One of those is much more effective than the other. I'm sorry if I'm whining about something I'd like to see executed better, but at least I'm whining about a new game, as opposed to folks whining in this thread irrationally about an old game no one is even praising (let done playing).
I mean, do you think they could do more to promote working together outside of instances at low and mid levels? Or is this the best they can possibly do? The game is very fun; I think it could be more fun with some incentives for that.
I met a nice person in a dungeon yesterday. Then the dungeon ended and I'll more than likely never see them again. It's pretty lame, but I think we can all agree that that aspect of the game could use some adjustments. It was cool meeting good/nice players in ffxi parties, or wow dungeons before cross-realm stuff was implemented, since you could always play/talk to them again.
Tons in this thread have given you how they promote working together. (You'll get more xp/hour in fate parties, leve parties, etc.) The problem is you sticking your fingers in your ears saying "that's not good enough!"
Why?
They don't need to do more. It's already there. You just refuse to see it for w/e reason.
Lol it's not already there, FATE parties don't promote teamwork or interaction, they promote doing the same exact thing you'd do solo in a group. And that doesn't start until much later in the game.
But okay, that's great you think the game is just fine at lower levels at promoting interaction. Some people disagree. To use your line, there's no reason to stick your fingers in your ears and insist they're wrong.
Because Arch has never experienced it, it clearly doesn't exist. The opposite also rings true: because Arch enjoyed it in XI, it must be the best or only. The millions of players in other games having a smashing time clearly don't know what they've missed.
Damn, and those 3 new entrants to my FC from teaming up on random FATE bosses were so cool, too. I guess they're an illusion or something.
This thread isn't that bad, I just forgot that Arch, aka. Mr. Timeout, was here shitting it up.
Perhaps YOU are the problem. Your party quiet? Then break the ice. It's almost like....real life social interactions. It's very easy for me to make friends even in /sh (god forbid, right) because I have a positive (and often sarcastic) tone in creating and continuing conversations past the general "Hello" introduction.
Guys listen... You're just old... Old men (and women?) The game isn't holding you back from being sociable, you just don't remember how to make friends or maybe you really don't even care to. The game has to the tools for you to do so, you're just not forced to. Some of you want to be forced. Force yourselves. Otherwise, just quit MMOs b/c you're probably too old anyways.
The game doesn't accommodate enough social interaction yet. Key word is 'yet' since we're here at launch, barely two weeks into the game. PVP, WvW, Gold Saucer etc are all queued up and have a chance to push alot of friend-making in a way that isn't being in Tanaka's labor camps.
FATEs are largely solo ventures and you're never really encouraged to group up or die since they're meant to be very casual and stress-free, Odin/Behemoth withstanding. Dungeons are cross server and friends made still return to their respective servers once the victory fanfare plays. Storymode is built like any offline FF adventure for solo play and playing DoL/H takes you further into solo territory as you don't really need a cache of friends to supply you with materials.
Even simple question asking isn't really required as the game does a damn good job of explaining most things to you. If you've come from a previous MMO then it's even easier as many of the terms and systems are lifted directly from other titles. Don't know how to gear? The game hands out rewards. Don't understand movement? It's explained.
I think the only thing that destroyed community on other MMOs is the ability to easily change your name and making numerous alts. You could be a cockmonger and then just name change/server transfer or make an alt and no one would be the wiser. in FFXI, because it was such a time investment, if you were a douchenozzle to everyone and their mother, your name was known and you were effectively ostracized by the community meaning that you couldn't do much of anything.
In that way it helped reign in people, who because they get their hands on a keyboard attached to the internet flip a shit and go full asbergers mode
actually, it should be noted that it's a lot harder to be a dick in other mmos compared to ffxi.
being a dick in other mmos has been reduced to xbox-style shouts of "you suck" and training mobs before getting kicked out of a dungeon/raid (which the person would then get replaced immediately).
So even if you couldn't change names, I don't think people would care that much about the douchebags.
That doesn't mean its harder, they just like creativity in dickishness lol
How do FATE's not promote interaction and teamwork? Yeah I guess if you're talking about FATES where 50000 people fucking drop down and AoE everything in 2 seconds, but i've started conversations with at least 3 people from FATES just in the past 2 days. Grow a pair and talk to people. I thank people who actually heal my ass as a tank on FATES or joke with other tanks that were there.FATE parties don't promote teamwork or interaction
