Slots in my static are turning into revolving doors, so I'd agree with that.

First expansion is either going to be the nail in the coffin that "this is the game forever" or its saving grace in giving something new and different. Hoping it's the latter.

Yes, classes are built to do more damage in different situations. Smart people will learn eventually. Others never will. How many people do you see try to argue that warriors are godlike tanks because they have so much more HP than paladins? Do you care what those people think?
I'm glad you want to turn the game into a shitty DPS dickwaving contest, use a third party tool. Sell me the idea official parsers will make things more efficient/allow people to up their skills and all I hear is it quickly becoming a way to make even the most mundane dungeons an exercise in elitism where only numbers matter. Because apparently ilvl differences aren't enough. Or the mechanics of instances. Or the weekly caps. Or making progress in raid-tier/extreme content.

For the astute elitist, there are already tools to allow anyone to only play with the finest DPS/healers/tanks. Party finder allows you to establish your terms. Vote kick allows you to rid yourself of anyone who isn't up to scratch. Free Companies allow you to screen people with similar styles to your own. The last thing ARR needs is an official DPS meter for every dumbfuck under the sun to use in *insert meaningless content here* as a means of measuring their ability to be the best, like no one ever was. Or that preening nerd reminding everyone that he's topped the DPS charts in something, something EX.

I hear complaints about revolving door statics all the time. Thankfully my static has never really gone through that... it's pretty much been one slot that changes every few months. It's definitely becoming more and more common and worries me about the state of the game in general. Gonna have to change something up here soon otherwise people are gonna unsub for Wildstar and other stuff.

Everything not being in a fucking instance would be a great start.

Not even really a revolving door in my group's case. Our tank of several months quit but we (seem to) have a hard lock on a new one. The hard part is finding a caster who is ok with it being a 3 week temporary position who doesn't literally bail the day that we're running. Twice now. lol.

Another lurker that has been reading all the posts about statics and nodding along.

My real life friend and I quit our static a few weeks back because of some general fuckery of the static organizer (e.g. clearing Turn 6 with one other member early in the week before our last scheduled run and claiming it was a mistake when they knowingly joined another friend's clear group that has it on farm). Before we left, our static had also become a revolving door and the leader kept inviting whoever regardless of class and/or skill just to try and fill the spot. This made even trying to clear Turn 6 awful and incredibly frustrating. PUGs are absolutely terrible for basically everything that's not Leviathan or Atma farming.

My friend and I have had trouble finding another static that can fit both of us in it and have pretty much given up. As a result, I'm seriously considering quitting and trying out Wildstar. Beyond Coil, there just isn't anything else to do for worthwhile progression. If you're not in Coil, FFXIV is pretty much "Allagan Tomestones: The Game." Soldiery/Myth farming and the Animus grind is not fun content to us. In spite of that, I have two Animus weapons just so I could fill the time spent not doing Coil to try and progress. I will not be getting a third Animus weapon; I would rather quit. And after all of this, I am worried that SE won't give anything higher than i100 to non-Coil players in 2.3 and PUGs will require i101 or higher for everything.

We considered giving up the house we paid for in our dead FC and joining a larger FC just to have access to a fairly static group of players to do content with but it seems like that won't help considering the way Coil lockouts work and hearing about all the cliques and exclusive groups in existing FCs. Giving up the house just doesn't seem worth the trouble of being ignored in another FC.

I haven't logged in for 4-5 days and I haven't fallen behind or missed out on basically anything because I no longer do Coil. I have all classes at 50, so I have nothing to level. The only thing I can really do to progress is 10 runs of Brayflox/Lost City/Halatali each week or start another Animus. To me, that's not worth my time or my money and it makes me kind of sad.

Wow, looks like I hit a nerve. Yes, us "preening nerds" already have tools to remind everyone of our pointless achievements. My point was that hiding DPS done does what exactly? If I go into a titan hard mode and do 40% of the damage of the highest DPS, so what? That's exactly how much damage I did. I already run with a parser, do I harass everyone in my roulette parties? No, because I am not a douchebag. It would be nice to have official support and not to have to go borderless windowed and load it up every time.

Officializing it would make it more accepted by at least some people. It will never realistically happen because of the huge negative stigma attached to persecuting people for bad DPS unless they specifically obfuscate information (like just how much damage YOU did, and not the rest of the party) which will then turn to witch hunts asking people to post their own numbers.

