Since you're going to test for min/max WS damage and not DPS, if the piece has extra SS/Acc/Crit it doesn't matter as long as its 2 STR ~ 10 DTR or something like that because it wont affect the damage per hit you do

I'd also wouldn't use cooldowns like BfB so you get a more "stable" sample.

Good to know. Wasn't intending on using B4B or IR after Niiro's post. Just a simple repeating macro of Dragon Kick => Twin Snakes => Snap Punch.

Now all I gotta do is get the damn Ultima Choker. My group looked at me like I had two heads when I said I wanted to farm Ultima. When I said I wanted Striking Choker they were like "But you're full i90! Y U NEED CHOKER!?"

Hey everyone. At release I was thinking of going Monk as there were no thief/rogue options but I had opted to try my hand at tanking instead.
I took a 2 month break, but have my PLD up to ilvl 78 and figured nows a time to go DPS. I had a brd to 32 but got bored, so switched to MNK and have him 31 so far in about a week and a half.
What sort of habits should I focus on now, stat weights, etc.
What moves are absolute garbage, situational, mandatory, etc.
And cross skills, still B4B worth getting Lancer up?
So far I almost have a full DL armor set waiting, need legs/jewelry and just a GC 55 weapon.

All STR obviously for stats. Crit & Det afterwards. Just get used to strafing between Flank and Rear damage positions for bonus potency. The smoother you can do it, the better you'll be off in the long run.

MNK is kinda hard cause almost every move in their arsenal is useful except for One Ilm Punch and Fists of Wind.

    Situational moves:
Arm of the Destroyer - In Opo Stance, you can use it to interupt High Voltage in Coil if a Bard is down. Don't rely on it all the time but you can use it to stop things.
Rockbreaker - AoE spam with Perfect Balance to get 3 stacks and DPS down tons of adds
Fists of Earth - I use it before Astral Flow to cut down some damage before going back to Fists of Fire
Mantra - ^ also Fireballs from Twintania. Smart Mantra usage makes you stand out I find amongst the normal MNKs.

    Subjob moves:
    Invigorate - Mandatory
    Blood For Blood - Mandatory
    Fracture - Mandatory
Mercy Stroke - Off GCD Burst move. Super useful for killing Fast Conflags and Clutch Gaols in Titan Extreme. I wouldn't say Mandatory but it's really strong and better than a lot of other options but I can see the case for not using it.
Foresight/Bloodbath - I strongly prefer Foresight as it allows you to survive things you normally can't survive (Wicked Wheel on Garuda Ex for example if your gear isn't above i86). Bloodbath offers a different kind of survivability. It's basically preference. I don't get hit, so there's no reason for me to restore HP.

Hold off on DL Legs. They're garbage. Just get HQ Gryphonskin legs. You can get the mats to make them for almost the same amount of Philo as it takes to get the pants.

Has anyone switch to back heavy rotation?!? Since 2.1?

I'm ilvl85 mnk & I feel my dps on parser should be higher. For ex on Garuda EX I was well below other dps (even a drg)

No, since a good amount of your moves depend on being at flank. Garuda is difficult for melee dps, there's also the fact that low aoe damage and potential means you won't parse as high (and garuda likes to spin around a fuckload) and jumps make keeping GL up a pain.

You just need more experience with the fight since my DPS was terrible until I got to know it better.

I dunno what would be considered "back heavy"; with the changes to Twin Snakes duration you should easily be able to alternate Dragon Kick / Twin Snakes with the rear moves from my understanding. The days of lazymode flank combos should be long gone.

On my rotation I normal do 2 flank combo to apply my dots then switch to back til dragon kick is over .

I was thinking of only doing flank to apply dragon kick then everything else back combo

You will be hurting your own DMG if use don't use twin snakes and snap on the flank

I pretty much just DK > TwS > SP > BS > TS > D > F, repeat. Throw in ToD as needed, as well as stuff like Howling, Steel Peak and Mercy Stroke.

Mainly I despise the Subligar, hence I didn't get it. I figured I'd wear the Peltast breeches or some such.
So as of now I actually have a full DL set minus the Pants. Which other categories besides pants would Gryphonskin exceed? Also I only have 1 DL ring, so Gryphon good for the other slot as well?

Fists of Wind has a purpose - running around town! One Ilm Punch? Not so much. (though I sure wish it did. Bruce Lee love and all that)

I am a lazy monk who just DPSes from flank fulltime. Yeah, not optimum I know.

I love subligar! (on female characters of course)

This was passable pre-2.1, but not anymore. The buffs to Bootshine, True Strike and Demolish are all pretty huge, and you're missing out on a lot of damage.

Granted, some fights it might be wise to just stay on the flank, especially if you're new to the fight, or there are mechanics that prevent you from moving to the rear. It took me a good deal of Titan HM experience before I was willing to use a rear rotation on him after heart phase.

For mobs with nasty rear attacks, a lot of them seem to have cool downs on the moves, so you can trigger the move, dodge it, then continue with your rear rotation. I think Caduceus is an example of this. Same with the Valefors in CT.

On Turn 1 ADS, I'm still reluctant to use a rear rotation, because there is very little room to get out of Repelling Cannon, and that fight requires me to switch to legacy controls, which I'm still very clumsy with (aside from using them to gtfo of nasty AoE, they suck for flank/rear rotation - in my opinion).

I'm using One Ilm punch on haukke's manor HM boss to erase the double stoneskin.

Sorry, it was late and I meant rear not flank. Because only 1 move gets a bonus from flank if I'm not mistaken?

Snap Punch and Twin Snakes both get a flank bonus. Granted I'm not 50 but I've been using both pretty regularly soooooooo

And Dragon Kick, apparently, according to XIVDB

Also Fists of Wind's primary purpose is Sylph Dailies

Flank: Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes, Snap Punch
    Rear: Bootshine, True Strike, Demolish

Doing either rear-only or flank-only is going to end up with you doing shitty damage.
