I'm a bit skeptical of tank classes becoming a not-tank job just because of the +enmity properties on a lot of their abilities. Though it's perfectly possible there's some way the 2nd job can adjust for that.

Also why I was gonna shoot myself down on the idea of say ARC > something with a bow + martial arts, since the latter would need to arbitrarily use DEX or you'd now have some arbitrary STR-focused abilities for your very DEX class skills.

FF3, 4, 5, 6 etc they threw weapons as well. I could see them using a Shuriken/Ring like they have in the past FFs. The rings (like Chakram) could return while Shurikens could be just like arrows, no actual ammo.

I can't really see how THF comes from GLD. IMHO it's a lot more likely they wait till the first major expansion (i.e the one they charge for) and have THF enter as a totally new class, with NIN being it's first job.

Shield oath is a flat double enmity gain on everything, if its the same as 1.0, so I'd imagine that helps terribly.

sooo, if mrd gets access to cc skills like blood for blood, raging strikes, invigorate (things wars don't normally get) how would it compare to a true dps class who has the same quality of gear at 50?

Compared to an actual DD job like DRG/PGL?

I can hardly give any numbers but assuming similar levels of gear quality they'd fall behind more than a bit. Their damage combo is less potent than other DDs and MRD has no innate damage increasing skills, while they may get to choose all of the cross class ones (raging, blood for blood, internal release) they're the non-trait enhanced versions.

Could you do it? Yea, but you'd have to do it with a group of FC/LS mates because if you DF as a MRD and tell people you're there to DPS there's gonna be problems.

Also classes can't use relic weapons, if you raise the standard of gear quality to that point.

It almost seems like MRD would be a better DD than WAR?

Given that classes seem to intentionally be useless in this game, I am skeptical. It almost feels like an oversight or exploit, if it actually works.

edit: Classes can't use relic but they can use Allagan, so...

I think you are also underestimating the dps provided by the wrath system. It far outweighs the damage penalty forced by defiance.

As a war (tank) I start every fight with 1 enmity combo then use dps combo the rest of the fight. Haven't lost hate yet and dmg is pretty good, but not "great".

You really shouldn't, Skull sunder and Butcher's block are more damage than Maim and Storm.

Storm combo should be used to get your damage buff and the slashing enfeeb, but unless they need to be refreshed Butcher combo is more damage.

You'd be much better off alternating them.

You are correct of course in they do more damage. I play it too safe most often (it's a Paladin thing?), utilizing the combo bonuses from storm's path/eye.

The combo bonuses last long enough that you can certainly alternate without missing out, Maim is 24s (at 50) while Storm's enfeeb is 15s.

Just an observation - at least on my server (Tonberry) the Japanese do not seem to think Marauders are tanks at all. I've been in about 7-8 parties with JP players, and each and every single one of them was GLD or PLD.

That's a pretty interesting observation. I wonder why they feel that way? Once War has access to storm's path and Inner Beast, it can absorb so much health through crits and damage that tanking becomes deliciously enjoyable.

Both those jobs are much more popular than Warrior, it seems. I don't think I've seen a single JP Warrior past like 40. I mean they must exist, but it seems like Paladins are far more numerous. Not gonna complain though, as this has made Ifrit duty finder (to get my weapon) fairly painless because then I can always main tank and there's always have someone who can stun Eruptions. And no weapon competition!

Good thing it hasn't dropped yet. )=

Edit: As Churchill has mentioned in the other threads, there is definitely a feeling of getting "blown up" much harder as Warrior against bosses that actually have some level of output. The 35-40s range group content has quite a few pulls and bosses that don't require much healing at all (or any at all) if you can sacrifice the DPS, but I feel like it's just not that significant anymore when you're taking hits from raid bosses.
