I love it when tanks aggro twenty mobs and let the DPS AoE them down. so much more efficient than regular pulls. had that happen for the first time the other day, and while it pushed my skills as a healer - I used more Lustrates in that Amdapor than I have in the entire game otherwise - it was such a wonderful experience.

That's rather sad it was your first time to have a tank with a pair of balls, but at least you got dps that actually aoe shit down. It's a catch 22 every day I do expert with randoms, go pld and ensure big pulls while out dps'ing the dps at bosses by 50-70, but at the expense of never getting dps (melee/brd generally) that will aoe the pile of trash I just grouped up...didn't pull all of it for you to single target. It is absolutely mind boggling to me that people can't calculate maximum dps is through aoe and big pulls, yet rest assured, I can bet the melee/brds won't be aoeing for whatever reason. I could otherwise go bard and aoe properly, do solid dps at bosses, but end up with a tank that can't handle more than three trash mobs at once and does sub 100 dps at bosses. Knowing I won't be doing Alexander hard mode, seriously has me question continue playing when I see how much brain damage there will be from playing with randoms for normal mode.

The big streamers are piling onto Jenova now. Started a character there to join in on the fun and it's really nice to see the excitement when new players experience content for the first time... and see how much of it there really is to get through.

itmeJP, Dexteritybonus, and Strippin have been playing for the past few months bringing the FFXIV viewers on Twitch up into the thousands on a regular basis. They each have large Twitter followings too and regularly tweet about the game, so it's brought a lot of new people into the fold.

Now there's a new wave that are coming along as well. Towelliee, GassyMexican, lolrenaynay, eatmydiction... all starting to play with hundreds of thousands of followers. Should be interesting for the game come Heavensward!

Yeah when I saw Towelliee playing that was really cool. He's already 50 though trying to catch up in story. He was doing the guildhests from Slafborn(sp) lol

As cool as it is to see the game get exposure through big name youtubers and streamers, I don't get how anyone in their right mind can watch mmo streaming outside of goal-focused raid content. None of these streamers are at that level of progression.

Is the internet that boring you'd watch dodger fight primals on twitch? Surely there's something more interesting you could be viewing lol

I pretty much agree. I'm not usually the type of person to watch streams. I don't even really watch much of anything anymore, including tv and movies. But when I'm playing or working it's sometimes nice to have these new FFXIV players on in the background. I don't watch it for the gameplay, only for the reactions and impressions from fresh players. It's a similar feeling to when you introduce a friend to a game you like - it's just nice to see them enjoy it. Good change of tone since most of the people I talk to about the game can tend to get a bit jaded sometimes.

I remember when those speedrunner guys did the FF marathon and dedicated a few hours for FFXI. I stopped watching it when they started FFXI, it was unbearable. Plus,you can't really speedrun FFXI back in 200...9?

Surprisingly coil streams are often the LEAST viewed of all of the ffxiv streams. Unless you mention specific challenges, the viewership isn't very high. But you also can't discount the streamer him/herself. For example, theres a Diablo 3 player who recently started FFXIV and he still retains a decent chunk of his viewers. Sure, not every one of them wants to watch ffxiv, they'd rather watch Diablo. But you will get people who enjoy you, enjoy your chat community, or would never have watched a certain game being played if it wasn't for that streamer.

Think of it like BG. Some people have been around for over 10 years because they like the community and the content. So you watch a stream because you like that person's content and the community they have gathered. Its a shame this wasn't around when we all played ffxi. I would definitely tune in to someone's Dragon 's Aery camp while i was LFP for those popcorn moments.

Oh I get it. My community has a couple streamers with a small following. They'll watch anything those people play.

But I mean an mmo? Tuning into a DA camp would be akin to watching paint dry. Gotta draw the line somewhere. Mmos are boring as fuck on stream, and no amount of girly giggling over it would keep me there.

I think it's pretty cool that Gassy, his GF (lolrenaynay), Diction, and Towel are playing XIV. The more exposure, the better. and I've been watching Dodger play a little here and there too, always brings a smile to my face when people experience new stuff.

Same dilemma, but I still always go tank. Primarily for the insta-queue, but I also prefer to be the one controlling the tempo. I'll SR if it's viable; I'll slow play if we have a bunch of first timers. Would obviously prefer to SR 100% of the time, but I'd rather slow play a bad group than repeatedly push the envelope and end up porting back to entrance several times.
