    Aggro mechanics

So, didn't see a topic on this yet. Some questions/stuff I've noticed :

    1. A guildie of mine says that walking causes less aggro than running or being on a chocobo. I.e, enemies that would aggro you normally might not if you are walking. Never noticed this myself (I don't often walk) but can anyone confirm?

    2. Enemies don't seem to aggro you if you are at least 6 levels higher than them.

    3. FF14 seems to use at least some of the sight/sound/scent aggro mechanics of FF11, but I haven't been able to test some of them, like whether walking through water throws off the aggro of scent-based enemies. Also no confirmation of true sight mobs yet.

    Feel free to add/ask more!

    1. Not sure

    2. I've had level 40-41 mobs aggro at 50 so it probably depends on your level.

    3. Some mobs I've noticed that are definitely sight aggro only are the tonberries in Wanderer's Palace. A lot of them you can just run behind them as close as you want and they don't aggro.

Yeah I realized my estimate of 6 levels was off. I think more research is needed.

Haven't actually seen scent aggro yet, but sight and sound are definitely there.

Seems like the aggro mechanics are identical to 1.0's. Sight works the same way that I can tell, and sound aggro is bypassed by walking. It was a very necessary thing to walk in some areas to bypass Lv?? mobs in the Black Shroud that would 1-shot you for 9999 if you wanted to farm certain items or do quests. Those treants in particular come to mind for me. Same with getting certain aetherial gates.

At 50 I would still get agro from 40 mobs so I'm going to guess 11 levels below is when things stop.

Not played 1.0 thoroughly but can anyone confirm Sneak vs Invisible agro ?

Also haven't seen any confirmed true sight agro yet

What Sneak/Invis? There's only Stealth on Gather classes which always works unless enemies are over the specified level. Unless I'm missing an obvious thing.

Is there a comprehensive list somewhere of what the various mob aggro icons mean?

I have been looking myself for what all the icons mean (players and monster) and haven't been able to find out anything solid.

I asked about the blue nuclear/snowflake monster icon and someone said it means they link and agro, which isn't true.
Also asked about the red swords player icon and someone said it meant their in battle. But I see some people with it who are just standing in a sanctuary. Same goes with the chocobo icon.

Yeah, I have heard a lot of inconsistent reports about what the aggro icons mean.

The only thing I know for sure:

    mob - blue face = non-aggro
player - red chair = away
player - red sweaty face = busy
player - red swords = guildleve
player - film strip = watching cutscene
    player - red circle/line = disconnecting
player - blue hexagon with a rectangle on it (?) - registered with duty finder
player - red/yellow play symbol in brackets = in instance

Yeah the icons can be pretty confusing, player and enemy both. Like film strip I think everyone understands, but I see this water droplet thing next to some mobs and I can't make head nor tail of it.

Is that the one that looks like a welder's mask? Been wondering what it was all week. Thanks.

    To add to this...

    mob - blue face = non-aggressive
mob - red face = aggressive
mob - blue spiky thing = non-aggressive quest mob
mob - red spiky thing = aggressive quest mob

For "quest" mobs, there are usually only a very small amount of them (like 1-3), and they only spawn in a very specific location and serve a specific purpose for one quest.

"Quest mob" is also 90% of the time "use a quest item on it, dumbass".
