I have always wondered about this -- does the game require that you remove all your armor before you can fantasia?

Yeah, I believe so. Have not used a fantasia, to be honest.

Though if I can fantasia into the hulked-out male roe version of a thai ladyboy, I'll be so tempted.

Yes. Well, sort of. You can use the Fantasia with gear on, but in order to enter the Character Edit from the log-in screen, you need to be naked. Trying to do it while wearing armor will make the game yell at you and tell you to log in and strip first.

Not really a praise so much as it it's a win. Got into an in-progress AK Hard Mode that was on the last boss and normally I don't look at names because I don't normally care. Maybe at about 20% of the boss, I noticed one of the names looked highly familiar. Turned out it was one of my close buddies from my FF11 days. Really made my day running into him. We exchanged personal info and chatted it up until the dungeon kicked us out. Real unfortunate you can't friend people cross server but grateful that I was able to run into him again after all of these years.

I wa slucky enough that this happened to me on my own server - saw an awfully familiar name in a PF and turned out to be one of the guys I knew for 4+ years in FFXI.
