A tip for those using a controller. Go into the character settings then hot bar settings. Go to the cross tab and turn on toggle under hot bar controls.
No more wrecking your hand holding down LT or RT!

mixed is better than toggle, gives the toggle function but lets you hold down to do stuff too, and clears as soon as you release if you hold it down for a few sec
I hate to admit it, but once I get in a server I was having a blast despite the barrage of quests that seemed to get thrown at me.
Tad off topic, any shells on Ragnarok?
Had a tank last night in Tam Tara(sp?) use that thinggie to number mobs on priority. Where was this during FFXI and Dynamis?
The xp bonus on lower level classes is amazing.
Story is really good so far.
Two days in a row no issues with instances and logging in. (Log in the morning, stay all day)
So much shit to do starting as a new character, all the awesome references and flavor texts, Fates, etc.
Arcanist was done really well
Fuck I really enjoy this game, considering I'm doing the same starting stuff for the third time now thats pretty impressive.
I like how "gather X number of blood/horns/asses from mob" quests are 100% drops (so far that I've noticed).
Best way to do it is just set up an extra hotbar with all of them on it.
Beautiful. Thanks!
Also love how you can macro stuff like your class gearsets and just change on the fly (with a cooldown obviously) out in the field or whatever. Great for crafters. Mining all dat ore? Switch to Blacksmith/Goldsmith/Armorer, craft them into ingots, continue.
For 99% of these, the game is basically just treating them as "kill X monsters." Guess it just sounds better from a quest perspective to have an NPC ask you for items rather than always asking you to slaughter innocent Phurbles or whatever, lol. But yeah, random trash drops for low level quests can gtfo (hi2u FFXI).
Doing leves for first time, it was refreshing to have "own" mobs rather than competing. No pressure at all, if any.
Made 20 ash shortbows, npc'd them, unlock new crafts, bow recipe uses ash shortbows.
Aside from that personal fail, I'm absolutely loving the crafting system so far. When I need to craft a bow to make a bow and then I make an HQ bow I don't need to make a NQ bow I can just use the HQ one for a better chance at a HQ final product. It's something I always wanted in XI. I can't think of another MMO I've touched that had a crafting system that I can say is better than XIVs.
The cross requirements are also just right. As I'm approaching 20 with carpentry I find I need iron ingots, which would so happen to be the exact thing that my friend was crafting as his miner/blacksmith approached 20. It's a far cry from the level 10 craft ingredients being level 30 products like in 1.0. It's like they kept everything that had potential from the original system and then made it awesome.
