    Preferred leveling method?

    Hey All,

I'm working on leveling my CNJ, and have been doing the main quest, sidequests, dungeons and guildhests, plus hunting logs.

I know a lot of folks use FATE parties to level, but after running them for a couple of evenings I'm getting kinda bored of them. Plus, to be honest a lot of the NA in the ones I've been doing play like total idiots - complete WoW noobs.

What's everyone's favorite way to level? Do FATEs get more enjoyable or are they all infested with knuckle-draggers? Getting into a dungeon party for a healer is really easy, I think maybe I'll just run a lot of them instead.

You really only have one viable way to level effectively via FATEs after quests, hunting log and the first time hest bonuses are worn out.

FATEs don't get any better either. You'll be spamming AOE on mobs you probably can't see to place. If you're keeping up with your quests though the only real grinding you should be doing though is to finish up a level to meet the requirements for the next story quest or towards the 40s where TNLs get steep.

I hate FATEs, but I understand their usefulness. I've only ever joined two FATE parties, the rest was all dungeon grinding and quests, but I had the luxury of only needing to level ACN since I'd done everything else in 1.0. If you're ever unsure how to do your job, or want to try out some new ability, you're better off running dungeons. That said, if you're using the Duty Finder, dungeon difficulty tends to ramp up starting with Qarn, so you may find running dungeons to be even more disheartening than FATEs if you're getting a lot of shitty tanks or something.

Oh, I'll also add that Battlecraft leves are almost completely worthless. The exp rewards are soooooo low.

Dungeons are actually quite efficient for exp assuming you have rested exp and your group doesn't wipe all the time. Since almost all the exp in dungeons comes from kills, not having rested exp really kills your leveling speed.

If FATEs didn't completely stomp every other leveling method, I would've gladly done a mixture of dungeon grinding and completing my hunting log. Unfortunately FATE grinding is superior. I only do low level dungeons for gear or helping out friends.

Storyline/Questhub/Hunting Log/Dungeon/redo old Dungeons for friends/Random mostly empty fate that I happen across.

pretty much in that order, i've joined 1 fate party and been solo in some crowded fates... shit's just not fun, I really don't care that its more efficient. I'd rather be going slow and having fun then bored out of my mind and hitting lvl50 in 3 days. This game is only a month old for me, I actually want to enjoy my progress in it.

Thanks. I think my main issue with FATEs is some of the other players. I got aggroed last night by a couple bystander mobs as a FATE was ending, and all the derp DPS ran right past me and left me to die.

Dungeons are OK - I have buddies from XI on the server and we made an LS and FC with some new players. We run dungeons together all the time. PUGs are more of a mix - the tank in one PUG didn't even know he had Flash, lol. Carby tanked most of that one.

FATEs are really much too good in terms of XP. But...they're not very fun after the hundredth time. Or even before then.

SE should look into buffing the XP of dungeons to make them more viable. Or just have other things to do besides FATEs.

Hunting log is the most fun way to level but it dries up way too quickly. I would love if that were expanded significantly.

Sadly, if you want real exp, you need to get aboard a fate train.

The thing about fates is that there are easy to many people... they would be fun and interesting if it was not a group of 400 people... that's the downfall. I do drum time to time do dungeons but usa fates are the way to go.

But also anyone who did beta and auto leveled their job has no say in this matter saying fate exp is to good.

A friend of mine got at me when I fate burned 42-45. This is my first job and I had to wait for my linkshell later that night to do stone vigil our what it's name was.he played 1.0 and beta taking advantage of tons of cheap exp and auto lvls. Arrow burns and so on.

Id luke dungeons to be almost as good tho. I love running them whenever I can for friends.

Is there a list of "good" levequests? Preferably the ones which require you to just kill X a number of times and perhaps kill X to collect X, or go to X to clear an area, kill anything that pops.

The beckon ones are really fucking horrible. I don't mind spamming the types I mentioned as they're somewhat less annoying.

Funny you say that, since they would be at/near the top of the list of "good" levequests. You can generally do these the fastest, completely ignore any monsters, and get the completion exp the fastest.

That said, battle leve exp sucks so bad, I haven't really seen anyone do much compiling of data for it.

I like doing the dungeons for the appropriate level mixed in with FATE - it keeps it more interesting. Of course, then you get to meet nice wonderful tanks who cast Flash four times while not in range of anything and then start hitting the mobs, which can be a nice laugh or an aneurysm depending on your mood.

Fucking awful, especially when then I have to heal every other person in the PT except for the tank.

My best EXP/hr for Battlecraft leves is spamming one of these at Saint Coinach's Find (Lv.45~50). The entire process from accepting the leve to turning it in takes about 40 seconds. Kinda' broken.

On the upside, when healing in one of those 'interesting' dungeon PUGs, I get to practise my kiting skills. I managed to kite the adds in Deepcroft long enough for Carby to kill the boss!

If it's Deepcroft you could tank them youself, but as it gets higher it gets more difficult and less efficient to tank an add or two. I've had this situation with a crap tank so the BLM starts sleeping adds, but then another member uses AoEs and wakes everything. I'm not sure what's worse.

I think we can all agree that XP gains in the game need to be tweaked somewhat. Dungeons giving more XP, leves giving more XP, different rewards or some mix of everything. Those are all steps in the right direction.

Yeah, love the hunting log. Would be good if we could get a daily hunting log with random selections (to prevent everyone from just gangbanging the "daily enemies")

I will probably be the only player out of all servers that will be killing mobs for xp as a preferred leveling method. I feel like Im missing out by relying on the FATE train, and I only do those if they are "in the way" so to speak.

Sucks to hear that. I'm always on the look out for non fate mobs that wanna be sneaky and gank others, and it almost always happens.
