I've had a shit-ton of terrible tanks since ps4 launch, and try to help them but after halfway through the dungeon, if they haven't listened at all I cuss them out and try to vote kick them. It's pretty amazing how dumb they seem to be when i am face tanking EVERY mob on SMN.

To be fair, this is probably a lot of people's first foray into an MMO with it being on a console. The tank role is never really defined in most single player RPGs so I can definitely see a lot of people not knowing that they're supposed to keep other people from getting hit. There's a lot of assumptions you have to make too for why they may not know including people skipping through dialogue, cutscenes, people not going straight to their menus after gaining an ability to see what it does. You can't assume people are playing for the same reasons you are and it's probably a safe assumption that after these same people get to around 50, unless they make a lot of friends, they're probably not gonna stick around long so we kinda just have to deal with it.

Now I can understand getting upset at people not taking advice but I'm also curious as to how some people word their advice. I find that a lot of people don't really know how to give advice without being insulting. In your head you might be like "So fucking what?" and I know because I do it too but you can't really make a situation better by making it worse. So a lot of the time I'll just opt to keep quiet and then see what adjustments I can make to make it more tolerable for myself. If it gets to a point where I can't tolerate it then I just leave without saying anything to anyone or I'll vent to FC members. Part of it is also my fault because I don't know shit about tank jobs so I can't really offer good advice even if I wanted to.

Don't take this as me trying to make excuses for bad players but you gotta also think objectively as to why a player might be performing badly and/or the environment that it's being done in (which I know very few people are gonna do lol). Example being if you're in a Duty Finder/Roulette and you're expecting flawless play, you're crazy. Same applies to Party Finder but at least with party finder you have a bit more control of who you party with. At the end of the day, you're still willingly making the decision to use these tools to accomplish your personal goals so people should keep their expectations reasonably low unless you're playing with people you actually know.

I understand what you're saying, and my post was not so much directed in a "wtf l2play scrub l0rd" but more of a - "How did they get this far doing dungeons and no one ever offered to help them or at least throw some info at them?" I know I cannot be the first... People even in their anger will tell you they're doing something wrong and offer advice, even if they don't try to be polite about it like I did.

I guess to me the idea that your 1>2>3 combo NEVER ONCE came up was almost unbelievable. Someone had to have noticed in those 12 levels.

I suspect some of them are bots. I ran into a gla in halatali that wouldn't speak, only used riot combo, and never flashed. I complained, never acknowledged, yet this guy DODGED AOE LIKE A CHAMP. Immediate movement if he was in any aoe path, from any mob. We booted him since the healer died 3 times in 2 pulls.

Had one today that also used riot combo, but flashed. Didn't have shield lob even though I think he was over lv20. Would run up and flash, riot combo, flash, etc. Never did anything else. I repeatedly told him to flash a lot more, and he never tried. On the single tough mobs, I would pull hate from his little routine and he'd never get hate back, and I asked him to use savage combo. "Riot does better " was his response.... I'm lvling pugilist, so it's low lvl dungeon spam lol.

Thats exactly why things wont get better in XIV. If you give advices to someone who's willing to listen he will occasionaly get better and teach someone else to get on a higher level of skill.

Now if the person refuse to listen ok screw them, but AoE is totaly right in what he say, just leave and the PLD wont learn anything. The party might end, the PLD/GLA will re instant queue & do the same mistakes.

Then what? someone else will leave again? rinse & repeat? nothing will get better that way.

Personal fail: I farmed T1 a couple weeks back for maiming earrings, but was in a heated discussion when they actually dropped so I exited before they went to me. Fast forward to last night, I jump in T1 for some shots at it again. It drops and I find out I already have them. Guess I picked them up helping friends between the two events. Derp.

The reason I only use SMN for low level DFR bonus runs is these types of tanks who may or may not be bots, if they turn out to be incompetent and unresponsive I whip out Titan/Topaz and take care of business myself. Hell, though I've not tried it I imagine you could solo many of the dungeons up through a certain level.

You can, easily. As long as you're willing to spend the time, you can probably solo up to stone vigil. I know it's possible on SCH. Duoed Halitali the other day ARC + ACN in like 45 minutes as smooth as any DR.

The fact anyone even needs to bring it up is amazing all on it's own. The game literally makes buttons light up and flash at you when it's time to hit them, but people fuck that up. The first combo they get is level 4 ffs. They push one, the other lights up. How in the actual fuck do people fail so hard at something so simple?

Just got out of Tam-Tara via low level roulette, and the tank was one of those people. Flash spam until out of MP (even single target), and just fast blade. Endless fast blades the entire dungeon. I saw one shield lob (last boss, melee range), and one riot blade which was instantly followed by a savage blade (no combo).

Like... fuck, man. My daughter isn't even 2 yet, but if she sits on my lap while I play she'll reach out and poke the combo buttons on the screen because she saw them light up.

Tanked a story mode Titan with Titan Egi and tank dead for 75% of fight, was epic. Tank wanted us to explain "hate" to him, said no one ever explained it. We tried, very nicely, then after about 4 attempts I just put titan on sic and won. I really dont understand wtf, how you get so far into the game without understanding the basic mechanic of your class.

If he's never played an MMO and has been playing solo since PS4 release, it "makes sense." The game really doesn't ever tell you your job is to draw threat outside of one(?) GLA quest, where they just want you to draw ranged attackers and you can ignore that anyway. It's not like there isn't a contention of players who'll just drag a shit tank through dungeons that far anyway. Can't imagine how he got through Brayflox, though.
