Used consoles?

Was looking at picking up a ps3 (gtaV, FFX(-2) and Kingdom Hearts remixes, Dynasty warriors 8, etc. etc.), but have never purchased a used console before;

I was looking at craigslist initially, but the two best deals I could find were 150 bucks for a 250gb and 170 for a 160gb.

However, found one on amazon 500gb for $193 shipped with this description

Additionally, I know ps4 will not be backwards compatible, but I heard that future models of it will be. Is there any truth to this? If so, then it'd probably be best to hold out

Well, seems like I save less than 20 bucks after factoring in the cost of gtaV compared to the 500 GB + GTA bundle.

That being said, I'd be going with the new console, but the second question in the thread still needs an answer about future models of ps4 and backwards compatibility (to determine if I should wait)

I believe they said it wouldn't be backwards compatible (with PS3 at least), but there might be some sort of cloud service that will offer downloadable PS3 games. Currently, all PS3 models are backwards compatible with the PS1, older models play PS2 games, but there are also some PS2 games that are available for download.

there will never be a ps4 that has disc based backwards, it'll all be cloud streaming. that said you know there is also a new 500gb ps3 that comes with GTA V for $269.99 right?

Yeah unless your internet has super low latency you're not going to get much out of the gaikai-enabled 'backwards compatability' of future PS4 tech. It won't be a hardware revision either, pure software.

My utilities are on. We cleaned this place up (6 bedroom house); will be renting out 4 rooms. Mortgage and bills will be paying themselves with extra money on top of that

I use two now;

Learned my lesson w/ bowl No. 1; Can't go in the microwave or becomes unusable eventually. Burned a hole in it and could no longer do liquids. So bowl No. 2 is great for my standard shit. I use a tupperwear for things that go in the microwave, but also goes unwashed. So bowl No. 2 and Tupperwear No 1. make a great team!

If you're seriously thinking about purchasing a PlayStation 4 at all, you should wait on the PS3, and not because of your curiosity regarding backward compatibility—rather, because the PS3's price will likely drop after the PS4 comes out (for obvious reasons), whether in the retail sector or in the private second-hand market, and it may make you regret having recently bought a PS3.

It's up to you and how badly you want one, really.

Eventually, but probably would be a long time before that happened. After a price drop or two, or when the library of games really starts to open up. Definitely not considering getting within a year of launch

Then I'd suggest waiting until a little while after PS4 launch to purchase a PS3, unless you really want one right now. As mentioned, even if the price doesn't drop right away in the retail sector, it probably will in the used sector.

That, and I don't believe that anyone has mentioned this yet, but due to their incredible popularity, GTA games do not hold their value for very long at all.

However, if you believe the money spent will reward you with entertainment that will make you feel justified in your spending, you don't have to wait. It'll be cheaper a little down the line, but whether that's worth waiting for or not is up to you.
