Connection lost to web but not games, requires reboot.

Google is failing me on this as well as my techy/IT friends. It's a strange issue.

Basically, sit down at PC after an afk while in a game and vent. Talking in vent, playing game, no problems. Try to open a website and get a not connected to internet error or something. Troubleshoot and cant connect to microsoft.com or something. Everything says its plugged in, everything says its up and running. Nothing will fix it except restarting and eventually I will lose connection to vent at the minimum, not sure about game.

This has happened several times, kind of annoying. It just happened again today. I left a game open all day and went to work. I came home and sat down, no websites would load including flash chat. The game was still open, running, I could read game chat, talk, move around, it was fine.

My computer is not set to sleep nor have display shut off when this happens. No hibernate enabled. No nothing. I don't get it.

What browser? Is offline mode checked? Proxy settings clear? Reset the browser.

    Chrome. Not sure about proxy.

Just a note it's not just the browser that loses connection. It's like a very slow full disconnect, but the first thing I lose is my browser. Eventually vent will DC and then the Game but it takes some time. I'll try another browser but I don't think that's the root. Think of it as a 10+ minute disconnect lol. Apps fall one by one starting with browser. If I try to open a game it won't load either, but the game I'm in won't DC until several minutes later.

Lol not dns. Even of you change your dns server in the middle of playing a game you won't get dc'd.

This is going to be difficult to trouble shoot remotely. There are lots of things I'd like to try while it's dc'd but obviously I can't

This happens to me all the time if I don't restart after windows downloads and installs updates. It likes to shut off internet browsing and nothing else!

It doesn't happen often enough for me to really try and troubleshoot with help either. If I catch it early enough, I'm still in vent/game/bgchat and I can ask for help, but it's like once every week to 3.

Sounds quite similar to the problem my family had with our internet connection over the last year. Active connections to games, teamspeak and messengers still worked, but all other traffic that required new connections failed. For us the only thing that helped was resetting the DSL modem each time. DNS is not related, used Googles servers for several weeks and it still happened.
I'm almost 100% sure it's some kind of fault with our DSL connection, especially since it happens SO unregularely. Sometimes several times a week, sometimes not once for months. Already called our provider, but they only tried to sell us a new modem/router.

This was my experience at times with my previous ISP. Switched to a new provider earlier this year, haven't had it once.
Usually when I had the problem, and reset my router, it results in a dead connection until something on the provider's end fixes itself 15 minutes later.

Interesting. Never heard of this issue but it seems pretty popular here. With the connection 'down' try running tracert or pinging google or something and post the results.
