So, I was a bit curious about the republican plan to fix Obamacare. I found it weird for a party who voted 41 times to repeal it to suddenly be interested in trying to fix it. But I thought, "Hey, if they're jonesing to fix it for political gain, and it actually fixes some issues, then why not?" And how were a majority of republicans actually going to get on board with a fix?

Well, the "fix" is in. It's another repeal disguised as a fix.

How the democrats aren't making political hay out of this... well, they're democrats, so...

I don't think you know what repeal means. They aren't making hay of it for the same reason they killed the public option: it's fucking toxic.

Toxic? The most popular aspects of the ACA, which Republicans want to rip out, are toxic?

    Like, really?

Obama ruling by decree that insurers now have to option to continue "sub-standard" plans (read: every plan on the individual market) through next year is some shady bullshit.

End around on continuing government contributions to congressional plans was one thing, but this is ridiculous.

So then what the fuck is the point. And even if they offer it, they still have the ability to raise prices 300% to cover all the people they can't deny now, right?

Dumb question, but why would any insurance company keep these policies when it was a damn good excuse to jack up prices? Sounds like this fix will do nothing.

Also, what happened to the cap (think it was 80% of the premium had to go to care or something)? It seems like some of these raises are rather arbitrary.

    1. You're crazy, they can just raise prices, period, to cover the costs of all the sick people now signing up for healthcare; and they can do so legally thanks to brobama. Right now we have too many sick people signing up and not enough healthy young people for obvious reasons.

    2. Go back to point one, there's a problem of not enough healthy people signing up and too many disease ridden people suddenly getting cheap (as opposed to not even paying for it) healthcare. These prices are justified, they're the prices repubs warned us of before. Democrats dropped the ball with this, between Obama and his lies, and now were screwed until apparently 2015 because so many important things are getting postponed.

Part of it might have been not wanting to seem like the bad guys. They wanted the money, but they didn't want the blame for raising the cost of policies.

    I am referring to this:

My question is was this delayed?

Well, ya I get that. But it's pretty easy to be like, "it's too late to change our system." And charge people anyway. I don't see Obama's change doing anything.

AFAIK no, not delayed. But with every other delay so long as more sick people then healthy signing up, the higher premiums will be while still meeting the 80/20 law.

I don't know why you americans needlessly complicated stuff by trying to control the private sector. If you just cut all the fluff and go straight for public health care you wouldn't have to deal with this public/private frankenstein policy.
