Maybe I'm being naive, but I feel like these two things would be pretty easy to get done if they passed a clean CR/upped debt limit then approached, granted they wouldn't have the big red button leverage but they're both reasonable and I'm pretty sure anything they present atm will just get a big middle finger from Dems because of the circumstances.

harry reid already made this offer to boehner the other morning. boehner said something along the lines of "giving the Dems everything they want before starting negotiations isn't a negotiation"

also apparently someone got their self immolation on, on the national mall today. so things are just going along swimmingly here. There's also no parking enforcement because DC Gov only exists to serve the federal gov so its the fucking wild west in my neighborhood for parking

That actually sounds completely reasonable given the parking situation in D.C.

Congress threatening to shutdown unless ACA is defunded/repealed immediately.

Wellllll Representatives Kind (WISCONSIN WHAT UP) and Dent already offered to bend today. Dem leadership is furious. Neither side wants to blink. I can see Dems bending on something small if it's a solid debt ceiling extension. Then repubs can be like WE GOT WHAT WE WANTED while really only getting trash but fooling their idiot constituents

That definition for full time is great, but it won't get employers giving employees more hours. They're already cutting people back to 30 just to save money.

Should just get rid of the distinction between full and part time employment. Full benefits for everyone, no more dicking people over to take advantage of loopholes.

Isn't the Hastert rule "majority of the majority", not "every single Republican"? Shouldn't he be able to invoke that if only 40-80 Republicans are really against bringing up a clean CR?

Also, what is the viability of either of the following two options:

    1) Moderate Republicans break away from Boehner and vote with Dems to bring the clean CR to the floor via discharge petition.

    2) Democrats make some sort of agreement with Boehner to give him enough support to remain Speaker through 2014 in case of a Tea Party revolt in exchange for taking care of the CR and debt ceiling.

Personally, I think there's too much acrimony and partisanship for either to actually happen. Hard right conservatives are quick to publicly vilify and primary anyone in their party who even signals a compromise approach. I don't think there's enough trust between Boehner and the Democrats to pull off #2.

I'm confused as to why the democrats should cede on anything.

The Obamacare debate was four years ago. Rather than negotiate there, repiblicans made up shit like death panels and didn't want anything. Now they want things? Fuck that noise.

    1) well Dems revealed a discharge petition earlier today but I doubt it gains any traction as it could be political suicide by any republicans that cross lines. Unless Francis Underwood is working behind the scenes i really doubt it goes anywhere.
    2) idk at all

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Stephen Colbert on his show married a couple who had their wedding cancelled because of the shutdown. Everything cool you thought you did for your wedding is not as cool as that.

They found one in a closet from earlier in the year, and it can be "ready" a few days before the debt ceiling.

Tyven, does this plan have a shot? Can the Rs hold solidarity for 2 weeks and keep 24 from voting on this?

A "bipartisan majority" resolution and endorsement of Obamacare would be glorious.

I really don't know, no one i ask wants to answer honestly or even speculate. it is just a ton of we'll see

my opinion is it doesnt have a shot because these 24 people know they would get primaried next year. when have we ever known a legislator to do what is right instead of looking after their own self interest? let alone 2 dozen republicans...

Lol, those plans are worse than the non-exchange market. Their PPO HSA plans are particularly pricey. Waiting to see how much the wife's company plans go up next week before we decide what to do once our current private plan gets cancelled at the end of the year.
