    So Obey/Steady/Guard are identical?

No. Steady and Guard are identical but the AI will depend on the mode the fairy is set in. If she's on Sic she'll spam everything otherwise she's limited to 2 abilities.

Steady Eos will not use Whispering Dawn, only Embrace. But once you order anything she goes into Guard.

Hmm this Obey thing seems exactly what I want. So in tough fights where you are concerned about knockback/building stun resistance/whatever you can just choose Obey without a large loss of DPS?

Fairy-wise since they heal you all the time no matter what they are set to that shouldn't be a concern (since their heals don't interfere with status effects/other heals) I'm ok with taking a slight dip in healing efficiency as long as I don't need to monitor the pet.

You want them on Obey BECAUSE having them do that other stuff is a loss of DPS. Their 3s cooldown attacks are their most powerful (excusing Enkindle). No need for Ifrit to waste a move on Radiant Shield, for Garuda to AoE a boss for less damage than Wind Blade, or for Garuda to Contagion with like 1 DoT.

Eos (heal fairy) I typically leave on Steady when I don't want her blowing her long cooldown buffs (regen/mdef/healpot+), then I turn her back "on" and let her do her own thing when a boss gets rough. For trash mobs or bosses that don't have an "easy" period I just leave her to her own devices all the time. I'd put her on Obey but it's really pointless when the thing I DON'T want her doing is the regen.

Selene you generally want on autopilot all the time because she'll do half of her buff cycle for you.

So, to answer myself the question of which DD pet was better I figured I'd get some raw data, stuck them both on a training dummy on Obey for a while and came back with:

Other than Ifrit's first AA being credited to me (just 1 54 dmg attack, would hardly effect the final result, I assume it's a bug with the log/parser) I can't think of any other flaws in the measurement for raw DPS.

I'm not sure why Ifrit's damage is less than Garuda's despite having the stronger potency attack, I assume it has to do with the fact that his damage is split between his "auto-attack" and his skill.

I don't see any reason to use Ifrit over Garuda for DD purposes, Garuda has the advantage in not having to close with enemies to begin attacking so it starts damage sooner, can be out of AoE range, and has a useful skill to use on command (Contagion).

Ifrit has to take the time to move into melee range each time you change targets, deal with AoE damage, and has no skills worth using manually except maybe Stun if you're really desperate (idk if he even reacts fast enough for it to be useful).

    Anyone have any other thoughts?

That seems about right. I was messing with both summons in Coerthas a while ago and noticed that Garuda's attacks hit harder than Ifrit by a noticeable amount on every mob in that region. I honestly haven't bothered with Ifrit since then, especially due to Contagion just being a really good skill to use. I would need to test to see just how much stats affect each of the Egis, if there is any difference at all.

Huh, wonder if you would actually have to pump STR (lol) for Ifrit to outpace Garuda.

Btw, I am being curious that is SCH more useful in Garuda fight?
Things like Succor, Sacred Soil helps mitigating damage taken.

I'm started to believe that pet helps mitigating the total damage from Garuda Rekoning move.

Does an Eye for an Eye mouseover macro that works, i put the exact same text in as my other mouseover macros but whenever i try to use the macro it says I used it incorrectly, honestly stumped on this one and it is the only move I don't have in a macro at the moment which is frustrating.

There's room for both WHM and SCH in any 8man so I don't understand the question.

If you're talking story Garuda then it's still a "doesn't matter" question. Easy enough that either can heal it.

Pets don't mitigate damage but the fairy can boost everyone's magic defense (assuming people are smart enough to gather around the SCH but I've yet to see that happen).

To be expected, depending on whether you have your 30 allotted in MND or INT. Weapon DMG makes the biggest impact of course and SMN only has a ~13 INT lead on a SCH's MND at 50 naked. (source)

Also as I look at those numbers again I do get the feeling Ifrit might be based on our STR which would be a reason Garuda outpaces him. Since we for some reason have 100 more STR than other DoM.
...Which means a gearswap for STR for Ifrit summoning might not be out of the question. Who's up for science?

Just test it with a STR pot, will make a very noticeable difference alone.

Anyone noticed that when the fairy obeys it doesn't move? I always have to heel my pet after obey, is that normal behaviour?

I have a suspicion it doesn't count buffs when making a stat check for summons. Just gear. Only basing this on that fairy didn't show any difference between having Cleric Stance on/off on resummoning. Maybe food/meds are an exception. But either way not available to check personally.

Simple STR rings vs no rings would suffice though.
