Even at 60 I'd still need a group, and between the lack of faith I have in PUGs and the FC I got suckered in "Working on getting to endgame" (even though it's dead 90% of the time time), I'm really not in the mood to bash my head against a wall for 5 clears.

You can 4 man all of coil it's really not that bad, obviously the more people you have the easier it will honestly become because of how fast you will push phases so you wont have to deal with encountering mechanics that can wipe you relatively fast. I recently ran someone through coil unsynced and it was really impressive how few mechanics we actually saw.

Maybe I'll give it a chance when I gear up. Still only in 170ish stuff ATM.

170 is fine. Make a Party Finder, make sure to say NEED CLEAR BONUS AVAILABLE and the tome addicts will flock in.

People still want gear/music drops and tomes, they'll be attracted to it. Then say "I think I know strat, seen video" but die anyways, the rest will do the job for you.

All depends on if you have enough people who know the fight to carry it when the new players get themselves killed.

After first meteor wave, gather up at a predetermined, marked spot. Wait for first marker above someone's head. Everyone hit sprint, run around outside edge of arena. When you get back to starting point, scatter into mid. T9 sorted. DPS hard enough to skip final phase.

You'll find that a lot of FCs are 90% dead, or trying to be endgame orientated but never actually getting to that point. I haven't bothered with FCs in a long long time now due to that. But then PUGs are far worse, so I haven't done anything serious either. Still never cleared an extreme in PF/DF. Really takes some luck/coordination with people that don't know each others 'work' ethics..

Makes me sad to admit, but guy above is 100% correct. It's usually the same cycle, patch releases and everyone comes out of the woodwork because it's hot right now and then vanishes again. It's getting old and this patch honestly aside from Nidhogg, has me pretty underwhelmed. I won't be resubbing even after the 60+ days I got for buying it on PC. I felt like I have wasted my money, I barely login to do Midas 4 for the weekly gear, so you know that's a horrible sign. I just don't care for this game as much these days and rehashing the same weekly tome caps, raids inferior to Coil does not help.

Honestly, and I say this as someone with a seething hatred of the way the game has gone, if you are dead set on enjoying the game and finding a place in it, there are plenty of ways to do it.

    1. Make your own FC. Even if you are the only member, having your own FC is fun. You can get a house and work on your airship, garden if that's your thing, dye your chocobo and decorate. Or you can recruit people and run shit your own way, no more sifting through a bunch of deadbeat dps who only know how to push 2 buttons, you are now calling the shots. If all the FCs are dead, more reason for you to scoop up the good players who are left homeless.

    2. Get to know the people on your server. Whether you have to join the largest FC on the server to do it or just look at PF and read shouts a LOT, the best way to integrate and get shit done is by knowing who everyone is. Join as many linkshells as you can, even if they're just dumb social ones. Easier to do on a smaller server, of course, but if you think about it this is how MMOs are supposed to be: a community that knows itself. This is how things got done in XI's heyday and it is how it has to be if you want to get things done in XIV as well. Yes you will still have shit for brains polluting your duty finder runs, but you can minimize your PF headaches simply by recognizing a good number of names and seeking them out when you have something that needs doing.

    3. Create a niche for yourself. Be the server's most avid fisher or crafter or whatever. Advertise some kind of gimmick on PF from time to time, like costume parties or craft giveaways or diceroll gambling. It's one way to have fun in the game and cuts out a lot of the work involved in getting to know people, because they will get to know you instead. And it may even keep you busy between patches. People are so starved for contact, since in its normal course the game doesn't force any need to group on players whatsoever. They will flock to you if you give them a reason to.

There are a lot of things wrong with the game. There are not a lot of reasons to play. But for everyone who is still hanging on and trying to make the most of it, you kind of have to create your own "best environment". You can't sit silently in town all day waiting for other people to suddenly un-dumb so that your PFs finally work out all right, and you sure as hell can't count on SE to create a proper MMO environment for you because all they care about is getting their fifteen bucks from the cash shop on top of people's monthly sub fees. You have to get super involved in the community to filter through the bullshit. Only you can make the game worthwhile through how you choose to play it. MMOs were never meant to be played with as little interaction between players as XIV requires, and that fact is never clearer than when you join a DF/PF with pants-on-head retards for teammates.

