This is my first "power creep" MMO.

So I am lvl 50 with i90 gear (+40) and I level to 60 with the same i90 gear. I have i100 stats?

I level to 60 I am equal to a level 50 in i60 gear? (besides any new abilities)

I don't think that's how it works though. Basically, it's the developer's way of telling us "ok here's an item with a higher item level than your current. it's better. use it"

no way it works like that.

if Lv 50 gear tops out at like iLv 135.
you'll probably get Lv 55-60 gear from the expansion storyline and new area quests that are iLv 100-120.

the Lv 60 endgame Raid and whatever is the new weekly capped Tomes will be the first place that you can get i140+ items.

what about when you're level 35 and wear ilvl 5 gear?

    Yeah raid or die!
Raiders are lucky people who have 7 other people that can play at a scheduled time at the same time. So basically should we complain about luck or grind?
SE knows Coil is majorly flawed so they gave something to grind.
I really don't see the problem since there is close to none skill difference between the grinders and the raiders.

I was with you until that part. The ability to collect soldiery and complete glorified-FATEs doesn't teach you how to engage in raid mechanics. I had to explain to someone with a Conqueror and Noct Body/Legs what spiritbonding was the other day. Not where to, not how to efficiently.

He was i104 and did not know how to convert gear into materia. He thought spiritbonding referred to people raising their chocobos. It might be wrong of me to assume, but I'm willing to guess he's not some idiot tank savant who just was oblivious to mechanics.

Then again, I've seen plenty of people in HA gear without a clue, either. Gear =/= skill, and never has.

What exactly has to do spiritbond knowledge with raid mechanics knowledge?

I know of people on my server who, 2 weeks after 2.2 hit, were only just then unlocking Leviathan stroymode but were deep into Coil.

    That makes sense.

So gear just continues on its ilvl Path. There is never a gear ilvl reset.

There is really veryy little room outside of some healing to really show skill, most of the time it is just your ability to memorize an instance and be able to maximize you performance in that instance. You say, good the dps is high and he doesnt die, or ok the tank knows where to go, the healer didnt let us die...etc You rarely every say, wow nice job "tank x" you really came though there.

At least for BLM, there are a few situations where you can show more than a baseline level of competence: BLM emergency healing (happens far more often than I'd like), BLM unexpected tanking (ditto), soloing the Chimera at the end of Cutter's Cry, etc. I'm not even sure these qualify as "skill" per se, rather they're more an ability to think outside the DPS box.

The problem is that in all of these examples, someone else has to either make a grievous error in play and/or be generally incompetent before you can have the opportunity to display your skill. So no one's going to say "good job X!" because they're all pissed that Y's failure made your performance necessary in the first place.

Yeah, the only 'good job' skillful moments I can recall are those where someone was more aware of what was going on in the raid than their usual job would call for and made some smart moves to allow us to recover from an OH SHIT situation. Turn 7 certainly has the most of these moments that I've seen.

Which is one of my largre pet peeves with this game. Why the fuck do the AoE animations, especially caster LBs, play a year after the gtfo marker disappears?

Hell, caster LB3 should be prepping a large-ass meteor overhead during the cast bar, then immediately drop it once the targeting circle disappears. Fights like Ifrit or Titan would feel better if you weren't able to dance into the deadly looking animations and take zero damage due to the way attacks are timed out.

I don't know any other MMO that works that way, and it's part of the confusion for new players who felt they were out of the attack because of that disconnect.

i have hated blm healing ever since our blm tried to solo heal a pld through bahamut's claw. our pld freaked out and called for heals even though he was going to die anyway and our blm wasted three GCDs using physick instead of dpsing the boss and we wiped to enrage. i wanted to choke someone

Well, the other option is to have the animation halt if it gets interrupted, which is equally weird.

METEORS ABOVE YOUR HEAD OH SHIT HERE COME THE ME--
Oh, the caster moved, crisis averted.

Still better than the current situation which is "You're already dead btw, just waiting on the animation to finish so we can deal the held damage".

It certainly would be more comical (and I'd prefer it too).

Such a first world problem, but ... I won a UAT off a cheeky lot in ST the other day.

While the hunt drama was kinda silly and fun to watch from the sidelines while gathering and fishing, I don't care to be in the thick of it. It's just a monotonous marathon of chocobo rides around zones punctuated by panicked teleports to other zones swarmed by people who may or may not have an itchy trigger finger and a total, sociopathic disregard for others. I really shouldn't be bitching about such an easy i110 weapon, but I look forward to finishing off the last seals needed for a sand.

This whole hunt business just isn't my thing, but I outlotted a number of other people for that UAT. I feel obligated to put it to use.

Yeah, you and me both. I got the weapon but I want to un-weather it, figure I'll try to get enough for 1 sand at least.

It's mad easy to hunt on Excal, Neon. Join one of the "Seasons" LSs, they just reformed earlier this week to kick out people who quit showing up/get fresh people in to hunt
