Of course no one wants to admit that most fights are just gimmicky like Heigan dance coupled with stupid lockouts on raids.
Healer hands 3 weeks in a row....BRD earring 3 of the last 4 weeks.
Egos get wrapped up in this stuff. If someone's consistently failing a mechanic or not pulling their weight, it's practically impossible to reprimand someone you know in real life without them taking it personally. It takes a certain kind of disconnect to realize that being told to stop fucking up something for the thirtieth time doesn't mean the person telling you that hates you.
99% of the time when the people I knew got douchey, it was them getting defensive over being told to stop ignoring Rot and blowing us up or something retarded.
To be fair, it didn't come from reddit it was simply linked from reddit![]()
At first I was meh, but then I read it all and it was really good. The highlight for mere was:
"The current "mechanics-driven battle system" is considerd bland by the hardcore gamers (the biggest problem here, I think), frustrating by the mainstream gamers, and actually prevents the casual crowd from playing altogether."
That's pretty hard to disagree with.
I don't necessarily know the solution, we certainly can't have a repeat of turn 4 to make up the rest of the game.It would be nice if there were more content that was just.. hard in of itself.
It's kind of hard to adjust it, other then making an EX version for hardcore gamers to get titles/vanity shit from and make the normal version mechanics not so fucking brutal. MMO fights in general are just basically Heigan dances nowadays. Memorize the pattern and you win!
I don't think its fair to call them all Heigan dances...
I'm smn for a t7 group that doesn't stack or hold dps ever...
So beyond keeping track of timers in my head for raging, potion, contagion, aetherflow, rouse, spur, enkindle, bio, bio2, miasma, etc like I would in any fight... because dear god if I take my eyes off the field for a second I am dead.
I also have to track... time until next renauld, time until current renauld unfreezes, time until next shreak, time until next scream, time until my voice wears off if I have one, what the percentage is and estimated time until phase change, which timers reset at 60% and 35% and what doesn't, time until next petrafaction, timing of the circles and when they go boom, sometimes timing on when the healers voice goes off and if they have one, etc.
I'm hilariously surprised I pulled 263 dps on today's kill.
Isn't kiting on smn the best :3
That post made me take my anxiety medication lol. I got downgraded from kiter on BRD and we let SMN do it. I couldn't handle all that shit you just listed without having a panic attack lol.
pls! for day's mental health, don't exaggerate. kiting and dpsing is the hardest role in t7 but most of those things don't need to be tracked.
time until next renaud: when one spawns you tag it
time until current renaud unfreezes: have your healers re-freeze it
time until next shriek: when a shriek goes out you look at your debuff bar, at this point you should subconsciously know when a shriek is coming anyway
time until next scream: what is a scream?
time until my voice wears off: everybody does this
what the percentage is and time until phase change: see add, kill add
which timers reset @ 60%/35%: all of them?
time until next petrification: see petri, turn around
timing of circles: don't stand in the fire
timing of healers voices: don't stand in front of the healers
To be honest, I would love to be the kiter in turn 7. Wiping to turn 7 for a grueling 2 hours is no fun and it's even less fun when all you do is 1-2-3 for 90% of the fight.
T7 was a bitch 110% but past 2 weeks been able to one shot it with a few tricks, no not a lolrenaud wall, just raid awareness and focus from everyone to make my life easier
Speaking of which, my complaint: I didn't think I could hate turn 7 more than I did. But after picking up two more members I found an entirely new level of hatred. The hatred you feel when it's not the new members wiping you, it's your veterans, who should know better by now. One of them messes up, then another, then you get an unlucky unfreeze, then the new people mess up once or twice and before you know it you've spent 2 hours in this hellhole.
Edit:
Domino effect.
-On each wipe, everyone gets more bored of the fight that their minds wander and they become more likely to make a mistake.
Self-fulfilling prophecy.
-They put less effort into each attempt, because each attempt now has a high level of failing so why waste effort?, which makes it even more likely to wipe.
We called coil early last night because of above. Started 2 hours late due to RL stuff, get into T6 and PLD is having massive lag spikes but we one-shot it np.
Go into T7 and take an hour to clear due to lag / stupidity / herpderpdiscipline / frustration. Called it because it was only 40 min left in raid for T8 and neither me nor PLD wanted to deal with it anymore.
That post... I... people dislike mechanics heavy fights? One shot mechanics are clear skill checks.
Ugh. FFXI players please stop requesting fights be gear walls rather than skill walls, you're making me sad. This dude's post in terms of the mechanics section is literally saying you should be able to eat dumb shit and get gear carried. That's incredibly retarded.
Still, team rope jumping is a great way to describe it. I have had members say that they saw they had voice then forgot they had it 5 seconds later and voice the raid. I can't jump the rope for you, man. You gotta jump.
If a raider can't remember that they have voice, do they deserve to win that attempt? No, definitely not. But this point resonated with me:
I don't allow meaningless bitching in my group but everybody feels frustrated when things don't go well in turn 7. Same goes for turn 9. "Stop getting hit by lunar. Stop standing near the tank on a reset. stop using convalescence only for bahamut's claw, dying and getting raised, then wiping the raid @ 2% because you've never dealt with thunderstruck before jesus christ. Stop getting hit by your own cauterize! Just look at the damn marker!"The upper level mainstream players are probably all dealing with hostile and frustrating parties right about now...Especially for people who just want to clear the Second Coil, the overwhelming (hostile) sentiment is "why are you having so much problem dealing with such a simple mechanic? Just look at the damn marker!"
