Isn't the mandate unenforceable though?
It is enforceable, that was what the whole SCOTUS thing was about a while back.
Sorry, let me be more specific. Isn't the penalty ("tax") unenforceable under the law? From my understanding, the worst they can do is withhold your tax refund from you if you fail to pay it, so for those who typically don't have refunds, there's no incentive to pay the penalty if the available plans are too expensive for you.
It's part of your taxes.. and Tax evasion is an enforceable crime.
Failure to pay the penalty for not being insured (and not being exempt from the mandate) is not covered under typical tax enforcement under the law.

While the IRS can add an Obamacare penalty to the balance of taxes due, the law does not give the agency power to go after taxpayers who fail to pay the penalties.

Goddamn GOP. Kinda wish Swampy was still around to see how he'd try to defend this.
lack of debt limit increase doesn't even imply default. massive austerity but not default.
It would severely damage the US's creditworthiness, even if they make interest payments first.
maybe he's confuzzled with what Obama and co. will be working on after this temporary austerity is over: the gutting of social security and medicare/medicade.
Oh wait...I get it.
Obama gonna gut medicaid after he passed the largest medicaid expansion since its inception.
Makes sense.
Wouldn't Obama be justified in using an Executive Order to make the House vote on the clean bill at this point?
Yeah, it's not like he has a bi-partisan debt committee set-up to do something stupid like that or anything. That's uncharacteristic of Obama anyways; the 100,000 deportations since passing of 'immigration reform' is an anomaly of some sort.
forgot to add this gem: "NSA Review Panel is exempted from furlough, decides to shut down anyway http://www.politico.com/story/2013/1...own-97891.html … #NoRush #TakeYourTime"
so i was just told by an "insider" that positions actually hardened over the weekend and that we prob shouldn't expect anything until about 2-3 days from the debt ceiling deadline. w
