In the market for a new tablet and need some advice.

Looking to pick up a tablet and am stuck between a few choices. Will be using for some school stuff, mainly viewing power points, studying etc. Have a PC so not looking to write papers or anything. Aside from that the normal web surfing, video viewing stuff. Decently fast would be a plus.

Not looking to get a Ipad and have been looking at some of the Samsung and nexus 10' tablets. The newest galaxy 10.2 looks like the hardware in it is pretty lackluster but looks like it would cover my needs. The Nexus 10 looks great but lack of SD card expansion and the fact that the new one could launch next month makes me hesitant to pick one up.

Anyone have either of these/ have other recommendations I could look into. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I would also check out the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity. The older TF700T model is about the same price on amazon as the nexus 10 and has good hardware. The newer model was just announced, so there may be price breaks on the older model in the near future.

To counter this, I would never buy any Asus Transformer tablets ever again. I bought the Asus Transformer Prime, it was a disaster (just google its problems). Returned it, and later bought the TF300T.

Again, performance issues all over. I'd suggest going over to xda-developers forum to look over the section. Asus Transformer tables are known to have horrible I/O performance. Be warned.

If I were to buy a 10 inch Android tablet today it would be the Nexus 10, but it may be due for an annual refresh soon...

Dunno if you decided, but a good deal on the Samsung Nexus 10 if you're looking:

No SD card slot which can be a negative like you mentioned, but the new Nexus 7 is fucking spectacular for the price.

Do you plan on rooting? If so, you can use card readers with the 7 via the USB port. Natively, they won't be detected by the majority of file managers out there—although this one supposedly can do it.

A little cable and a dongle won't be hard to slip into a carrying case.

Not sure about rooting yet but ran across the specs for the Galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition that Samsung just put out. Looks like they are putting decent hardware in it but going to wait a few weeks i think until reviewers get their hands on it. Here's a link to the xda page on it. Looks pretty beefy. Most likely in a few weeks the specs will be out on the new nexus and and the new asus so I think I'm going to postpone till then. Thanks for the responses folks.