All of this takes time though. Instant gratification and MMOs do not mix well (although SE is trying very hard to make it that way in XIV which is where 90% of its problems stem from). It takes time to establish an FC, it takes time to integrate yourself into a group, and it takes time to make a name in the community. This is time that the average player doesn't bother spending on anything but madly spamming dungeons to get clears/drops. And none of this is immune to falling apart between patches when the game is a ghost town, but when people know who you are, at least there's always hope that you can start it up again during the lively weeks.

I don't feel dumb advocating any of this because I did all of it while I was subbed. My greatest joys were in interacting with the community on my server and I had a lot of fun making a place for myself there. My best XIV memories aren't just from friends I already had before I started playing but also revolve around people I randomly met and befriended. In the end it just wasn't enough for me because the core gameplay is lacking and I can just as easily create that environment for myself somewhere else in a game that's more fun to play. But seriously, I hope that all of you who still can't let go of your sub can take something from this post even if it's just how much of an idiot I am for trying.

Silenka it's not a good sign when you have to come up with ways to validate your reason to continue playing.

F2P MMORPGs are often shit and they make you P2W : Wildstar is shit, Blade and Soul only has its PvP otherwise it's shit etc...
Lower subs could be an alternative if they cut out the useless stuff that take too much ressources while no one do them : Diadem, Verminion etc...

I use to be one of those people that were logged in on all of my free time no matter what, but now that I have pretty much gotten over this game. I find myself going through my backlog, Witcher 3 a game I put off for an entire year because of this piece of shit MMO. Though I am glad I did, now I am playing on a nice rig and game looks much better than it did on the PS4.

When I login and see like the same no lifers that I use to once be like (in terms of practically only playing this game), they still play this shit just for the fuck of it.. don't even try to do Savage, group with others, or challenge themselves... just ugh get the fuck out. There are way better games out there to be playing and the fact that Alexander is a goddamn joke compared to Coil makes my blood boil.

The patch about to release is probably the most underwhelming thing I have ever seen, even with Nidhogg. I bit last time because of how huge the patch was but I am not falling for this shit again. Not paying a dime more toward sub until I see something I actually want to do like fighting the actual rest of the Warring Triad statues (some fuck face garlean does not count), or Samurai finally get introduced.

I don't want to defend the game at all cost, but in a way the community has the game it deserves. I mean, how can you possibly log into a MMO and just want to sit there and look beautiful without any kind of challenging content to do. That seems to happen a lot on NA/EU servers. If we had a competitive community, trust me SE wouldn't waste money on stuff like Diadem, Verminion or same repetitive dungeons and tomes grind to catch up on gear.

In the entire almost year (think I quit a couple months into post-Alex 3.0) that I've been gone, knowing that none of my old static and maybe only some of my old friends are left on my server if they still play at all, the only thing that remotely tugs at me to come back is that I really fucking liked lala DRK animations and my stupid fucking glamour from when I quit:
    Spoiler: show

Other than that, having "something to do", and knowing I'm at least paying less because legacy status, there isn't much making me want to come back. Just raw lingering addiction nostalgia.

...Still probably gonna re-sub for a month to take a peek. fml

e: nevermind lol. Caught in an infinite loop (security token app reset itself at some point, account management requires OTP to let me remove the OTP) and I don't want to deal with CS for "just a peek". Bye lalafells

I love the challenge Savage brings, I have only ever completed one and that's Alex Gordias 1. Shortly after my static split due to members no showing completely and several times. People also joined expecting us to absolutely blitz through it easily and were disappointed when it took some tries. I wish I could find a reliable crew of people but a lot of my RL friends don't even play anymore, the one that does is already in a locked static, and hates playing the game at any time but his raid time. The more time passes, the less reasons I keep finding myself to play. Could I start crafting or maybe even level Ninja? Sure can, but do I want to right now with a lot of great players not even active and getting the short end of the random retard stick in DF?

I will have to pass for now, and I honestly thought I would never say that, even with 40+ days still left on my sub. I really hope they step it up because Nidhogg isn't enough, I really consider that shit main storyline. Alex raids feels underwhelming overall and seem to have NOTHING to do with Alexander and everything to do with the Goblins and all this random bullshit. It's just cementing itself to me as "no fucks given".