It shouldn't be this way because people should want to improve themselves if they're so far behind. Instead people just want to not have their feelings hurt.

Not even remotely the same thing but I liken this to arcade games with high score crap. Does it really hurt your feelings that this other guy scored higher than you? Does it make you wanna score better? Not really for most people, if score is a meaningless statistic.

If you take it with a pinch of salt you will realise that he was not aiming at you personaly and that he is quite right.

He is talking about a good majority of people who already use the provided tools to bully and poison the community, he's totaly right when he state that (summarising) the option of an ingame ranking/parser would only give more ammunitions to these people arsenal.

In addition, this playerbase is completely stupid, I would go as far as I could and call them totaly fucking retarded dickheads, why? Just see how people acted like sheeps and promoted the "1 fail = kick" inter-servers.

This would be pouring more oil on the fire and its not necessary.

Tools can be used for good or for ill. We've already seen that with the addition of vote kick. I'd still rather have some sort of gauge for DPS rather than none at all. Personally, right now I try to judge people based on relative enmity levels, but that's a crapshoot sometimes with Quelling/Elusive.

No, you didn't hit a nerve, I'm just calling it as I see it. Feel free to see into that whatever you please.

Parsers begin the slow march towards an elitist environment that effectively shuts out middling players and creates a game where you've got snot nosed 'skilled' players and bads. Anyone who's simply 'competent' either get roasted up against the flames of "you're not optimizing!", "I'm beating you by 10.8%!" "suck less man" or is left to rot with the bads who cannot be helped period. What do parsers do for an environment other than create a combative atmosphere in a game that's trying to shove cooperation up your anus? The excuse it's going to help bads is pure dogshit all around unless by help you mean shit on people before the inevitable /kick.

(Which you can do already. Right now.)

If you're gonna parse, wonderful. In the hands of everyone as an official SE tool, it's just another reason everyone in PT will be bitching about DPS score rather than taking down monsters. Skill tiers are already in place, bads aren't getting past EX easily without willful carries, bads are shut out of Coil and you can PF filter anyone who you think is bad via your own ground rules.

This games community is already questionable, we don't need more reasons for people to bicker and regret logging in for a night of gaming. Forgive me for wanting the game to hold subs in a game where people are already bitching about not being able to setup raid groups. Lets just give more people reasons to quit!

Seriously? Having easily a 50+dps advantage doesn't outweigh having to move a little? Stop it. Yes, good BRDs can still keep up with and even outparse all other DPS, yes, good DPS but they don't have some bullshit unfair advantage.

If bads wanna quit, maybe devs will cater to the voracious endgame crowd with nothing to do.

depends on what you mean by bads.

are they the ones that can't beat T5 before Echo but could after or the ones that do Blizzard III > Blizzard III non-stop?

the latter don't quit, cause they don't care. if the former quits the game will die.

Some will stay bad but enough will wonder why they suck and ask or research improving the overall community.
You don't generally do important shit with bads and any PuG parse is generally meaningless outside checking everyone's accuracy. Do they have a BRD/COR/both? Do one or both suck? Are they getting Haste? It's pretty easy to crush people when you've got a 4-song BRD and a non-retarded COR and the other guy has neither.

Dayumn when did BG get so many carebears? Why do people care if people doing shit dps get their panties in a twist after getting called out on their shit dps? None of the jobs in this game are very hard to play decently and it's not hard to go to google and find advice on your job. A built in parser would make it that much easier to put the pants on head retarded healers/dps on spot without skirting around talking about parsers in game.

Yoshida is not Tanaka, he'd sooner shut the game down.

Like it or not, this is a theme park MMO and that means lots of bads amidst the good. I feel we've been given sufficient tools to weed out the worst barring the mandatory-DF escapades designed to force us to play with others, remind us DF is chock full of shit players and assure you that Castrum Miridianum is still the most boring shit ever. You might even make a friend before they get sent back to their home server.

An integrated parser would be neat. If you're not terrible then you have nothing to worry about. If you are, you have something to help you. And Like Falisa put, it's not difficult to google rotations. I'm sure there's people out there who have no idea that their dps is disgusting cuz they have nothing to compare it to except the occasional "holy fuck you suck" comment they surely get. For some people it's just attention to detail, like the blizz3 spamming blms who didn't pay attention to the description of Astral Fire. If they had something to compare it to like, "Shit, that other DRG with the same gear as me did like 20,000 more damage that fight than I did but how?" could inspire them to go and figure it out.
