    Yoshi P Speech for launch

He gets pretty emotional, can't really blame him though since so much is riding on his shoulders. Also if this was posted before burn the thread with fire and purge machines.

    Translation off reddit:

    This is crazy.
Before I say anything, let me first start by saying that these 3 days we had intended to use for early-access were interrupted by emergency maintenance, which resulted in PC players in North America and Europe that were really looking forward to this missing out on a lot of play time, and I would like to use this part of the presentation, which is being broadcast worldwide, to apologize for that right now. We are truly sorry.
We are about to set out on a very long journey together, and as such, I would really do hope that I can redeem myself for that mistake.
    Uhm... <pause>
    "Do your best!"
Uhm... It has been about 3 years since I inherited this FFXIV project. At first, well, I had never been that involved with the game, but I thought, "I can probably do something with this." And ultimately, since I really enjoy the FF series myself, I gathered the staff and we discussed the idea of re-making the game.
I remember it even now, it was December 1st and we were in a studio just like this, and the mixer room was just above me. And they were adjusting the mic that I was to use. That whole scene really left an impression on me. I was right there with the players thinking, "Can we really save this? This will be no small task."
One by one folks started giving us their support, even those people who firmly believed that it would take at least 4 to 5 years to create a solid MMORPG. We didn't waste a second and did our best not to rush the work and take our time during the planning process, we would say when handling the companies day-to-day affairs that our company is the tank. We stayed out in the front and we kept moving forward, and eventually came this far.
I can't even take credit for the creation of FFXIV:ARR. It really was thanks to the fans worldwide, our core staff here beside me, and the hundreds of other staff members who contributed but were unable to make it here tonight that we made it this far.
Honestly, I did not plan on crying here tonight, but for us, finally, FFXIV can start the first step of its true rebirth. This is no time to take a rest. We will keep focused on the next patch, the next expansion, and continue at full strength. And really, I'd like to address those FFXIV community members who I'm sure faced criticism from their friends about the fact that they stuck with FFXIV despite all its problems, to us, this 2.5, 3 years went by so quickly, but for the players it was such a long wait. Everyone at Square Enix can truly say that their hard work helped to repair any damage done to the Final Fantasy name. It is not a perfectly finished MMORPG, but we all arrived at this point together. We created this game together. We want to make this an unforgettable entry in the series that we all enjoy together and are still playing 5 years or even 10 years from now, and that all starts today.
    Thank you very much.

I really felt for the man... the hero that led the team that saved FFXIV.
As someone who was pretty skeptical from the beginning and didn't touch the game barely a month into 1.0's launch, i've been totally won over by the effort they put in. for all its (very few) shortcomings, XIV is stellar. And its finally here after the years of hard work and effort.

    Kudos.

hated the shit outta 1.0 after its first 2 months. ARR has me hook line and sinker playing the shit outta it. this time it feels like a real mmo instead of halfassed. shits making me question hardcore why the hell i'm playing 11 still lol

It's terrible that the servers are painting a bad image on the game, which on it's own is pretty amazing.

If you jumped by a decade ago... hell, even three years ago when 1.0 was out, if you told me that a Director of FFXIV or FFXI got on stage and cried and thank their fans for their support, I truly would've laughed. That's how stark in contrast that Yoshi-P and his Dev Team is in comparison to the Square Enix of Old, which would've remained extremely business-like and highly professional.

You can tell from that speech that this isn't a joke to him, and he's been working his ass off along with his staff. He truly wants to make this a great game, and you can tell he fears the future, and what could happen if things doesn't go well. I hope his fears will be put to rest when the servers are stable and everyone can fully enjoy the game.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Feel so bad for yoshi p. Like others said, if it weren't for the server issues, I would say this is one of the best "new" mmos I've tried in the past 5~ years. Ya there are some tweaks that still need to be made (AH), but overall the game is really really polished.

I think gameplay will speak for itself, and while sadly they may lose some customers over the server issue, I think they'll have more than enough of a playerbase to not go the way of many mmos (f2p).

fwiw, on Ridill (jp legacy server), my husband had a longer queue time than I did on an na legacy server this morning. Which means it's definitely got a lot of jp trying it out, and they didn't have to experience the 3102 madness.

So if anything the jp will help keep it alive until more na are willing to give it a chance if it starts getting a better reputation once the servers get sorted out.

Godspeed Yoshi-P. It's good to see some emotion come from the people behind these projects from time to time. So much effort poured into a project with so much riding on the line.

Mad feels for the guy, I'm glad the game has turned out the way it has for him, I'm enjoying the content given to me a lot and it feels like a true MMORPG to me and will probably be the next big time sink that I can give into and actually enjoy. Depending on how the PVP turns out, this game has the potential to take my absolute favorite MMORPG experience away from DAoC.

There are somethings I wish they had kept from 1.0 to ARR but understand why they removed what they did and tweeked what unlocked jobs and disciplines. I hope this game is here to stay and is given the attention it so desperately wants.

Pretty close to how I feel as well. He has truly poured his heart into this and it shows, no doubt in my mind it will at least balance out all the damage (financially) from 1.0's cycle and release. If his (and his teams) effort is not rewarded in the long term, thats a damn shame.

I hope he stays with SE for a while past ARR, he energy and devotion would be ideal to bring a few certain I.P.'s Square has neglected back in style. Yoshida and Nomura are the future of the company.

I wasn't a huge fan of 1.0 at all. I played it for Legacy Status, hoping the re-release would be big. I have been very impressed with the Dev Team's openness throughout the entire rebuilding project. It sucks that server issues put a slight dampening on the release. SE needs to make damn sure they keep all of these guys/girls on the payroll for a while for sure.

I just wanna give him a hug!!! Echoing what others have said but you truly can tell how much heart and soul went into this and to me that alone makes it a huge success since i haven't really seen that level dedication to a game in years, this man and his team have really done the impossible and i can only see things getting even more epic than it is already.

Yeah server issues aside i'v yet to find anything i'm not amazed by with this game so far. 1.0 was enjoyable in small small parts but was severely lacking. What they have done with ARR is short of amazing. Had a few WoW/TERA friends start playing due to my pestering and now they can't stop due to just the storyline. One remarked "So this is what a MMO with a story feels like?"

I alpha tested 1.0, so from coming full circle to now, watching the game for the past 3 years, reading the developer letters, i have to say it gets me in the feels when see people on reddit raging about the server issues that will eventually get solved.

I sometime feel embarrassed to be in the NA community because of how people act. This game is good, period. I hope that the community stabilizes and we can enjoy this for a long time to come. Ever since leaving behind my 8 years in 11 I've been looking for a new home, GW2, Tera, and others just haven't hit the spot till now with 14.

    I don't speak the language but even I teared up a bit... Hit me right in the feels. It's gotta be gut-wrenching to be put into his position and finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. ;____;
