And like Viena says, it doesn't seem to be consistent, you can be dodging everything to a point and then suddenly you start getting hit for no reason, during the same encounter.

The problem is not fixed, it just isn't as bad as it was during P3.

    Yes it is not fixed

I can avoid most, but some mobs give me more trouble than others.

I quit and gave my account to a friend because of this stuff, design choices aside (such as the gimmicky dodge-this-oneshotting-AoE mechanic being literally EVERYWHERE in the game, the overly formulaic, uncompromising and strictly vertical gear progression and getting past contents being a matter of "ilvl" rather than a testament of skill, teamwork and creativity/outside-the-box thinking), this is the single game-breaking issue that didn't let me enjoy the game as much as I hoped I would.

Playing from EU, I kept getting hit by a couple AoE's per run on average despite being extra-careful about them, simply because EU players are subject to humongous latencies (due to the fact that servers, even the one labelled as "EU" are actually in Canada - go figure).

    I play twitch shooters, beat em ups and an insanely fast and technical 2D soccer game all day and I'm super-good at them but this has nothing to do with reflexes or focus...plenty of times the mob's casting bar doesn't even fill up halfway through, disappears on a whim and the AoE/Line attack just goes off (or worse, it pops up halfway filled, effectively leaving no room for any sort of evasion maneuver whatsoever), Repel on Demon Wall doesn't even spawn a bar most of the time (also, seemed to affect your player depending on the direction the character faced like 3-4 seconds prior to the attack going off), the Cyclop's AoE in that FATE in Coerthas only projects a red area on the ground 4-5 times out of 10 depending on lag and the bar is glitchy as heck and so forth;

...which means that, in order to play my role properly, I had to recognize and memorize the attacks patterns, keep track of how many seconds passed in between attacks and get away in advance (or unequip the weapon and stand there doing nothing, like Vs the demon wall) when the attack was likely to get used, all in all kind of retarded and unreliable seeing as it didn't work all the time (and then I get blamed for being a "shitty tank" by undergeared DD's whose DPS score was below mine, fuck that).

The issue isn't as crippling as it was in Phase 3 (although nothing used to hit as hard as some endgame bosses do in the final game) but it's there and it does make a difference in endgame, a big one at that, I definitely ain't paying for this shit until they sort it out.

The problem is a lot better since last week maintenance for me, I couldn't dodge for shit, the game kept stopping and fast forwarding every few seconds and AoEs were basically unavoidable no matter how far you ran.

There's another maintenance tomorow, the issue is not completely gone yet but I hope it gets better as weeks go by and they improve stability/performance of their servers, there's bound to be some latency for obvious reasons but not so much that it makes the game unplayable, I get 160-170ms ping to SE's servers in Montreal and prior the maint it felt like I had near 1000.

Lucky you, since after last maint from the delay I had at every hour besides 1to 6 a.m. gmt +2 I have 5 to 8 sec delay at best after maint.
I'm hoping they do something serious tomorrow, I'm riding the last days of free trial I think, and I'm sure not sold on a laggy game, fun thing I could understand if it was only me but I have the technical forums on constant watch, plenty more people having the issue and even worse ones...And I still have 100 ping, even managed to get the ragnarok server ip pinging 90 during a 6 sec lagspike in game, definitely something is horribly wrong and my isp won't act further unless square confirms that they aren't sucking(and they're damn right on my 4th ticket to ask more info, since they work perfectly with everything else)

wish they didn't screw up further the game for me, can only use crafting classes right now and thank god I'm a nocturnal beast so I can sometimes play at 4 a.m. ç_ç

I also noticed that, depending on the hours the lag can be way worse.

During EU morning till late afternoon it plays quite smooth, not many lagspikes and such, by 6 PM (GMT+2) you start to notice it's getting worse (EU Prime starts), at midnight when EU players are still playing and NA are logging in it starts to get progressively worse D:

But not even close to what it was previous monday's maintenance.

It took them a while to even give us North American servers, so can we all be glad that at the very least we're not forced to connect soley to Japan?

Invictus it's the first sub mmo since wow not to have dedicated european servers in the actual region . So we're supposed to be happy SE has only half shitty EU support instead of complete shit? I'm not paying sub till they fix this crap.

Being a Paladin who's picked to be on stun duty more than not, this sucks quite a bit.
Then again, I hear even NA people complain about this.
    It's more than "just" distance.

Yeah, it's also just plain bad netcode, but (I'll bring it up again) it really is unacceptable to not provide regional servers located in their actual region. This is only doubly true in a game where 90% of the difficulty is in avoiding telegraphed AoE with very little leeway. This isn't Everquest where everything is targeted and has an 8sec cast time, it's really just straight up amateurish and below reasonable standards in 2013 to design a game where the PvE is entirely reaction-based and then fail so utterly at providing a decent connectivity service. Bad netcode and bad server infrastructure in what might be the one MMO that demands low lag more than any other in the history of the genre. I mean, literally every single mob in the entire game has an AoE you're meant to dodge. It's bizarre, like the thing they needed to focus the most on was actually the thing they put the least effort into. Takes the piss, really.

What gets me is the gcd/nongcd abilities. I use swiftcast > fire III and it's not an instant cast. It's swiftcast > wait 2s > fire III(instant). Or like last night running AK with a new healer I popped mana wall > got the buff on screen but the next physical attack killed me. SE dropped the ball on this shit.

Hmm... Yeah it is kind of lame that gcd kind of bones swift cast. However it's still great for quick res or quick pet summon on SMN.

Not just the latency but having to fight the lag spikes as well is getting beyond a joke even on things not Titan. Random lag spikes on Demon Wall where repel is delayed by 2 seconds is beyond annoying where my group had multiple instances of it today since the server it on seems to be so overloaded.

Had it once or twice yeah where I'd use hallowed ground. It'd go off on my screen before gtting hit, but still died and it took my cooldown.
And this was on hits that it would have normally negated.

Buff and debuff application seems a bit delayed, yeah. I see this most often when:

SMN Dot rotation ending in Bio > Fester; you need to wait for the Bio debuff to pop up before it "counts".
SCH Succor'ing everyone after Titan jumps or stomps; depending on timing everyone seems to get healed, wait half a sec, then Adloquium shield buff applies.

This problem seems a bit more magnified in duty finder instances, though in the opposite direction it seems like people go from (accept raise > teleport+revive) much faster in an instance.

Those are intentional though, they designed the game like this.

this is quiet noticable. I have had runs where I could dodge everythign as a healer and then i had the same dungeon and was able to dodge shit, even tough my reaction time and moveing were the same. I am confused, depending on which hour I play it is random luck if I dodge stuff or not. i have literally died once form a conal attack when moveing counterclockwise on the backside of the mob. And then there are times where I dont have any problem at all.

Whoever who's having latency issues should try this out:

It made a world of difference for me.

I did that manually through the register and reseted the router to factory settings on the 9th, which was also the same day as SE did the maintenance to "improve" their servers, I don't know which one did the trick, but my latency was much better, in fact, it allowed me to beat/avoid titan HM AoEs without much effort three days later.
