    Status removal tips

My CNJ is hitting mid-20's and I'm thinking about status removals. I can't seem to get comfortable with the way the HUD displays party status icons. Actually I can't even find them! Where are they supposed to be and which filters should I be using?

I was fine in FFXI as WHM but need to get used to this darn new-fangled game.

    Thanks for tips!

Oh, and anyone have a visual guide to which status icon is which? Thanks!

The buffs/debuffs are located to the right of the members in your party list. I don't really use the chat-log to find the person who's debuffed, I just simply look at the party list. Buffs are shaped like an arrow pointing up; debuffs are pointing down. See "down" arrow = cast Leeches/Esuna.

You don't usually need to memorize which debuffs are which because they are all generally bad and on a "know by fight" basis.

    37 WHM here.

Coming from XI, I also tried to play the game off of the chat log and was having trouble as well. I found it's a lot better to play off of the party list, like Sodalitas mentioned. As far as the HUD, I used to have the party list in the upper left corner, and found that I liked it better in the middle left so I didn't have to move my eyes around as much. I also find it easier to notice when freecure procs.

In addition to pointing down, Debuffs will always be on the left in the line of buffs/debuffs. Whenever you see a red icon pop up on the left side of buffs, cast esuna.

Usually negative status are on the left of protect if you are looking at the party list.

Here is something I found while leveling up that will help I hope, Jade.

While you are sometimes able to look at your party list and see the detrimental effect listed there, be mindful that that list can only hold 5 effects/buffs. Meaning if your party members have food and multiple buffs that list will often times bump the detrimental effect off the "quick" viewing list in the party area. The only way to see it is to have them become your main target where all buffs/debuffs are listed in full.

Having played WHM in FFXI and now FFXIV, I think the debuff list is a great addition and makes playing a lot easier. I even get to pay attention to the fight in FFXIV rather than staring at the chat log to see if a debuff procs in FFXI.

I'm playing on the PS3 and muscle memory is setting in as I hit WHM41 last night. Sometimes I don't even notice that I targeted the tank and have to look around my screen to check. The suggestion to move the party list to the middle left is a great idea - thanks for that.

Thanks so much! It seems as though it's much easier than I had thought - like many XI WHM I am used to working from the chat log, which made boss fights more of an exercise in reading.

I'll go from the party list and Esuna anything pointing down and/or to the left of Protect. Once I get the hang of it, I'll review and improve.

This way, I might actually get to watch the action.

Does it actually bump the debuff off the list? I could swear it has priority and doesn't get bumped off at all by buffs. If it does get bumped off, it's def something SE needs to look into. Granted, I haven't come into an issue where a person can buff himself in a short span enough to bump off the debuff before I get to it.

With that said, also be mindful that this game's lag is still shit and it's possible to cast Esuna/Leeches too fast and then not dispel the debuff.

It definitely does. A tank with too many buffs won't show Disease on AK last boss.
