I doubt it, I mentioned it somewhere before but gun is most likely getting it's own class since it's already got a guild spot setup.

So far no jobs have guilds of their own, and LL is the only city with 2 classes instead of 3.

Just roll Ranger into Beastmaster and call it a day. Both want to have a niche as the 'in tune with nature' class and that can include pets, tracking and whatever other lay of the land themed abilities the devs can come up with. Give it an axe and let 'er rip.

Since this game won't accommodate full support classes, give us a gun-oriented Musketeer -> Corsair.

I'm really curious in what direction they could go with alternate jobs to Monk/Dragoon/Warrior/etc. that would make their roles as different from each other as Scholar and Summoner. Arcanist seems to have been specifically designed to conveniently allow the class to by pried in two via Summon/Summon II pulling out completely different pets with completely different skills of their own without any Trait or other explanation. This doesn't seem possible without having a cheap way to go about it like pet skillsets.

What could they even do to other melee classes to make them function/play much more different than their existing jobs? When Dragoon only really adds a couple jump attacks to the class... what would they even have as an alternate (Samurai? Templar?) and what could they even bring to the Lancer skillset to set them apart?
Consider the shift (in effectiveness instead of focus, granted) from MRD > WAR from the whole Wrath mechanic. A secondary resource like that and/or some form of toggle that changes up the class (Cleric Stance does this to an extent) is also possible. Also consider that SCH gets a massive amount of points in MND and that only puts them about even with their INT from being ACN. So "offshoot" jobs certainly have the potential to focus in radically different areas.

    Potentially dumb ideas follow.

Hypothetical 1: Fencer (DPS) becomes Red Mage (DPS) or Rune Fencer (Tank). RF gets a ton of VIT to compensate for its new role.
Hypothetical 2: Lancer becomes Templar. Gets a thing at Job30 that grants self's Bloodbath/Life Surge-like healing effects to nearby party members; gets MND boost for cure potency but possibly not actually get access to Cure/Physick and instead have some other way of spending MP.

Kinda wondering what other jobs the melee classes might have in the future. Like, what becomes Samurai for instance. Lancer? What does Pugilist become other than Monk? There weren't any other fist-based classes in 11. Gladiator could become...dunno, Rune Fencer or something?

And the $64 million dollar question...what class would Red Mage be based on?

I wouldn't be surprised if skills were changed with the job you had equipped. Gladiator skills could increase offense instead of defense for example. As for finding a way to make Conjurer a non-healing job, I'm pretty stumped.

As for the second job for each class, here's my prediction.
    Marauder: Berserker/ Beast Master
    Gladiator: Dark Knight
    Pugilist: Dancer/ Thief
    Archer: Ranger
    Lancer: Samurai
    Thautamurge: Necromancer
    Conjurer: Blue Mage?

expanding on this because Ive been brainstorming it for a while (all of this is hypothetical) and taking some ideas from above:

Musketeer (Rifle DPS) > Corsair (Rifle or dual pistols DPS + Buffs ala Bard)
Fencer (Cutlas/Longsword) (DPS) > Red Mage (DPS + buffs ala scholar faeries) or Rune Fencer (Tank)
Thief (DPS) > Assassin (DPS with Knife + curved sword offhand)
Shinobi (1h katana DPS + ranged shurikens) > Ninja (2h DPS + ranged shurikens + ninja magic)
Ashigaru (Great katana) > Samurai (DPS or tank depending on stance similar to WAR right now)
Tamer (1h Axe) > Beastmaster (1h Axe + taming of different pets ala WoWs hunter to use in battle for various buffs ala bard or SCH faeries) or Dragon Tamer (1h Axe + different types of dragons to accomplish tanking, dps, support, or healing)
Knight (Short lance + shield Tank) > Templar (Short lance + shield + auras)

These dont fit the class > job mechanic very well, and I wouldnt want people to get them for free just by leveling up other classes accidentally.
    Berserker (2h Great Hammer)
    Dark Knight (2h Scythe)
Machinist (1h Hammer) various things via magitek? could evolve into a Puppetmaster
Time Mage (staff + book?) Healer but doesnt heal in the traditional sense, can do a reverse time spell in various forms to revert damage done in the past few seconds. would be interesting as a concept for the game but probably not solid due to people possibly dying

Christ, look at this, halfway through a 10 hour maintenance and we're already back into full blown speculation mode.

