Something that has come up a few times for me : I try to apply a DoT and I get a message along the lines of "Touch of Death has no effect!" or somesuch.
We can't rewrite DoTs? Or is it because the original DoT was applied under the effect of a buff?

How are you telling me this when I literally just went to a monster, popped PB, did Arm of the Destroyer and got a silence effect. Same thing with Dragon Kick.
People need to stop spouting bullshit and actually pay attention to what's going on. If it's a bug for some people then that's another issue, but PB works fine.
There's not many situations in Coil where you aren't basically fighting a training dummy until Turn 5.
Meaning you should do static no dodge DPS for most of it. You have to move a bit for ADS but not enough to lose anything but some auto attacks.
Your ToD is not doing 2000-3000 damage, a single tick is never going to do 300. Even all 3 of your DoTs critting at once would be lucky to hit 300. You probably saw an auto-attack, not your DoTs.
All 3 (Fracture, Demolish and ToD) tick for 85 potency combined. Snap Punch is 180 so you're looking at a little under half your Snap Punch damage on average (per tick with all 3 going). I actually have no idea how stacked DoTs crit though, if it checks for crits individually it'd be pretty rare to see all 3 crit at once, but if it's just a single check you may actually see some that high. It's really fucking difficult to even see DoT numbers during genuine combat, especially since crits don't show in larger text/with ! like auto-attacks and WS do.
Finally did some tests and you are absolutely correct, I was mistaken. I assumed those crits were from DoT because that was the only thing that made sense, but those crits must be just basic attacks that sneak in with no animation or it happens so fast you miss it. So my dmg from normal hits crit up to 300*
Yeah, you're completely right. Must've been an one off bug I experienced, never bothered to go back and test, oops. With that being said, PB still is flawed in that it doesn't actually put you in any form while it's up. Even ending PB with a Twin Snakes doesn't put you in it's respective form. Take in account this behavior, it's not hard to see how it's a misconception that spamming AOTD with PB up doesn't cause silence.
I've gotten pretty decent at:
a) avoiding damage
and
b) dealing damage
but still kind of suck at
c) doing both at the same time consistently.
In an effort to alleviate this, I went out and bought a Razer Naga. It's a bit tough getting used to it, as I only really ever used the keyboard for MMOs up until today.
What I need is some ideas on hotbar layouts that will work well with a MMO mouse for MNK, if anyone wants to share. Best I can come up with is using 1~6 for the main damage abilities, and CTRL/Shift 1~6 for lesser used stuff (but I'm finding that to be sloppy and uncomfortable)... stuff like Fists of Fire/Earth, Items and Limit Breaks, I just throw at the end since they're seldom used compared to stuff like ToD/Bootshine, etc...
EDIT: An idea I might play with is instead of going 1: Bootshine, 2: Twin Snakes, 3: Demolish (new line), 4: Bootshine, 5: True Strike, 6: Snap Punch .... maybe switching to 1/4/7/10 > 2/5/8/11 to be something similar to ToD/Bootshine/TwinSnakes/Demolish > Fracture/Bootshine/TrueStrike/SnapPunch with 3/6/9/12 being something like Haymaker/SteelPeak/SecondWind/Featherfoot (or whatever, maybe just click the hotbars for buffs and keep the mouse buttons all offensive)...
Same as any other picture of my UI, but this is with a g110/g500
So anyone who bought/crafted gryphonskin tried to find out caps? I know str is pretty much capped right away but I wonder if you can hit the caps of crit/accuracy/skillspeed or if you can just materia whatever you want in them(or at least like III in 100% slots and II in all forbidden slots and not hit cap). Few people mentionned the having the armor but didn't see any info on caps.
Same questions has everybody
1) What to change Full DL? (Currently do LWR cannot craft gryphonskin and if i could I do not have the money for Materias atm so full DL?
2) Once again rotations advice?
3) Can this gear be fine to do titan? or Up to titan for relic
Materia wise (HQ pieces)
Gryphon Jerkin caps out at 24 crit total of 24 crit
Gryphon Gloves cap out at 10 crit total of 22 crit
Gryphon Belt caps out at 0 crit total of 12 crit
Gryphon Legs cap out at 0 crit total of 27 crit
Gryphon Boots cap out at 12? total of 12 crit. I put a question mark because I do not remember trying for a 3rd materia on these.
So these pieces give 97 crit, again I am missing the head piece and ring.
1. I find the accessories to be the best pieces to get first, even though I didn't do it myself. Reason being that if you can get Melds, you should get Melds for certain pieces, especially the pants. That said, full DL isn't that terrible comparatively and is technically free. You just have to lose part of your soul by running CM like 50+ times.
2. Rotations are situational because they're constantly changing all the time based on the number of mobs you're fighting and whether or not you're forced to move. Just have a general game plan and you should be fine.
As a general rule you can use the following 3:
Perfect Balance for fast GL3 + DoTs: ToD xx Perfect Balance > Snakes or DK > Snap > Snap > Optional Snap > Demolish > Fracture > Start Rotation
Pre-GL3: DK > Snakes > Snap or Demolish > ToD or Fracture > Bootshine > Snakes > Demolish or Snap > Fracture or ToD
Post-GL3: DK > Snakes > Snap or Demolish > ToD or Fracture > Bootshine > True > Demolish or Snap > Fracure or ToD
Can also start both of those with ToD but you lose a bit of DPS cause you don't have Snakes...but it will make your rotation go smoother
3. No lie, I beat Titan with just DL Belt and I still didn't find it hard. Your DPS will suck but it can be done. In all honesty MNK is easy mode on that fight as long as your tank isn't stupid and your healers know how to position. Just don't get hit.
Edit: Fixed the PB Setup. Forgot a move.
Your gear is fine to do Titan with. If you can keep your GL3 stacks and DoT's up while dodging mechanics you'll find yourself one of the highest DPS. Generally most players lose track of their shit ~1.5 minutes into a fight because they tunnel vision mechanics too much.
My PB opener is usually: TotD > PB > Demolish > Snap > Snap > Twins > DK > Fracture. You need to be quick to fit 5 actions within your PB timer (generally why getting GL stacks up is so important since it reduces your GCD). No idea if applying Demolish earlier or later is better, but it probably wouldn't matter too much. I generally try to get all my DoT's rolling sooner rather than later.
