Still stuck on Hydra. Most people are from the LS but still having to pick up a dps and 2 healers + a tank from shouting. Last night bard just kept standing in the middle and sucked at dps. Our tanks don't have darklight and it's pretty tough keeping them up with the one move. Doesn't the damage get cut in half if you have two tanks stand in it? Or you all just have a well geared tank solo tank? It's a really easy fight and burning him down is no problem, but one person standing in the middle or a dps not focusing on adds just ruins it.
Triumvirate is a very shitty move, but yes, you can mitigate its damage through buffs & having other players in front. A good PLD with proper mitigation rotation should be able to survive it every time, but double healers would be optimal at that point I would think. Did it last night with PLD & WAR, and I was basically using Foresight every chance I got during his Triumvirate phases, of course it wasn't enough to keep up so had to make sure to spam HP drain moves.
I never had any problems with Hydra as WAR, honestly, and I ate most of them solo. Healers who are awake and decent HP pool and with an IB waiting and you can literally always eat it.
1/1 with a PUG for reference.
Shit. I feel like a nub now. What are the phases for him? I'm blm so i really don't notice much except when he starts spitting fire/ice, pops and add, fear, repeat? Trium looks basically like an instant cast anyhow. If I knew more about the phases I could coach the tanks a bit better how to rotate their buffs.
He goes apeshit after every Fire/Ice spit phase. So that's when you want to blow your buffs and concentrate healing.
Ok thanks. I'll let the group know.
If you want to avoid pugging a tank I had no problem solo tanking hydra and adds on PLD. The extra dps makes things go much quicker.
The current strat on Excalibur is to strafe around hydra the whole fight and avoid everything via spinning if all else fails lol
Well, they don't have to. It 'can' be necessary.
i solo tanked Hydra in full AF, shouldn't need to split triumvirate unless for some reason the tank doesn't even have that
Ok, nub question cuz I'm new to tanking, but say for his trim phase after the fire/ice, would you just pop sentinel, or maybe bulwark + foresight? This should probably be in a tanking thread but....
If i buy a champions lance now and have the materia added to it, and then use the weapon on my dragoon while working towards the rest of the relic. Can I still use the soulbound champions lance in the quest?
you won't be able to use the lance while working toward the rest of the relic since you have to turn in the lance in order to be eligible to do most of the rest of the questline.
Man I keep getting either good tanks /poor healers or poor tanks/ good healers for the Hydra fight. So frustrating.
I found Chimera to be a joke but Hydra, who everyone says is so much easier, just kept wrecking every party I was in. I'm on Excal though, so we ended up just throwing him on the spin cycle and actually won... it was entertaining at the least
For PLD relic quest, you get both sword/shield as a set upon completion right?
PLD gets both Sword/Shield at the end, yes.