The fact we're speculating instead of bitching about the game is a feat in itself.

Can't be thinking of jobs purely based on FFXI. Dark Knight for instance was originally not a Scythe class. Puppetmaster doesn't exist outside of 11. Ninja threw items at enemies in Final Fantasy Tactics.

You act as if single player = faceroll but small party = high strategy. The job quests in 1.0 required parties; what difference does that make? And how does either solution make completing quests the same thing as gaining exp over a long period of time?

I previously suggested something like a LV30 DRK ability that simply changes Rampart, Flash, Savage Blade, etc. to more DD-centric abilities. But based on the way they handled SCH, it looks like they could simply make the abilities themselves do different things as soon as you equip the job stone.

Furthermore, there's precedent for weapons that can be equipped by a job but not a class, so they could give greatsword to DRK but not GLA.

Of course, they already ended up making BRD into a job and SAM would almost certainly be a job and not a class.

Love me some speculations! If I remember correctly ACN was the obvious choice for first new class/job based on the first player poll. Wasn't the next most popular choice thf/nin type class/job? This is MY personal guess on what will happen. That musketeer guild will become what people are thinking, but instead of just getting corsair job off of it, we will also get thief from it as well. I don't think thiefs with guns is a far off idea. We already have bards with bows and arrows.

Additionally, I won't be surprised if when the first expansion drops in the next year, we see a new class that is a far east type class, ninja and samurai both as jobs based off of it. Reasoning there being that the class will use katanas, ninja will get dual wield, and samurai will get access to special sam only great katanas.

One last thing, doesn't pugilist have a lot of elemental stuff going on with it? I leveled mine to 11 in 1.0 so I don't really know crap about it. I can imagine pugilist having its second job be geomancer kind of... but that may be way too abstract heh.

Given that there are lots of dancers in Uldah already and "exotic dancers" and "city of gambling" go together like... well, strippers and Vegas, it's just too easy to make DNC a healer and give it to PGL.

I can already imagine Lhaminn with 50 different variants of "I can make the pain go away..."

Kill 10,000 lost lambs and spent at least 5 minutes with your mouse hovering over "The lost lamb misses you" text.

So much I can say regarding the latest posts. So let me say it.

    1) Yeah I know the classes/jobs don't need to be FF11 jobs. But it seems to be a natural progression for the most part. Also, Ninjas have been throwing stuff in every FF to date that I know off, not just FFT. They threw knives and swords too, not just shuriken.

For that matter, I'd be cool if they added more of the class abilities we DIDN'T see in the earlier FFs into 14. Like for instance the Samurai's Draw Out abilities. And the funky monk skills. And Medicine Man! Gotta have Medicine Man.

Actually fuck Medicine Man, I want me some MATHEMATICIANS.

    2) Regarding the prototype class list - Stavesman? WTF were they thinking? No wonder it got changed to Lancer.

    3) Shepherd job - only gathering class with a pet! Also at Level 50 you get your ultimate skill to talk to any bushes that might be burning in the vicinity.

    4) Now that I think about it DNC is a logical progression from PUG since in 11 they both used fist weapons and all. Also, Desert Vegas with Taru and catgirls and all that.

GLD feels much better than PLD until about 40. Cross-class abilities help a lot more than an extra 200 HP and Cover. Can't say how Shield Oath compares, I haven't done anything hard enough yet to test the difference. At 45 and above should be PLD all the way for AF.

I can't imagine they don't use it as a scythe class, simply because weapons are THE bottleneck to future jobs. Though I guess I can see them being great sword as well.

Pugilist can be PUP or DNC (essentially make DNC just like ARC/BRD) but Thief is NOT a h2h job and won't be in FF. I will be quite mad if so. Far more likely for THF to be Gladiator than Pug since THF's have used swords before, but generally are a knife using job in FF's.

Originally, the first dark knight was a sword and shield user. It's why I can see Gladiator branching into Dark Knight.

Also, with that "dancer Unlocked!" Image floating around, pretty sure pugilist will get Dancer.
