The second that i gotand i grinded everyone to max lvl + maxed every job. I just turned off encounters and breezed through the game. The last boss was very satisfying. Worth just finishing it up.Spoiler: show

Just gotta ask, how did you all go about beating that merchant for his asterisk.
Having tried twice, he murders me with his Take Over attack. The spell fencer that fights with him is no real threat, but can cheese me if the person that is hit with Take Over is his next target and finishes them off.
I use Monk(16/5), White Mage(16/5), Thief(15/1), Knight(14/3). (LVL/J-LVL)
I start off Defaulting everyone, and then Brave each on the next round and pound on the merchant. After that, he gains control with his Take Over abuse.
Take Over is a static amount of damage (1000?) from him, right? Sounds like you just need to level up. Go continue on the story a bit, then come back.
It's 300dmg for me, for everyone except my monk, this puts them in the range of needing 2 cures to keep from being killed by another Take Over. I'll come back later then.
Never go negative in brave points. General rule of all the boss fights.
Your stats go down if your job level is low, so that might be part of it. Your thief, I imagine, is doing next to nothing?
1per hit. I guess a job level of 10 would be enough? JP is hard to come by with those big TNLs.
Oh and I never go negative in brave points for boss fights.
Basically I do this:
Monk:Default → Brave
White Mage:Default → Brave (depending on how cautious I am, Default → Default → Brave)
Thief:Default → Brave
Knight:Default → Brave
And I repeat the process.
Side note: If my math is right, Thief attacks 16 times in one go.
Edit: Tried again at lvl21 and kicked hiss ass.
Well 27 hours later, this was a good investment. A nice introduction into the 3DS.
I'm torn between who I like more: Agnes or Edea. I thought Ringabell was going to ruin the experience, but he actually adds some decent comic relief. Tiz is the typical shy protagonist, but at least he's not shy enough to call a girl pretty(but I think Agnes looks better in her freelance outfit).

No no. I haven't beat the game yet lol, I'm still in chapter 2.

And a little thing about Agnes(note; just got to Chp 3)
Spoiler: show
I am torn between Performer, White Mage and Time mage.
Since getting the WHM asterisk, Agnes has been that job. I suppose I'll just alternate between WHM/TM being subjobs. And leave it to SE to give RDM the fuck you even in this game lol.
And I had Edea being Knight main, but that all changed when I got Pirate.
I think Ringabel is going to be a Thief forever. Godspeed Strike is addicting.
You'll find out what happens to the Earth Vestal in Chapter 4, but if you really want to know...

As far as your job choices, just do whatever you find fun as long as you still win. As you approach the end of the game, your chars will all have the same jobs mastered.
I was wondering what people used for their endgame parties. Spoilers CH5+.
Spoiler: show
Am I right or wrong?
Spoiler: show
And it looks my endgame party so far may consist of
Monk/undecided
White Mage/Performer
Thief/undecided
Swordmaster/Pirate
Right now leveling all the other classes I have up to this point to lvl9.
Around level 54.

I rather enjoyed the ninja sidequest.

Ah, it certainly seemed that way by the way everyone was talking haha.
It'll become clear and there will be no question on that journal's owner as you play.
So for those of you who have beaten the game, I haven't yet but...:
