I wonder what else could make gil prices go up tenfold other than you know, banning the characters holding the gil.
Banning bots and shouters is treating the symptom, not the disease.
If you want a specific example, the first one that comes to mind was weapons that dropped off mobs in Castle Zvahl that you could npc for ~7k each. Supplemented with the coffer for the area having a decent drop and the NMs in the area having okay drops, it was an unorthodox place to make some money that I figured out. But since RMT apparently also figured it out they nerfed the drops to sell for almost nothing. Of course, this wasn't simply just an isolated case.
Whoa whoa whoa, don't pull FFXI out of your ass. FFXIV legit farming methods only.
I thought the main source of gil creation was a series of exploits involving bomb ash? Are you implying that shard farmers are creating gil? The shard farmers sell the shards to players who are creating the gil. Which means the shard farmers are only acquiring gil (at the moment, at least) as fast as players can create it legitimately.
Same company, same shit. That was the point.
The source for this mystical exploit was some random person on Reddit if I remember correctly. However they were still buying the wet bomb ash off the AH in the first place. It wasn't an exploit at all. His main emphasis was that they were apparently using hax to buy/sell the items really fast, which he had nothing even remotely resembling evidence for.I thought the main source of gil creation was a series of exploits involving bomb ash? Unless you know of a way to buy wet bomb ash from an npc that I overlooked.
I'm speaking of how SE has been known to punish players who have done nothing wrong instead of dealing with actual problems (for example, pos hacking gatherers). You inquired for a specific example of the past knowledge and I gave you one. Do not think for a second that because this specific example wasn't a perfect analogy for what's going in in XIV that it's invalid. That was never what it was intended for: you are making a strawman of my point, which is why you think it's flawed.
There are several problems and you're complaining because SE dealt with one before the other? Are you assuming SE is going to continue to ignore the other just because they haven't gotten to it yet? It might be crazy but SE might have taken priority to removing the gil created by bomb ash exploits before it wrecked the economies (haha, wrecked already), before moving to target the bot farmers?
When you're sick, what's more important: attending to the symptoms or getting rid of the illness. They attacked the result instead of the cause while indiscriminately harming innocents, once again like they have been for years. It's not a baseless assumption when you back it up with the history of them doing it over and over and over again.
Maybe if I wasn't able to walk out of Gridania and see the same pos hackers that I reported weeks upon weeks ago you would have an argument, but until it actually happens I'll continue doubting them because I have a reason to do so.
lol, what innocence?
The big bad ash exploit was the cause and they fixed it. And they removed all/most of the illegitimate gil. Now all that's left to do is handle the pos hackers, who are not a huge source of gil like the ash exploit was. The proof of that is the gil prices are steadily increasing still. $10 before bans. $30 the day after the bans, then up to $33, now it's $40 (per million). If the POS hackers have been operating before, during, and after the bans, and gil prices are STILL increasing, then POS Hackers aren't creating tons of gil. No, they're slowly accumulating gil that was created legitimately by players through the AH and selling it on the black market. Is this a problem? Yes. Is it as huge as the ash exploit was? No. Was SE correct in targeting ash gil first? I think so.
Technically, this "big bad ash exploit" was a legitimate method of making money, and not an exploit. You're not buying the wet bomb ash from an npc and selling it back for more, it only drops from FATEs.
But hey, you're telling me I'm assuming things while you're assuming SE didn't harm any innocent players when they have a documented history of doing so. I've made my point, if you can't accept the facts then that's that. I see no further reason to try and convince you.
Better analogy would be what do you kill first, the main boss, or the little minions it keeps spawning?
You want to ignore the little minions since they dont do much, but once they accumulate they can be more devestating than the boss, or at minimum cause even more chaos.
I never learn my lesson in RPGs, I always go for the boss, but usually end up dying because my DPS is too low to kill it before the minions just make a mess of everything, but then I restart, go for the adds first, and win np.
Slow and steady.
Just like a fine woman/whiskey/steak.
Allegedly.
Okay, seriously done now <.<;
I forgot about that. Still not as bad as the ash though, as it's affected by the same bottleneck the shard sellers are. Potash and Shards are items created by the system. They're merely trading those items in exchange for gil created by players. They can only collect gil as fast as players can create it. They're not creating vast amounts of new gil, which is what hurts the economy the most. I doubt they'll allow it to continue, but I am not expecting anything for a few weeks.
I remember those days. That was a crazy holiday season. Epic inflation.
@Vuttion: Basically, yes. My complaints are more with RMT since that screws over honest players. I don't give a shit about anyone who sacced/exploited/sold a shit ton of potash and got slammed. Every single person I know who did things honestly are just fine, and that's literally all I care about in that regard.
You wanna live life on the fast-lane, always trying to stay 30 steps away from everyone else? Cool. Do it. Just know that the Gods of your little universe are watching you ride around in your fast cars with your loose women, and if they decide to shake things up, your ass could be in the crosshairs.
People seem to forget that they're playing SE's game, and SE really gives no fucks about one or two of them getting upset over this. When this results in massive departures and those departures are confirmed to be from this issue, then we'll talk.
And for everyone having such eagle-eye observation to denote the thread becoming a "pro" or "anti" SE sounding board: what the fuck did you think was going to happen? Its like you've never lived a day in the life of a goddamn human being on this planet.
I vote for SE sucks. I still remember when they banned 1/2 of my forty-two gardening mules.
If I were a gilseller I'd raise prices now too. While I don't like their approach of bans, they certainly got a decent chunk of gilbuyers in the bans.
Gilbuyers gonna gilbuy...raise the prices and make some dough :D
Also - ignoring all that - there's now less gil in existence, period...therefore it's more valuable.
