I lean towards the Onion Shield because the higher block rate (nearly 40%) means it's more likely to proc on stuff I want it to, but in the grand scheme of things I doubt it will really make any difference beyond aesthetics.
At the tier where Holy/Allagan block 28% the Onion Shield would block 20%.

Also, where are you getting your block and parry rates from?

I do agree that Onion shield is more than slightly better than the other options available. Blocking Death Sentence more often is far safer even if the average mitigation is near identical.

Block rate is a base of 10% plus 1% for every 10 points of block rate on the shield, plus 1% for each DEX tier which are basically impossible to break in any reasonable set of gear. Same formula for block strength. I assume the parrying formula is the same idea minus the bonus from the shield (a base of 10% plus 1% for every DEX tier) plus some unknown (to me, at least) bonus from the Parrying stat on equipment, but parrying ultimately has no meaningful impact on shield efficacy. I only mentioned it because higher block rates will lower your parrying rate. It would be nice to know how the Parry stat interacts with parrying rate though.

Edit: I should say that though the above are the formulas I used, I don't entirely understand them because I only block for 27% with my Holy Shield+1 with 353 STR despite the formula suggesting I should have a base block strength of 28%.

    Current Gear

    Getting Valor Body next week
I was able to tank Ultima ealier but was hard, dunno if it' was my gear or Healer (they did suck) but i was getting hit for 900

    My questions

    1) With that gear should I be able to do T1-2 in coil?
    2) If Not will Valor body alone save me? (for T1-2)
    3) According to this gear i have atm, what should i aim next for CT (most don't have ACC so i'm kinda iffy) (also i dont have any Legs/feet exept AF if i get Light Legs or Feet)

    Thanks

Get your accuracy up first. Darklight legs or change the melds on the darksteel until you're at cap. Otherwise you should be fine for 1 and 2.

Shouldn't my acc be fine for t1-2? ( that is solo and without food I get over 460 in pt and food)

    Ok how is that then

Instead of getting Valor body i'll try to get Hoplite Body from Sirius

will give me 8 ACC and 3 VIT

Then Get the Valor Cuisses from Myths and Sabatons of Light from CT

    Will give me +24 ACC
    and +17 VIT

Should fix my problems for T1-2

Would be a good start, though getting darklight legs would probably be easier. Any reason you don't want to spend the philo on it? Also where are the tank drops going in your coil group?

Valor head, Armor of Light, Darklgiht Flanchard would be a good start.

Question on Coil T4 for on phase 2 of the fight. How do you MT Paladin's start your rotations grabbing the Knight and the Soldier, I have issue's keeping hate on the Solider, but no issue's on the Knight. All of our DPS is +1 Zenith, whatever.

Flash > Flash > Flash > Fast Blade soldier > Savage knight > Halone soldier > Circle of Scorn should be available by now if you burnt it at near the end of spiders > keep alternating Savage Blade and Rage of Halone. If you lose the Soldier part way through it shouldn't even really matter, the two BLMs can just bounce it until it dies.

You should start the RoH combo as the spiders are dying so you can do that as soon as they land to get one's attention. Then change to the other and hit it with your next skill and circle of scorn + spirits. The timing isn't always easy, but it really helps to have that rage ready at the outset.

Because I wasted money ( even though it was cheap) on the hq flanchard and they are bound so I'm lazy

    2) this is my alternate character so I don't have a coil group planning to pug it a little (lol)

I focus on the soldier since it moving can be a DPS loss. Flashx2, RoH combo on Soldier, Flash, CoS, Flash then alternate FB,SB,RoH just like Obsidian mentioned.

When it comes to picking up adds I never open with a prepped Halone, as the threat doesn't register for about 2 seconds after the button is pressed (Until the animation finishes). That's more than enough time for it to chase down a healer, taking it out of range of melee and even AoE threat range, and screwing your entire rotation when you have to chase it down, neglect other targets for pickup, etc. As others say, open with Flash/Circle to get some initial threat before you drop the Halone.

The Flash and Shield Lob spam you employ while chasing the mob down will amount to less combined threat than that single combo'd Halone, and the mob will hit your healer regardless. At least when you open with a buffed Halone there's a decent chance the mob won't move. There's no reason not to (other than the combo effect wearing off).

Essentially this, I time it so that I have a combo'd RoH ready (I hit the knight with the 1st one) and hit them both with Scorn, and start the next combo rotation on the knight and rotate moves back and forth between the 2...I started off not using flash just because it means more damage taken, and it just kind of stuck, and I don't really need it anyway, even with full ilvl80+ dps...if it was an issue, then yeah i would flash ONCE...but 3 times is unnecessary to keep hate on them both...that's just 3 GCD rounds that you aren't doing damage to the knight, instead of 1(where you hit the soldier for hate)...but that's just me.

This is false, I RoH the knight every time, it doesn't move, and my threat stays at the top for a while, you just have to be fast...
