Oh gawd bg help me choose!

That time of year is around the corner!

Halloween!

So last year, I had my daughter go as princess leia, and I am pretty happy with the way it turned out:



This year, the plan is to make her Mary Poppins. BUT I AM TORN, I am torn. On which outfit to choose.

Initially I was planning on this one:

But then I saw this:

And thought maybe I should do that instead....

I have already bought yarn for the scarf, but it was on clearance so I don't mind just making a legit scarf out of it on the side.

The white outfit would be the most challenging...and the most fabric. And I don't know if it's as recognizable as the other two. But good god is that adorable.

The first two outfits would come with both the carpet bag and umbrella (I gotta figure that prop out no matter what I do...). Which would be a cute combo.

inb4 no one gives a shit. D: This is my all time favorite hobby (sewing) and has become expensive as hell So, it's basically become a hobby I can justify doing once a year. So ya I get a bit excited about it. :D

Pick one of the first two, those are far more recognizable to me as Mary Poppins than the white dress. Of course, I haven't seen the movie in 25 years.

Sounds like one or two then! I can do most of the stuff ahead of time while figuring out which one since the only real difference is the coat and scarf vs. no scarf

I think second poppins is more memorable and will be more fun to sew. The first image is really about the scarf and hat, I wouldn't really justify the effort of sewing the black top where you could probably buy something cheaper that is serviceable.

I agree with 1 or 2- 3 is too similar to Little Bo Peep etc, while 1 and 2 are more recognizably poppins. It looks to me like 1 and 2 aren't that different- 1 just has a sort of coat over the top. 1 also looks warmer. Not sure the sort of weather you're expecting, but around here trick-or-treating can get pretty damn cold. So I'd say 1. You GOTTA have the umbrella and carpetbag and scarf, though. Carpetbag could be her candy bucket.

Ya, I live in LA, last year it was a tad chilly but not too bad. Luckily, I don't think either one should bother her in regards to that.

I guess I am also leaning towards one. The umbrella is going to be the biggest challenge. I need to buy a legit one for the frame at least.

And then covering it with black fabric and painting the handle to look like a bird (won't be completely accurate, but fuck it I can't whittle, and I doubt that wood could handle it anyway).

At least that way I can take the fabric off, and she can use the umbrella afterwards....when it rains ten years from now...


And for sure, I am gonna make the bag! That's probably the easiest part.

I was gonna turn my hubby into Bert, too, but alas looking like he's gonna work that day anyway. ;_;

I have never seen Mary Poppins (don't shoot me), just chiming in to say Princess Leia is god tier (those hair buns rofl). She'll be cute and get candy no matter what she wears. <3
