Mass pulls with jobs that have terrible AOE is a bad idea; it's faster to pull smaller groups and let the healer dps.
Whiny Lalafell vs Shitty Tanks 2:
I mean if they weren't so terrible it would be funny. Couldn't keep hate for shit, didn't dodge for shit, and on the first boss didn't seem to understand that ICE MAKES YOU SLIP AND SLIDE, and literally was just sliding back and forth until I told them to stop moving.
I mean I can forgive being a little shit, I can forgive being new but they didn't say anything and just ran gung-ho into every fight. Get to the 2nd boss and you can see from the chat log that I'm slowly losing my mind (and at this point I'm tanking). Kicked the tank, proceeded to kill boss without one. We only died because the boss managed to get us to 6 vuln stacks, tank got every single fire tether and proceeded to go full retard.
That wasn't even all, over the last few days the amount of tanks I've had that could actually keep hate has been very little. How does this happen?
Well if they were DRKs, the number of people bandwagoning onto the job just because of the name/image without knowing what it is they're supposed to be doing is too damn high.
If WAR or PLD, I really don't know how it happens. You'd think they'd have taken these jobs through 40+ levels of dungeon tanking already...
I had a tank yesterday in DF that was terrible, but it was Sastasha so he was probably just completely new. Problem was when I tried to give pointers they said absolutely nothing. Didn't use Shield Lob, just ran up to groups of mobs and tried to use Flash; problem was the ACN had already started attacking and all the mobs had run out of range. At one point he started DCing so we moved to the next group of trash. When he got back he was just standing around, turning side to side, apparently unable to use a map.
The ACN was pulling mobs and complaining he was getting attacked. The PLD used Flash once per group of mobs and couldn't hold hate worth a damn. Luckily I actually had decent gear for my noob LNC and the WHM was good so even when I ended up tanking we were fine. Also lolSastasha. Anyone could tank that dungeon.
Still not as bad as the PLD I had just after release in full Darklight tanking Darkhold that did 0 tanking the entire time. Got yelled at when I tried to give him pointers. I ended up tanking everything on SCH until we got to a point where we couldn't take it anymore. Kicked the tank and replaced, he came in again, kicked him again, shows up again and we abandon.
God I hate tanks.
I had a pretty bad tier PLD the other day going through a story-related dungeon... I mean, he wasn't the "I KNOW MY JOB KTHX" asshole type, just didn't... do his job well. I mean he seemed to understand somewhat the basics he was just really really slow at reacting and keeping hate on multiple enemies and didn't seem to understand mechanics even after being exposed to them. BLM was taking hate on like every pull within the first Flare, eventually he started marking mobs (in a level 50 dungeon mind you), literally 1, 2, 3 marked and such... I eventually just pulled with Bio... on SCH..
But I mean, we won in a decent time since having to cure the DPS didnt stop them from killing shit. And again, I don't think so much a purposefully bad tank, just didn't fully understand how to keep hate with AoE'ing. No excuse at level 50 I'd think but I'm willing to bet no one offered him useful advice because you have to gamble with them being the "LOL FUCK YOU I KNOW MY JOB" type or not, and frankly I didn't want to put up with a whiny entitled tankbaby so I didn't roll the dice and offer much (aside from reminding him to put up shield oath)
happy endings and such
Ok, there's "I don't bother upgrading gear every 5 lvls" and then... there's this motherfucker:
Btw the pants are the manderville skirt thingy. Srsly, by now we could actually fill a new thread with ppl who come into dungeons fuckin naked.
You pointed out a major flaw of PLD in dungeons without knowing it. I currently tend to run in group of mobs and flash instead of shield lob because when you're trying to use both the GCD is actually a killer and in the mean time your healer might grab the hate. Best example is A2 trash mobs who are going directly to one of the healer, you don't want to use shield lob to pull but flash instead.
It was sastasha, so it was probably a bot/rmt who didn't have any quests done before being sent on dungeon spam. Shield lob is locked behind a gla quest at 15, so that whole thing he described makes a lot more sense. You'll probably also notice that they dodge all lit-up aoe near perfectly (when they aren't dc-ing) but otherwise play like shit. They'll flash maybe once and spam riot blade combo until the pull is dead. Ran into a fair amount of these myself over the year+ I've been playing and it's frustrating.
^ This, a lot of DRKs have huge MP management issues, you can see it especially during the Lv30-50 transition (their learning curve) where they will be confused as to when/where/why turn off/on Darkside/grit and use Blood Weapon, I had a DRK like that yesterday in Brayfox, she was very nice & kept apologizing for her mistakes as she couldn't keep up with the whole MP/Enmity thing.
Lob -> Scorn -> Flash
If your healer needs to heal you in between the Lob and the Flash anyway tell them to chill the fuck out, you haven't taken any damage yet.
For fights like A2 if you're not on top of the mobs when they spawn then you just go to the healer first and pick them up there (a good healer will also be sure to come near you).
On any aoe pull I always facepull Flash. Lob slows my roll by a second comparatively.
It's one thing I like about DRK in A2 since I can range "flash" with Abyssal.
Mobs are too often not close enough to range pull with Abyssal tho.
After I got Plunge I just started doing Plunge (the center-most mob of the group) -> Unleash.
It's annoying when mobs start running to the point you Plunged from for a second before turning around -_- doesn't seem to happen with the mob you use Plunge on but the mobs linked to it do that sometimes.
Also I wish Plunge didn't put you inside the mob's hitbox, it's annoying having to back out after using it every time, SSD and Shoulder tackle don't have this problem.
this whole fucking game with tank range lol. please just extend it or do some other shit
Can't take a screenshot because party chat was a cluster fuck at that time, so would be hard to put together, but in resume, join a A2 PF that ask people to stay 4 runs minimum (yeah like people respect that)
So first run NP
2nd run NP --- > MNK leaves (NO WAY HE GOT HIS DROP)
SCH says to the PT that he has a healer friend and the SCH will change to SMN so his friend could come.
PLD bitch that MNK leaves and try to find his name, which then says 'ok i'll PF since we need someone'
We insist on the PLD that we have a healer
PLD puts PF up.
I ask the PLD to read party chat because we said we had a healer
PLD said fuck you then sends me this tell
22:29]Tygus Eros >> I already got my drop, if you guys want to be jerks you can find a new tank
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
NQ weapon + law armor. Wiped in Chrysalis because dps couldn't kill tear in time.
Well it's level 50 cap so I don't think having a better weapon would've made a difference.
Not having law weapon kinda points out they don't know priorities in the game, thus probably bad at their job. That's my 2 gil x:
