I think the fail here is you not realizing its Lv40 synced. In this case, he's just as geared as you are. Any gear over i40 will give the same stats due to sync..plus the loss of all materia bonuses.

Double-down fail: you not realizing they're wearing the lvl 13 lightning event body and what appears to be a legionary visor (no stats) and a PIE bracelet.

All gemstone jewelery is pretty clearly color-coded, the visor I recognize because I've NPCd plenty of them.

Maybe I'm just used to XI color codes because these just whoosh me completely.

Also, I never bothered to figure out what colors are what. A lot of them look the same to me.

STR red (Rubellite)
DEX purple (Spinel)
VIT orange (Amber)
INT black or white (Black Pearl / Zircon)
MND green or blue (Tourmaline / Turquoise)

Doesn't help identify Myth gear though since all of that is black. Though some Ul'dah GC rings are also black so it's an extra layer of confusion.

Low lvl green is PIE I believe, and I think blue for i70+ is maiming

I'm pretty sure It's the fang earring from Copperbell (the lv17 one, not HM). I distinctly remember it being that, but the color doesn't quite match so maybe memory fail.
