I think this FFXIV team should get development team of the year. Simply for turning one of the worst MMO's in history to a much better one.

9/17/2013 - the day the mass RMT spam shout has come to an end, thank fucking god the free period has ended and that there is currently no trial basis available for people to sign up and give the game a try and abuse the shit. Altho I'm sure they will have very strict conditions when they do that stuff... i.e. no shout and can only talk in say once every 5 minutes.
I did Coerthas FATEs at 3am PST, and actually had a lot of fun. Feels like they were tuned for about a quarter of the usual amount of players.
I love that you get decent gear as you level and that low level dungeon gear is attractive. I remember the loose collection of brown and blue robes etc for mages in XI....
The crafting system is clever and addictive. I can literally spend an evening just gathering and crafting but feel like I've had a fun.
Hunting/crafting/gathering logs are a really nice feature. No need to discover recipes and a great way to guide you to resources.
Not having to rely on other people to get around is pretty fantastic and the choice to porter, ride, teleport or airship is all yours.
When I resubbed last night, I had 689 Crysta still in my account from presumably yearsback when I paid for XI with Crysta and that's exactly what my XIV subscription was. Was nice to not have to get my card.
I'm glad Shout Parties are still a thing in this game. I got about 20 friends on my list now since our chatter actually matters now. After dealing with DF groups so much, this was a breath of fresh air.
Shit like this:
The dig at Silvertear Falls has reached a new phase, and we are ready to excavate the fill from what we believe to be either a chocobo burial or the site of a grand feast.
Mad praise for item descriptions such as this. Only click if you're past Lvl 35 of storymode (~10 quests past Titan).
Spoiler: show
The time it takes to put the item in your bag varies based on the race too.
The way I can eat a new food if I already have a food
Is there a wiki or some place that I can read about the bosses in Binding Coil? Even just the boss names or the story behind it. I can't find anything other than "Turn 1, Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4" videos...
The fact that crafting has AF and most of it looks fucking fantastic
