya we had some pissed off players in 2.1 due to a max of 8 people.

Wed want someone to fill in from our fc weeks we did not have the normal crew but they all joined groups outside the fc....and its not like I could be mad, I'd have done the same thing.

It also splits the fc, "oh I'm not part of the main group?" When mostly the reason is its the 8 people who play the most and don't get drunk mid raid.

I really hope we get open group shit and not caps. Namis and sky was a great example.

Have 50. People? Cool outside heals/swap in bards and monks when chi blast is ready.

Have 10? Better have the best set up for the fight or your fucked.

My complaint is that there's too much rose-tinted nostalgia in this thread right now. Dynamis? Christ.

Favorite part of Dynamis was being lead sleeper and running ahead of the group as RDM, sleeping shit left and right.

Fuck give me RDM please. I don't care how it's done. I want it!

I am all with you on this one, also to complement Eanae's exemple, its not hard to increase/lower the level of difficulty/foes number based on the number of people entering said raid.

Giving bigger challenges for bigger groups but not taking the challenge away by any mean for smaller groups, just by adapting the difficulty and number of foes, but of course by respecting the conditions & iLv of said raid.

Minimum 4 players, 1 Tank 1 Healer 2 deeps, and so on.
    Maximum 24 players.

This would not handicap anyone, its super easy to even find 3 friends to do a DJ. It would also force us to think on how to do things instead of SRing everything.

Neo dynamis would be a better example. Timed instance max 64 players (can be multiple groups) lots of possible loot paths. Neo had coin farming spots, NMs both timed popped and forced popped. Then it had mega boss that were hard and used for quest and drops.

While the coin farming was pretty much brain dead content having alliance zones that are 60-90 minute play grounds would be a great fix to the 8 man lunch tables.

And I don't know about you, but since 2.2 hit, I haven't been in old extremes or coil 1-5, except for 1 hour or so getting a t5 clear so I could help the FC explore t6. In my book that old content is already irrelevant.
I'll take it a step further. Not everyone is going to want to mindlessly speed run. Call 'em stupid for not want to play efficiently, sure, but this also plays back into my point that not everyone likes dungeon spamming. I suspect that if this is the route people keep approaching content from, as well, SE is going to do a stricter job of curbing speed run tactics like they did with WP and AK. I know the idea might sound dreadful if you consider the cap puts pressure on getting to it weekly, but if that were removed, you'd have some feel less inclined to force it just so they're not losing out on time-limited resources. Heck, there's also the fact people just getting into endgame or resubbing are arbitrarily behind the curve right now since there's no consideration for missed weeks/caps. All this really succeeds in doing is making it even harder for people to replenish their ranks for Coil statics and whatever other large-scale content hits that can't be DFed. Put another way, people aren't going to backtrack for someone if they can't get anything out of it. The warm and fuzzy feelings SE hopes for simply does not exist in the MMO scene in majority. You gotta pander to the greed in individuals. The ability to "max everything" not only succeeds at that, but gives completionists a goal to chase of their own. Whether or not something is really too grindy now is another matter, like relic books, which also fosters the speed run mentality because the content itself apparently isn't fun after the xth time.

You missed the point we were making if you think we're thinking really fondly of Dynamis.

@Arus: SE's design creates the divide between the playerbase that they try subdue. Ironic.

What do you mean by this? I have every craft lvled with 4 max melds(almost leas 1 or 2 control on off hand do to 150k prices.)

And I don't do DR outside when I can't cap weekly with friends.

The small amount of myth is not worth the time lol. I'll buy the shit off the mb and craft it just fine for good profits.

It depends on the pace you'd want to get some mats I guess. DR still gives a bonus on myths.

Which is sad if you consider they're the same bunch that more or less put out Abyssea, which is laden with gobs of digestible endgame goals for all jobs where the only real hitch is making sure you could stay in the zone. I'm not saying XIV should power us up with atma-like buffs and let us steamroll everything, but give us some open world endgame zones with popped/instanced mobs and players will have lots to do if every gear slot and job is taken into consideration. Fuck, even vanity variants fueled by more grand scale FATEs could multiply this lifespan exponentially for casual and hardcore alike.

Either way, my issues with their time gating aren't new. Some want to misguidedly believe it keeps the casuals and hardcores closer together, but I think it's the other way around since once the latter gets their fill, it's basically time to raid log if they aren't just excluding themselves from the PUG pool anyway.

The number one threat to this game is still the lack of a proper community / FC centric content designed to get people social and thus subbing for friends while content droughts happen. As far as I'm concerned if you're looking at that weekly soldiery cap as a quota to be met you've already taken your first step toward quitting.

Worse since most of us here are XI vets or generally hardcore types. Just imagine how a casual player feels (especially with that ramp up in difficulty post-praetorium) and I'm seeing a realm of bleeding subs. The PS3/4 infusion is great but this game is still on the fast track to such haunts as GW2, TERA, Rift et al. I've been conditioned to deal with bullshit galore but how many people really want to cap their night with grinding Brayflox for a weekly cap? These things are only more pronounced when you have to do them with randoms and your FC is severely devalued.

Complete lack of use for half the fish in the game and crafting being a neat 'lil sidepiece (and little else) are personal peeves. Why cook or fish if no one is going to use your products? Everything feels like an afterthought to the instances and completely kills my drive to level.

Cooking might be the worst example to use as a "crafting is ded," but yes crafting is ded.

If you aren't eating food you're essentially just choosing to not equip a belt and that's just like wtf y not. Esp now that food persists through death and M&M2 gives it an extra 10min

    /nod

Personally I can't really spam speed run, I already get bored of a dungeon doing it 3 times in a row and need a change of scenery.

I "missed" (read: couldn't be arsed to fuckin log in for the mediocre reward crap) the last 2 soldiery caps. But while I miss 900 points I won't be behind the curve much for SE's next installment of tomes. All thanks to SE's stupid ilvl requirement for the dungeons dropping the tomes for the "10 ilvl lower than coil" gear. Why the fuck are these dungeons even scaled so low? And why not add an extreme version? Tomes should have been in the extreme dungeons only then, gives you something difficult to do besides lockout/rng extravaganza coil.

If we are going to think back of FFXI, might as well bring back Einherjar. Going in, not knowing what kind of set up of mobs to expect, so had to plan for all the options. Going in with only 1 alliance? No problem, we tone it down a bit. Going in with more than 1 alliance? We tune it up. It was one of the 2 events in FFXI I actually did for fun and not the rewards.

The other was Abyssea, once the NM's were toned down to a 10-15min timer, it was good old casual fun where you could deck out your linkshell in very good gear. Got shit done in an evening, wether you had 3 people or an entire alliance. Some fights could still rape you with a bad tp move combo no matter what atma's you had on, so not everything was a cake walk. Casuals decked out a few jobs, hardcores were running around with 20 AF3 sets and 10+ Empyrean weapons. Whatever your playstyle was, it worked.

    inb4 abyssea ruined FFXI, I don't agree.

It didn't. Being able to do things with my set of 9 friends and some second accounts in Abyssea was by far in the top-tier of fun experiences in my 9 years of playing XI and WotG being kind of shitty (those Strongholds were kind of tedious at times). The move away from the drama fuel of Kings and their like was really something we enjoyed. Voidwatch kind of killed any passion we had though.. lol

We even met some new/old people and those friendships carried into XIV, before the restrictions on Coil collided with real life scheduling. It's frustrating being able to do the content if it scaled or wasn't restricted (in terms of loaning your experience/ability to clear as being treated as a tangible good in the same sense of item lotting).
